Most of these Foreign missions are not even there to protect the interests of Nigerians abroad, some adopt na-me-send-you-come attitude! ![]() 30 Likes 2 Shares |

International diplomacy is all about interest. Why should a country commit scarce resources (human and material) to running an embassy in a country which doesn't provide the requisite economic and social results? Pride? I'll rather my country cut unnecessary costs than keep up appearances. Apart from Singapore, Ukraine and the eastern European nations on d list, I see no social or economic reason for operating embassies in the other listed countries. So, I the government in this.

If after due diligence it was found they offer nothing to Nigeria, then I'm in full . Can't see why we need more than 6 or 7 embassies at this point in time. They can leave just one on each continent, nothing more.

It's the way our crooked politicians have been siphoning our resources for years! through bogus government parastatals that adds little or no value to the economy. It's only logical to start shedding the excess fat! Nigeria is broke! Its just irresponsible and irrational to be spending money we don't have senseless. Mr. President please move to the National Assembly and the house of representatives dem kuku no do anything there.

cktheluckyman: ...and you think the present situation is affecting the 95% alone? May be you are not spending the same currency am spending down west or you ain't buying fuel and Kerosene the same amount am buying it. If you like blow all the pipe line, u can continue to be cutting your nose to spite ya face. "Alfa to'ni iyan o mu, omo re naa o ni je tira" and " orun n ya'bo ni oro towa nile yi, kii'se oro enikan" In one sentence; " We either rise together or fall together" there's no other way to it. BTW, nice development about what was just reported above. 16 Likes 3 Shares |

Hmmm, That's why we should all (regardless of political affiliation) pray for Nigerians Economy, decisions like this lead to retrenchment of staff, when you close down a mission all the domestic staff will be laid off, also depending on how the govt handles the situation diplomatic staff from Nigeria might either be sent back home or redeployed, i hope they are redeployed sha. A section caught my attention: "While this is only one solution, the MFA should also carefully examined the consequences of overstaffing at headquarters as a result of the planned rationalization and make other recommendations to address the problem. This may include offering redundant officers redeployment to home ministries or early retirement from service without loss of benefit,” the government said. Damn, i hope it doesn't get to this, no one wants to be retired prematurely. So while the move is welcomed to some extent, as if you cannot financially maintain some missions and Nigeria enjoys no diplomat benefit, then they can be closed down, but systems should be put in place to redeploy all diplomatic staff in those missions to other missions. 2 Likes |

I see no reason why we're closing our mission in Ukraine and Brazil. We have many students in Ukraine, who worepresent their interests? I thought the government initially had plans on importing Brazilian grass, has that plan been jettisoned? Brazil is a south American power house, with an expanding economy, we could use their diplomacy in international issues. By the way, what happened to middle eastern and Arab countries like Oman, Iran, Iraq etc, what's their economic or diplomatic value to us? 16 Likes 1 Share |
