Please somebody correct me if I am wrong. We have seen many crowned obas in Yoruba land but none has been so much in the press like this one. Just want to know why he is different. Hope he is doing it right because traditional rulers the way I see them live a low key and quiet life devoid of all the fanfare of this new ooni.
Nairaland people are the ones pushing him out.

Wrong information. The Ooni visited the US Consul General, John Bray at his residence in Ikoyi Lagos. Not the other way round please.

One of the reasons is that he's young, and also newly ascended the throne. When Oba Sijuade was younger on the throne, he too made a lot of news in those days (maybe not as much as this though, but there's social media now and quick spread of news) but with age all the noise reduced.

Lets call a spade a spade.....

The Ooni of ife is not the a King. He was a priest. His full name is OONIRISHA. He was a priest and he paid tax to the allafin of oyo.

This is why the allafin of oyo will not accept him as his superior.

Guy, wake up..
The reign of Oyo as a traditional state is loooong gone.

Yoruba states all broke free of Oyo since the collapse of Oyo Ile. The only other thing that unites all of us now is our common language, common source of origin and its king, (Ile Ife and the Ooni).
Where did oranmiyan the first king of Oyo come from if Ooni is not a king?

Ooni'risa is a short form form Ooni Orisa - Ooni the Orisa.

Why? Because total number of Orisa is 201, Ooni is the 201st, the last & only Orisa that is in human form.

Ooni was never a priest, matter of priesthood was the job of Isoro.

Ife is divided into two - Otun & Osi (right & left)

The right is made up of the political class headed by Oduduwa (Ooni).

The left is made up of the priestly class headed by Obatala (Isooro).

The only reason Alaafin doesn't want to fall in line is because Oyo has its own version of Ife history which he and many Oyo stay basking in - ignorance.

Yes i understand your assertion but let us not forget histoty.

Oranmiyan was the last born of oduuwa. The eldest which was orangun of Ila. Afte oduduwa shared the land between his sons, oranmiyan was not around, infact he was at benin, when he left benin(in annoyance) after installing his son, he came back to his father for his own share of the land. But his father daid he hd shared all the lands between his brothers and told him that he will rule after him (as the oonirisha), this position shouod have naturally gone to Orangun of Ila but Orangun never contested the decision (we do not know why).

After this, oranmiyan departed to form his own kingdom (oyo ile). This kingdom grew in power and wealth, then his father died and he (Oranmiyan) should have gone home but didn't go. Instead a slave boy who was with the oonirisha(oduduwa) then became the ooni. This was why he was paying tax to the allafin(oranmiyan).

It was after the Brits came that yhey elevated the ooni to be over the allafin because they felt since it was the cradle/oringin of the yoruba race, the king should be the first.

Please note: oduduwa was the first ooni, he met people in yoruba land. Infact obatala(oba ti ala) was one of the minor kings then.

As regards paying tax to Alaafin.

Have you ever heard the saying 'omode gbon, agba gbon ni afi da ile ife'?

If yes or no, there's a history behind it.

When Oyo was at its peak of military exploits (can't the Alaafin who was on the throne at this time), it turned to Ife & demanded tax.

The people of Ife met and decided to send gifts including a heifer to the Alaafin but Ife people demanded that the babies from the cow be sent back to Ife periodically.

Oyo became trapped and dropped any form of taxations against Ife permanently.

Hence the saying, 'Omode gbon, agba gbon, l'afi da'le Ife'

In this case, Oyo was/is the Omode.

Thank me later for free history lessons. cheesy

Uncle, stop it.

1. Olowu's mother was the first child of Oduduwa not Orangun.

2. Oduduwa never shared lands. His sons met at ita ajero in Ife where they chose to head in groups north, west, south, east where they either found a town from scratch or ed an existing group to start a monarchy.

3. The first place Oranmiyan founded was Osile in Abeokuta, then Bini & Oyo.

4. After Oduduwa ed & with his sons moving out, Obatala's people decided to take back what was theirs & assumed the throne starting with Osangan Obamakin to Obalufon.

5. There was no slave boy anywhere in our history. After Oranmiyan came back, he met Obatala's people on the throne & consolidated themselves. He went to war & sent them packing - reason the Ilaje migrated to Ondo.

6. Oduduwa's children had taken most of their father's royal materials and after he ed the Idanre group stole Oduduwa's crown and left Ife. They have it till now and this is why Ooni goes to Oke Ora during where Oduduwa came from coronation to be given Oduduwa's own crown but the Idanre group had taken it so when the Ooni goes there a make shift crown of Oduduwa is made for him with iroko leaves and some othee materials by Olojudo.

7. The Obatala group had intensified their strong hold and they had the ade-are, Obamakin's crown to go with it. Oranmiyan came back, waged a war, sent Obalufon packing and took the ade-are which every Ooni wears once in a year because it does not belong to them - to wear it, they call th Obatala people to tend to it first in order to make it wearable.

8. All the founding houses in Ife today descended from Oranmiyan.

9. Oduduwa was the first Ooni but the aspect of priesthood was done by Obatala while Orunmila did the Ifa aspect.

10. The long & tedious process of installing an Ooni - eating, body marks, rubbing on the skin, marks on the head, drinking, initiation into different cults & periodic orisa possession makes the king Ooni Orisa. The last of the 201 deities.

Recorded by whom and told by whom?

Are you from Ife?

Did the teller of the history you believe in from Ife?

Do you want to know the history of Ife more than the people of Ife?

Disabuse your mind from falsities. There are a lot of verifiable proofs to back up Ife version of Ife history in Ife.

Yes sir. Lies and stupidity! The current Ooni knows that this path leads nowhere hence his visit to the Alaafin earlier this year for peace and progress. The Oyos, from their very beginning, have never seen the Ooni as a king. It won’t change in 2016 because someone somewhere made claims he has a different version of their history.
Let Ooni continue with his highly commendable progressive moves but arrogating any form of supremacy over Alaafin is an alien notion and won't start in 2016.

Looks like you have comprehension issues bros and you somehow managed to confuse that with wisdom. I never said Ooni's visit has anything to do with the issue of superiority. I see his visit as a departure from the cul-de-sac of superiority claims.
You made a stupid statement that the Alaafin and the Oyos are ignorant of history and now you are making stuffs up. Oyo history is clear that Oranmiyan is a direct offspring of Oduduwa. It is also clear in stating that the royalty belongs to Oranmiyan and that the Ooni is a priest not a royalty. This has been Oyo history for centuries. The arithmetic of the king of Ife being automatically superior because Oduduwa settled in and died in Ife is not a fact of history in Oyo Yoruba. Oyos have NEVER ever been subjects of any priest or Oba at Ife. It did not happen in the 15th or 18th century and it won't happen in 2016. That's where re-writing history from now till the end of time using today's mindset won't change anything. Let the Ooni concentrate on the development of his people and let the Alaafin do the same while they are still constitutionally recognized.
