She is conveying the US interests in the strength of our democracy, high level of corruption and the details of the FG's amnesty in the ND. The issue of religious freedom has also been mentioned in some quarters. It promises to be a series of gloves off meetings. No doubt, most of it will be closed door, but enough should seep through the cracks for us to be able to draw conclusions. There will be much to discuss. The US has been punishing Nigeria internationally since Yar Adua assumed office. Our relevance on the World stage and even in Africa has been severely downplayed. There have been several US studies that have painted a less than positive picture of the political and security climate in Nigeria. Several reports hint at the US wanting more concrete measures than an empty amnesty in the ND. This is because, the US is getting at least partly blamed for the crisis in some quarters. Indeed, one report says that 80% of Nigerian oil proceeds goes to just 1% of the population (land ownership ratios in apartheid South Africa were never that discriminatotory). The Boko Haram saga, the indiscrimate killing by the military and police, as well as the barbaric execution of the cults leader was another thing that horrified the US and the wider World. Clinton is going to discuss this under the guise of religious and other civil freedoms. There is also the ever present under-current of US alarm at the possibility of alqaeda infitrating Nigeria because of poverty, despondence and misuse of religion. Methinks Nigeria is going to get a lecture. How embarrassing! |

The tension, hype and festivity attached to her coming is immaterial, uncalled for and irrelevant.I was dissapointed with Obama's visit to Ghana, rather than posit the way forward. He kept on dilly-dallying and said what any political observer could have said.Nothing magical can emanate from Clinton's visit.

Imaging if you want to choose people for friendship, aptly you would select someone whose charater is semblance to your liken.this is exactly what transpered between US and Ghana.

@Patrickwood you mean when you want to befriend a country's crude oil? |
THEAMAKA(f): 9:28am On Aug 12, 2009 |
nex: hahahaha nice. i was thinking in the first place this probably has something to do with oil. she is probably going to stress nigeria to take action against the militants there so they will not continue to cut oil production, which is probably hurting the US. and you know nigeria will do it since they have become such dogs for foreign nations. |
