If this is what they need most in Lagos for now, no problem.

They don't need GOOD schools for ALL the children in the state, abi?
The UNTRAINED children will certainly vandalize the CORRUPTLY inflated street lights just as they did for the ones Fashola spent billions on before now and Ambode is spending on the SAME street lights SENSELESSLY yet again without dealing with the FUNDAMENTAL issue of education for all our children.

Some days ago, I was at a secondary school in Surulere (across the bridge from the Island) in Lagos for a friend's event where he is educating secondary students about the perils of peer pressure. I honestly wasn't expecting what I saw as the state of this secondary school.
It left me wondering if this was a school or a dump yard. Why in heaven's name are Nigerian leaders looking the other way while the young ones study in this sorry environment?

The attached pictures are what I saw. This is no secondary school. It's a hopeless shanty. I hope this gets to front page and attracts the necessary attention.

Good reporting.
We still need places to escape for the quiet and peace....no lights after sunset, wake up to cock crow, hear the birds sing their lovely tunes, no one is rushing.time, social s are close and intimate......

Leave the glimmers and insanity.to the city, dont turn everywhere into Lagos, we will.loose our sanity. lol.

Do you read to respond or to understand? the OP limit his expectation of 24/7 life to "every capital city in Nigeria". why are you in pain because he didn't mention your village?

Chat see lies sha. Are the lights solar powered? Is it not the discos that are connecting them after their debts have been settled by FG?

Lagos is the only state that still spends money enhancing Federal Government properties. That's a progressive mindset.

Shebi its us Nigerians that always judge a book by its cover before opening it to check its content.

Non-functional street lights have been a problem in Lagos and Nigeria. Imagine navigating dilapidated roads at night which are poorly lit? Its like embarking on a death mission. My heart is always in my mouth when driving at night in Lagos.

Kudos to the guy.

Bro the street lights are FULLY functional ... The ones on my axis on ikorodu road are regularly reattached (their cables). Because of the work of vandals who steal the light cables at night.
How long b4 govt gets tired of replacing them?

ALSO from mile 12 to Maryland I've noticed street lights being erected too .

i told him to follow fashola he refused.

instead he went to osun, saying arresa is a yoruba boy, he can't leave south west, no wonder they don't know anything that happens elsewhere just relying on newspaper reported nonsense.

osun can not pay, he has ported to ogun. next may be oyo state. but the know oyo uses 90% of allocation to pay. salaries, so No meaningful projects.

one thing i loved about lagos when i recently went there(first time) was the 24 hourness of live. We arrived at 2am but the traffic girdlock was huge with trailers in there thousands, vegetables and fruits from every part of the country also arriving, taxi men where up and awake ready to take any engers, factories were busy producing products, some streets while entering lagos was smelling so good as resturants were also busy cooking meals for the day. It was just so amazing seeing hustle and bustle even at 2am. But where i came from, everything close up after 10 or 11pm, it was very boring. The world have moved on since, every capital city in nigeria should be 24hour cities.

Which Part Of Lagos Did You Visit? ISLAND OR MAINLAND?

It's really tragic that a major bridge like Third Mainland - the longest in Africa - that should ALWAYS be well lit, has to wait for an incoming state governor to 'light it up'. It's just ludicrous.

Bros, light has always been on 3rdMB oo, maybe e no dey every inch and maybe d light no constant o, but light has always been there since #fashola time immemorial

Not all the street lights were fully functional and many didn't event have until the arrival of Gov. Ambode. You said the street lights are functional and the ones on your axis on ikorodu road is functional. Yes I know that as well because I too live on ikorodu road. Ikorodu road (Jibowu - Independence tunnel) has been lit since december 2013. But beyond Independence tunnel has been pitch dark. Even Obanikoro to Jibowu has been having problems recently.

And you talk like Ikorodu road is the only road in Lagos. Until Ambode came along, Lagos roads were only like 10% lit. Let me give you a few of those roads apart from Ikorodu road : Ogunnusi road, Cele bstop - Pako, Oke afa - iyana ejigbo, iyana ejigbo - ikotun, ikotun - egbeda, iyana isolo - oke afa, after mobil in agidingbi - omole junction, college road ogba e.t.c

I know the story behind the aggressive lighting up on Lagos roads (because my sister works with Lagos State Electricity Board). And I must commend Governor Ambode for his resolve to ensure that our roads are well lit.

You misunderstood me, I mean even the ones fasholas govt did were eventually abandoned due to the work of vandals and I have used the ones in my axis as an example of govt having to reattach cables since vandals cart away with them .

This isn't about fash or ambo ... Am trying to point out the need for communities to protect the infrastructure around them

In those days when I was young street light used to be white and very bright, but now adays especially in Nigeria street light are yellowish and very dull. U can hardly see properly with the street light

Although I have not been out of Nigerian but I do watch America movies and the street light I see in their movies are white and bright. The question is why are nigerian street light always yellowish and dull? Am asking because it does not bring out the real beauty of street light. One of my friends said is corruption, another one said it is because it is solar power street light. I am confuss.

Have they really lit up Cele because it seems like from Oshodi to Apapa is still dark. Also Lagos-Badagry too from that Orile area hasn't been lit. I commend the job the governor is doing but I think those roads are quite major to be neglected.

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has taken his ''Operation Light up Lagos'' project to the Third Mainland Bridge.

This Lagos initiative begins from the Ojodu Berger section of the bridge and covers the entire sections of the bridge.

According to a statement signed by Steve Ayorinde, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, the Third Mainland Bridge constitutes an important segment of the road network in the state, as such, the state Government cannot overlook its importance as it also serves as a connecting point to the high brow economic pot of the state.

He further explained that the effort is to fulfill the 24/7 economy promised by the State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode during his electioneering campaign period.

“The economy of Lagos has gone beyond the day driven transactions, as such, the night economy component should be fully developed.

“Every businessman wants to invest in a safe and secured environment. Once an investor is assured that the operating environment is safe and secured; the assurance of more investment is guaranteed,” Ayorinde said.

Other reason for this project, the statement said, is geared towards promoting further collaboration with the Federal Government, which is expected to go a long way to cement a good working relationship as well as boost the economy of the state and Nigeria.

Some other areas that have been lit up under this project include, Ikorodu to Lagos Island, Ikeja, Oshodi, Victoria Island and Ikoyi, Eko Bridge, among others.
