Introducing Emmanuel Ifeajuna, He is most popular for being the The first Black African Commonwealth gold medalist. He was the pride not just of Nigeria but of a whole continent. Ifeajuna, a military officer, had co-led a military coup in January 1966 in which, according to an official but disputed police report, he shot and killed Nigeria’s first prime minister. The Olympic Book was designed in honour of Emmanuel Ifeajuna, 1st African to win a Commonwealth Gold,he was executed in Enugu,1967. The next time Ifeajuna appeared before a crowd of thousands he was bare-chested and tied to a stake, facing execution before a seething mob The coup failed but Ifeajuna escaped to safety in Ghana, dressed as a woman and was driven to freedom by a famous poet. Twenty months later, he was back, fighting for the persecuted Igbo people of eastern Nigeria in a brutal civil war that broke out as a consequence of the coup. Ifeajuna and three fellow officers were accused by their own leader, General Emeka Ojukwu, of plotting against him and the breakaway Republic of Biafra. They denied charges of treason: they were trying to save lives and their country, they said, by negotiating an early ceasefire with the federal government and reuniting Nigeria. They failed, they died and, in the next two and a half years, so did more than a million Igbo SOURCE: http://www.lagoslately.com/meet-the-man-who-triggered-the-bullet-that-killed-tafawa-balewa/ 3 Likes 1 Share |

I cannot think of anyone more deserving of an execution than Ifeajuna. The actions of Banjo, Ifeajuna and co wrecked the Biafran effort. To think that the expeditionary force that was the key to winning that war, was handed over to these cretins who used it to start negotiating their skin-saving wishes beggars belief. 9 Likes 1 Share |

Idrismusty97: That is the saddest part of Ifeajuna's story: a brilliant man and a distinguished athlete, consumed by guile, rage and ambition. 11 Likes 1 Share |

OfoIgbo: The "expeditionary" thrust to Lagos via the SW was ab initio ill-conceived. If Ojukwu had stayed put in Biafra, It would have been difficult for Yorubas to enter the war. The war should have been kept simple. 25 Likes 1 Share |

Lordave:A traitor that could have save 3 million lives. Those lives could have multiplied to six million or more by now. Imagine six million more technocrats, Business men/women and of course future criminals all wasted because of a proud beast. 33 Likes 1 Share |

OfoIgbo: **grins** banjo and ifeajuna were saddled the one of the most important task in the Biafran army- taking lagos, but they got to ore and started negotiating with awolowo and gowon for "soft-landing" for themselves, endangering millions of Biafran lives. They were villains. Achuzie would have done a better job. 4 Likes |

If Banjo and ifeajuna had gone beyond Ore,lagos would have fallen! They had a back up stationed in Benin enroute kwara down to north! Kaduna nzeogwu was stationed btw enugu n makurdi! If it was Kaduna nzeogwu, lagos would have fallen!

Idrismusty97: it is the hate and dishonesty of the Nigerian side that killed those 3 million innocent souls. Everybody knows that on the battlefield, more ill-trained nigeria troops died, the bitchess only had power on non combatants. 6 Likes 2 Shares |

This shows you how bad Ojukwu was framing and killing his front men Kaduna and Ifejuna who were the people who understood frontiers of the war these men would have liberated Biafra , because he was afraid of their future . Away thats why he lost the war and Ibos still suffering because of one man they call a hero. Ibos please kill the dream of War because the war can never be won and war is now now more sophisticated than you think

Nigeria's history is always very interesting to read especially concerning the civil war and event before the civil war but sadly, they aren't taught in our schools because of the dust they will dig up. The people we have now are liars who tell stories to suit them. E.g. OBJ who wrote 3 volumes of his book and mentioned other people's infidelities but decided to have an amnesia about his affair with his son's wife. Whether Igbo, Yoruba or Hausa, we really need to read a lot about this country even if the particular book doesn't favour us. It will help in creating future leaders that know exactly what's wrong with the country.

Volksfuhrer: Which Yorubas entered the war? Would Obasanjo and Adekunle or other Yoruba of the Nigerian army have refused to fight if the expedition wasn't carried out? 4 Likes 1 Share |

Volksfuhrer: There were already Yorubas in the war even before the thrust towards Lagos. Yorubas were already involved in some of the ministries that were undermining the Biafean efforts even before the war. The thing is that Yorubas always try to justify their efforts in betraying their neighbours. They even justified their actions of 28th march 2015, by deplouing their media arm in labelling GEJ as clueless and an dumbo. It's all about GIVING A DOG A BAD NAME BEFORE HANGING IT 8 Likes 1 Share |

Biafran military must have been very strict on rules for Ifeajuna to have been executed for the mistakes of banjo. As bristish intelligence declassify more information about what went behind during the war ,Nigerians should realise that that delay by banjo was what cost biafran army victory . 2 Likes |

peleson: Really? So Nzeogwu would have accomplished in Ore what others failed to do. How come he failed to succeed at his post in Makurdi? The same coward that was sneaking up on defenseless people and assasinating them in their private relaxation in the bedroom will go to Ore and succeed against an Imperial race? 11 Likes |

peleson: I prefer Achuzie, Ivenso or Archibong. Nzeogwu was already a political soldier, and this job you must give so a total soldier's soldier, and leave the politicking to Ojukwu, Efiong and the service chiefs 1 Like |
