Lagos may seal off US embassy warehouse, 15 others

The warehouse of the United States Embassy in Lagos may be sealed off if it fails to comply with the state environmental law.

The state Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) on Monday served notice of abatement to the warehouse and other 15 companies located at Sapara Street, Ikeja Industrial Estate.

According to the Head of Department, Sanitary and Environmental Health of LASEPA, Mrs. Bolaji Giwa, the warehouse and some companies in the area had failed to observe the monthly sanitation exercise in the state.

“Every last Thursday of the month, the state government expects all the factories in the metropolis to participate in the industrial environmental exercise but most of the companies don’t comply, including the US embassy warehouse,” she said.

Giwa said the warehouse drainage was dirty while the environment lacked the aesthetics that the state government expected.

“The place is very dirty. It does not look as if it is owned by US embassy in Nigeria,” she said.

Though the security men at the warehouse refused to receive the abatement notice, LASEPA officials pasted it on the wall, with the instruction that the management should report at the agency’s office for dialogue.

Other companies that received abatement notice included SKG Pharmacy, Mouka Foam, ABB Power Lines Limited, Dura Pack Nigeria Limited, Woollen and Synthetic Textile Company, Vono Foam and May and Baker Nigeria Plc, all in the industrial estates.
