Lagos State government has threatened to shut down the popular Ladipo auto spare parts market if the crisis rocking the market is not resolved. The executive secretary of Mushin local government area, Mr. Babajide Bello who dangled the axe while speaking with journalists in Lagos said the government would have no option than to shut the market if the crisis rocking the auto spare parts market persists. Bello said he could not fold his hands and watch total breakdown of law and order in Mushin by the warring factions, saying he was aware of the lingering crisis in the market and was ready to arrest the situation so that it will not escalate. The local council boss said he has invited the two parties involved in the matter, the executives of the traders and Monday Lawrence, the leader of cemetery workers, for discussion. Bello pointed out that he was aware that the cemetery was contracted to Lawrence but did not know if the contract involved collection of tolls in the market on behalf of Mushin LGA. He said the warring factions were of Igbo extraction and could not understand why they could not resolve their areas of disagreement amicably without resorting to violence. The crisis is between the traders under the umbrella of Ladipo Central Executive Committee, LACEC, led by Comrade Kinsley Ogunor and cemetery workers led by Monday Lawrence has engrossed the market for more than one week. I just hope there can be another palliative to stop the crisis. So that this will not be seen as a vendetta or vengeance of the aftermath of the election(PDP only won in areas igbos are majority) A way of proving that lagos is a not a 'no mans land' as even people like Femi falana wrote epistle on recently. The last time it was shut sown, they had to pay 70m naira, and also its a place they make their livelihood.you don't cut the eyes off because it looks at women lustfully and get you aroused. 10 Likes 1 Share |

Both warring factions are of igbo exraction, they should settle the matter within themselves or else the LASG would close the market indefinately

The most annoying part is that the warring bodies won't be affected much if the market is closed. It will affect the guys who are not even involved in the madness most

Vanguard newspaper version - By Esther Onyegbula LAGOS—No fewer than five persons were injured as two groups of traders in Ladipo Market clashed over the just-concluded governorship election in Lagos State. It was gathered that a vice chairman of an automobile association allegedly led a group of armed hoodlums to harass traders and ers-by. The traders called on Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Kayode Aderanti, to come to their rescue as their lives were under threat for refusing to the candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. Mr. Christopher Nzeribe, a trader, said: “They have told us that they would make the market uncomfortable for those of us that did not the PDP governorship candidate in Lagos State. “We urged the state government to call the executives of the market to order, because majority of us who were traders in the market were only looking for our daily bread.” Another trader, who simply identified himself as Okafor, said: “Before the 2015 general elections, there was peace and harmony among the traders in the market. The executives of the market have been intimidating and harassing us for ing the candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, since after the election. We cannot trade and walk freely in the market any more. “Five traders are lying critically ill at a private hospital receiving treatment for the injury they sustained from the attacked unleashed on them by the hoodlums of the executives.” A woman that sells drinks, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said: “What I am witnessing as a trader in the market is becoming unbearable as all my assorted drinks were carted away by the hoodlums loyal to the central market executives.” WhenVanguardvisited the market, Policemen from Alakara Division and OP-MESA were on ground to prevent further breakdown of law and order. When the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Kenneth Nwsosu, was ed on the incident, he promised to call back. At press time, he had not called. 1 Like 3 Shares |

Demdem:Local governments can't install Baba olojas. To the best of my knowledge, it is a traditional thing. The local government still has to work with the unions or move in to cancel the unions and impose the laws made by then through a council of some sorts that will have a representative of the traders |

How can the Executive Secretary of a Local Government claim he was aware that the cemetery was contracted to Lawrence but did not know if the contract involved collection of tolls in the market on behalf of Mushin LGA? Mr. Babajide is not telling us the whole truth. 12 Likes 2 Shares |

I've been saying it and nobody is listening to me. Ladipo market and computer village is gonna be relocated. Alaba market is gonna be shut down completely using piracy as an excuse. Ladipo also is a residential area same as computer village. It's all gonna happen when ambode assumes office.
