The transition committee, set up by President Goodluck Jonathan, to facilitate smooth transition of power to the President-elect, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on May 29, started sitting on Monday.

THE PUNCH had reported exclusively last Wednesday that Vice President Namadi Sambo might head the committee.

Although no formal statement had so far been issued by the Federal Government on the composition of the committee, Sambo presided over the meeting, an indication that he is the head of the team.

At the end of the meeting, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Pius Anyim, fielded questions from State House correspondents.

He said the committee met to discuss its of reference and develop guidelines for the preparation of handover notes.

“We met to discuss the of reference and develop the guidelines for preparing the handover briefs and the committee adjourned to April 20 for its second meeting,” he said.

Explaining the committee’s mode of operation, Anyim said it would first collect briefs from all Ministries, Departments and Agencies after which the data would be collated.

He said once that was concluded, the Sambo-led committee would then proceed to interface with the transition committee put in place by the President-elect.

The SGF explained that the interface would afford them the opportunity to offer clarifications and answer questions that might be raised by the Buhari’s committee.

“Ours is to collect our own hand over briefs, prepare the briefs and prepare the President handover notes.

“The of reference of our own committee is to collate relevant information for the handover briefs from all the MDAs, prepare them and interface with the incoming istration’s transition committee,” he explained.

I just wish that tomorrow is May29.Can't wait for good work to start by the people's general.Though I wished Buhari won when he was the Godfather of himself cos I trust him but I don't trust the people that will work with him.

Yet I believe his government will be better and lay a good foundation for the kind of Nigeria we all wish for

Buhari was at the villa in connection to setting up a transition committee for handing over. At the meeting, Goodluck asked for the list of representatives of APC & the required remuneration. Buhari was surprised that Goodluck's list & corresponding cost was put at #3billion for a job estimated to last only 2months. Goodluck then asked why Buhari's list didn't show corresponding cost? Buhari answered that his team was made up of volunteers and their feeding would be by individuals/self even if they have to bring in leftover food from their homes. This is the beginning of purposeful leadership....

Lol...so GEJ finally set up a committee that actually does something. Wow! It took APC and GMB to make that happen. Those two are indeed good for everybody.

Ok---we expect them to prepare a handover document capturing the following:

1. Budgets per MDA for the last 8 years.
2. Amounts spent per MDA for the last 8 years.
3. Achievements ---with names and pictures of heads of such MDA. This achievement should include type of project, target population and amount spent.
4. Shortcoming: We know it is usually funds. They need to write the expected funding gaps.
5. Future outlook: All pending projects and status should include pictures etc as document.
6. Documents must be fully signed by heads of MDA.
7. Submissions must be double-spaced, 12 points, Times New Roman and should be accompanied with email address, phone numbers and residential address in case any clarification is sought in the future.
8. Any pending issues/cases with National Assembly should be disclosed in the submissions as well.
9. This is not a document that describes "Transformation Agenda". It is not a marketing document that is colourful and glossy. Just hit the points in prose and clear articulation.

Ministries such as Petroleum, Agriculture, Power, Works and Infrastructure, Education and Health should be very detailed in their submissions. In fact some of us expect nothing less than 500 pages per ministry.
