Presidential committee on defence visits Innoson

of the Presidential committee on the review of Nigerian defence policy yesterday visited Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing (IVM) Company, Nnewi, Anambra State to inspect facilities at the vehicle plant and see how the defence sector in the country could benefit from the company.

The visiting committee chaired by Major General A. Adewuyi had Professor Isaac Olawale Albert as the team leader. He told Daily Sun that the basic reason for the visit was for the committee to see the facilities available at the company and see the extent to which the defence policy could draw some lessons.

Prof Albert said the idea was for Nigeria to begin to look inwards for the procurement of some military hard and soft wares “ how we can procure our vehicles, how do we procure our armoured vehicles locally, how do we manufacture some of the things we need in the defence industry. That is what brought us to Nnewi.”

Professor Albert explained that what the presidential committee had seen at the factory site suggested to them that without doubt, IVM had the capacity to supply the Nigerian military with many of its requirements in of military vehicles.

“We saw at the factory, pick-up vans that can be used by the police, army, air force, navy, customs and immigration. We also saw buses that can be used to convey officers and men.

“So, I think it is a very useful visit and when we get back to Abuja we are going to write a report that will actually show the capacity of this company to assist the defence industry in Nigeria,” Prof Albert promised.

He said the review excercise covered all the security agencies, adding that what the committee had seen at Innoson would form a critical element of the new defence policy.

“Our observation is that Nigeria can produce her own armoured vehicles for carrying out operations. The Chief Executive Officer of Innoson Group, Chief (Dr.) Innocent Chukwuma would come to Abuja to address a larger gathering of the defence policy makers on his capability and ingenuity.

“This is what we need in this country if we must be self-sufficient in diverse areas. In addition to manufacturing for Nigeria and doing the country proud, Innoson generates employment, Prof Albert concluded.”

He described Chief Chukwuma as a national asset.

Earlier, Chief Chukwuma had told the presidential committee that he was already deg military vehicles that would be as rugged as others produced elsewhere, that the IVM had the capability to manufacture armoured vehicles if given the specification. He said the company only needed by government and Nigerians. He declared that there was no vehicle IVM could not design and produce for African environment.

Sincerely speaking, the Federal Govt is really ing our indigenous industries. It will be nice to see a Nigerian made Armoured Personnel Carrier. Kudos to the presidency !

INNOSON is a good way for the Federal government to outsource some of her defence equipment needs. INNOSON is indigeneously owned and a better way to protect designs the FG might want classified -customized equipments. The national war museum at Umuahia should be an eye opener for Nigeria - difficult to believe those beastly equipments were built under duress and in the most severe auster conditions.

What is that fighting vehicle built in China or Korea that cannot be replicated even in a more rugged method at Nnewi? It's time to look to the east and tap on the potentials!

To the topic.
1. All these abracadabra moves could have been made long before now, we have already lost 15,000 citizen and now he is trying to fix the mess he created.

2. GEJ has over the night adopted a "We MUST" approach to deceive Nigerian, We must fight corruption from the root so that there will be no avenue to steal, we must empower our youth, we must create jobs and the list is endless. Please why didn't he do this in 6 years?

3. GEJ has gone on Live TV to endorse stealing as OK, but corruption, we must fight. He even took a swipe at Buhari for jailing Jim Nwobodo for stealing so little an amount. GEJ is a comfirmed thief.

4. GEJ has in a democratic government taken some rude moves like using the military to stop a peaceful protest, removing SLS illegally, Shifting the election and playing the "I was not informed and i really dont want to be informed about it" card. How can an employee(NigerianArmy) make decisions affecting a company and the CEO is saying.
What this means is that tougher times are waiting for us, and this guy will silence anyone who does not want to comply.

5. Before GEJ, Naira was 168 against the dollar, Currently, it is at 220 naira to a dollar and his economic team are unable to even control it.
Is it not as clear as day that his team are inexperienced? Imagine doyin okupe, A Senior Special Assistant to the president on twitter ranting stuffs like "ojoro cancel ojoro" like a kid.
Yet he has continued to lie to Nigerians that We are the strongest economy in Africa, bribing international firms to keep rating us high on papers.

the years between 1975 to 1999, it would even take up to about 2 days sometimes to travel from Lagos to Nnewi where Innoson is located due to neglected roads.
In every country, technology starts to develop from one part and quickly spreads to all parts.

Before 1999, some leaders would even deny common basic infrastructure like roads to areas where Naija's high tech can spring from.

Committee on everything, the committee will take like 3 months to make findings, then it's submitted to the President after which he will be deliberating on it for ever before setting up another committee to write up the costs, another committee to look for the site it will be situated and another committee again to select who the contract will be allocated to.
