Kano

A member of Kano State House of Assembly, Alhaji Muktar Liman Rogo, an All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) member, died in Kano as a result of alleged severe burns he sustained two weeks ago from a running generator at the legislators' quarters in Kano. He died last Thursday.

According to a reliable source who spokes with THISDAY in Kano said Rogo, aged 43, was said to have caught fire in his residence at the legislators' quarters at Farawa village along Maiduguri road while trying to refill a running engine generator.

It was also learnt that the generator exploded in a ball of fire and trapped Rogo. This subsequently left him with severe burns in sensitive parts of his body and he was later itted at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital.

The late lawmaker, elected for the first time into the 40 member Kano House Assembly, is survived by two wives and 10 children, and has since been buried in his country home Rogo, a 120 kilometre away from Kano city.

The acting Governor of the state, Engineer Abdullahi Tijjani Muhammad Gwarzo, who led the state government delegation to the village during the funeral ceremony prayed for the repose of the soul of the late lawmaker.

Gwarzo, who described the late Lawmaker as an politician who died at the point his services were needed most by the entire people of Kano, also prayed unto Allah to grant the bereaved the fortitude to bear the loss,

While urging of the family to bear the loss as an act of God, the acting governor however sympathised with the House of Assembly to see Rogo's death as an act of Allah.

The Speaker of the state Assembly, Honourable AbdulAzeez Garba Gafasa, in tears, described his late colleague as a 'complete gentleman' that approached law-making process with 'ease and precision'

this was obviously an avoidable death

An act of God ? Now ain't that some shit. Government officials STEAL all the money that was budgeted to provide Nigeria with electricity, and when someone dies while trying to fight the darkness, it becomes an ACT OF GOD.

Could someone please explain how much of Nigeria's STOLEN electricity budget was allocated as God's share, and whether God subsequently decided to burn this man to death because His Almightiness was not happy with His share of the looted funds.

Finally, if Allah is so merciful and benevolent, why didn't this man die during a bout of exhilirating sex with Indian prostitutes like Abacha did, as opposed to the horrid and excruciating death by immolation that was inflicted ? Was the man burnt to death because he was a "Lawmaker" ?

I don't seem to get what you are saying here.

But the boldened part appears clear. How did you know he had a bout of exhilirating sex with Indian prostitues? Please fear God.

Oh all right then. Just for you I am at this moment cowering under the blankets of my bed, in anticipation of a punitive lightning bolt which will hopefully be far less painful than being burnt to death by God's petrol generator.

Jakumo,

You raised a good point. Many exploit the religion to help find succour in situations that are actually man inflicted. If all were done properly at least even if he will die on the said date, probably it will not be as a result of generator fire. It is quite worrying that a whole lot of situation would have been better handled proactively but due to the ineptitude leadership, social amenities have been found wanting and in no distace future when preventable calamities happen we tend to drop it at God's door step so that we can move away quickly, forgeting that if we had done our bit in the whole game plan we all will be better off.

Though I do have concern about the relevance of the Abacha story to this? You lost the objectivity of your post there.

@ife-eco-06, maybe you should read the paragraph in totality rather than a part of it.

Nothing much to say about this incident. Its a pity he is a Lawmaker!

@Jakumo, better hide well well!  grin grin If you need more Duvets, I will send to you!

Verdict: Accidental Death!

He was just a sttate law maker and had no means of influencing NEPA, he is innocent.

Nigerians have this tendency to toss common sense aside, for God this, God that. With all due respect to the dead, but God told him to refill a generator while it's running??

Maybe it's an "Act of God" after all. God is angry that instead of providing light for the suffering masses, government officials are stealing our money and spending it on generating sets. May God forgive him and let him find Aljannah.

I think we need to shut up about his. Nobody deserves this kind of death. Let's just be careful.
carmelily: 1:11pm On Sep 11, 2008
i don't really get why anybody would make light of such an unfortunate death. would it be laughable if the deceased were your father, brother, uncle or boyfriend? Granted, he made a costly mistake refilling a running gen. but it's not funny. neither is it "nemesis".
Pennywise(m): 1:47pm On Sep 11, 2008
What I find truly amazing in this drama is the way the acting Governor referred to this adult male with 2 wives and 10 children as "up and coming"! All these mallams self.
Pataki: 2:41pm On Sep 11, 2008

Which God are we talking of here? How can a Lawmaker be that stupid to go be filling his generator tank while the generator itself is still running.

Shows stupidity is no respecter of persons.

May his soul find peace.

not funny but amazing how someone could be that ignorant.

no disrespect to the lawmaker, but some people in this country deserve to die. angry

when u see children and pregnant women dying in our hospitals for some trivial reasons as doctors on strike, nurses on strike, theatre workers on strike, no oxygen in the hospital, no fuel in the ambulance, nepa took light during an operation and generator is bad etc, some people should be held responsible for that. the blood of those who died in this silly circumstances do not go unnoticed.

howabout unfortunate road trafick accidents due to bad roads. or plane crash due to poor air traffic control which is due to govt apathy. some people are responsible for that too.

should we forget the thousands and tens of thousands who have died from cholera and orther water borne diseases due to poor water and sanitation supply? who is responsible for that? tell me.

some people in nigeria deserve slow, painful, gruelling death angry
