I know this thread sounds funny, but I just had to create it to address a certain pattern I noticed among Nigerians during my last three travels to several countries in Europe from the United States.

You know when you have ed through security and are sitting at the departure gate waiting for boarding to begin. Yes, you know--when people are waiting in line to board the plane. You notice those with USA ports (the Blue port) typically hold their ports out for the world to see, sometimes by placing it on the top of other documents they have or just holding the Blue port by itself and making it noticeable.

To the contrary, those with Nigerian ports (the Green port) typically remove their ports from public view, sometimes by placing it at the bottom of the pile of documents that they have or leaving it in their purses or pockets. They tend to expose their port insofar as it is needed to be inspected--in just enough time to show the airline employee, and the port is removed from public view immediately it is no longer needed. This same thing happens at the check-in counter.

This practice is also common at Murtala Muhammed Airport.

While this does not apply to every Nigerian traveler, I know it applies to many of you, whether you would it to it or not. I see you people all the time. Which of the traveler are you?

Its a pity....I'm guilty as charged embarassed embarassed

...but heck who would love to be stigmatised and called a drug dealer or scam artist. The image the green port portrays is nothing to be proud of.

@op, have you ever been harassed and intimidated after presenting your Nigerian port at check in's and customs even after every other engers from different countries have been cleared?? ..If you have, then the answers are not too far from you.

Just based on my memory, I don't think I have been treated differently for using my Nigerian port. But I do instances it appears I was being looked at extra hard by other patrons for carrying my Nigerian port.

LOL@ Thread.

I do neither. It's my port. I don't flaunt it, neither do I hide it. I don't go around clutching my documents, I keep them in a holdall or briefcase, and only ensure I have it ready for presentation when required.
Would do the same if I was using a port of another country. Na port na, no be Lexus embarassed

Indifferent.

But it appears those airport/immigration officers see Nigerian port with special interest//attraction. Was in Amsterdam early May en route Edinburgh, when one Dutch officer, on sighting my port, retorted: "people that carry this port normally transit in early flights, your people have ed, how come you're just going with afternoon connection" (words to that effect), meaning he took special interest in Nigerian port.

Of-course I flaunt it. It's my country & I'm proud of it. I'm always ready for both the immigration & custom, both here & there........ I have nothing to worry about and if any of them have a problem with me or my green port, well, tough!

Proudly Nigeria! I know we will get there one day.

9ja port or no 9ja port, I find that I am treated according to the colour of my skin.
undecided
That said, I have to it I have been traveling relatively problem free ... One of the tricks I use is to blow all the high level grammar I sabi in the most polished accent possible when asked questions. .... grin

and this made FP? sad : sad @OP just cos you shamefully hide your Nigerian port doesn't mean others do same. i openly display my port whenever the need arises whether consciously or unconsciously. i've never been harrassed or intimidated cos of my Nigerian port and i've sworn that whenever am under such circumstance in any country whatsoever i would create an uncontrollable dangerous scene.

Ileke this is serious matter o. An experience with customs whilst traveling on your Nigerian port is the best teacher. Just travel to Ekiti with your Nigerian port and tell me your experience the minute you land JFK.

I have this feeling they have stored the color of our port in their heads, when you are walking up to them with your green port, the way they squeeze their faces will make you wanno turn back, but fly with your foreign port and watch them start shining their 21 teeth from 5 miles away

I have never been treated badly or differently because of my Nigerian port.
Maybe it depends on the country you're travelling to and of course when you're trying so hard to hide something(port or any other thing) you'll definitely look suspicious.
