The spare parts shops, which are located in Maza Maza, Mile 2 area of the state, were shut by the enforcement unit of the Lagos State Motor Vehicle istration Agency, in conjunction with officials of the state’s task force. A statement on Sunday by the agency said the MVAA had earlier closed the spare parts shops, adding that their owners broke the seal and resumed their trade. Spare parts dealers are supposed to pay an annual registration fee of N50,000 while auto dealers are to pay an annual registration fee of N100,000. The statement said, “It has been observed that many spare parts and auto dealers have been defaulting in the payment of the annual registrationfees, while a series of sensitisation andtalks to get many of them pay the annual fees had been unsuccessful. “When the MVAA officials got to the shops to re-effect the closure of the shops, they were attacked by some spare parts dealers. “Task force officials came to the rescueof MVAA personnel as they arrested eight people for breaking government’s seal and assaulting its officials. “Other attackers fled on sighting task force officials. The shops were later sealed off.” The Chairman of the task force, Superintendent of Police Bayo Sulaiman, said the arrested dealers would be arraigned at the state Special Offences Court. Have the policies makers ever given it a second thought that with the banning of okada, the motorcycle spare parts dealers may not be making enough to up for the registration fee?

I agree that business owners should be paying tax. I do pay. But- Asking spare parts dealers to pay 50k annualy is not a balanced action. Some shops are worth 5 million naira while some are worth 100k or less. If Fashola must go ahead, they need to evaluate shops, check employees, check incomes, and many more factors that will aid them in making rational decisions on how to deal with this people. Clo shops is not the way, unless their plan is to chase more people away from Lagos... 25 Likes |

Create Job for the populace, no way. and that somebody could save up to N200k to start a business, and for govt to demand upto N50k for registration is absolutely wrong. what services do the traders get from the government to warrant such payment, what happens to the PAYE system of taxation? very exploitative indeed! ![]() 17 Likes |

This is clear call for them to start relocating to their respective areas, when a place is no longer favorable to you, then you have to make a move, this is too long overdue. Many banned buisness like Okada riding will bring down the sales which will also affect the compliance of the tax payments. But the state authority made that law that will effect changes in their state which no one has any right to question. Let the affected people relocate to another favorable places and stop disobeying the laws of a state. As an Igboman i people going nearer home and help in the development of the places instead of being where you will be seen law breakers. Every body will not be at Lagos. 4 Likes |

Nigeria here we come. At the core of fashola's motive is all but Tribalism. God will save Nigeria. I know for sure that very soon, Fashola may have to come to the East to fix his cars. When one door closes, another opens. No one can change what God has ordained. Business ingenuity is in the blood. 8 Likes |

Govt of Lagos state is targeting Igbo business men with a lot of punitive taxes, levies and looting their shop forgetting that what goes around comes around, this can only result to increase in spare parts prices with the effect that ordinary Lagosians will still be the once to pay for it. The truth is that no one will run Igbos out of Lagos because we have virtually bought it over and imposing levies and taxes will do no one any good. 4 Likes |

How do you expect someone with 500k goods in his shop to pay u 50k? That's too harsh. Fashola got it wrong here. No amount of intimidation can make Igbos poor, instead it will ginger them at the envy of other tribes. Loose Igbos in Lagos and forget Lagos. 7 Likes |

Let me make it clear now dat Fashola does not own Lagos, if he is claiming indigene then he should go to the bush his parents conceived and raised him. Yes dat tiny corner, where his father lived, is the only place he can claim indigene. Lagos State was a colonial creation and Federal resourced using Nigeria wealth. Fashola should claim Indigene in is fathers house, no other place. Capish! 2 Likes |
