LASTMA, KAI Operations In Lagos Are Classic Models - US Security Expert Dec 19, 2012 - The classic approach of traffic control and environmental management in the city of Lagos with over 18 million people has been recommended as a basic model for emerging mega cities in the world. This assertion was made by the Homeland Security Coordinator, State of Maryland, United States of America, James Russell Sharpe while speaking at the presentation of Field report by Batch 6 participants of the Career Evaluation Training programme for Law enforcement officers of the Lagos State Government. James Russel Sharpe disclosed that from the experience displayed by LASTMA and KAI participants at the training programme, the officers are great sets of dedicated and motivated personnel who exhibited strong will to do the job. He remarked that the scenario based module of the training which exposed the officers to field operations in Mile 12, Ojota, Apongbon and Obalende areas of the state also, provided the trainees with solutions to challenges encountered on the field which he described as excellent. James Russell Sharpe who is leading a team of experts to develop standards and training schedule for the training of Law enforcement officers of the Lagos State Government added that with the continued training of the personnel, traffic control and management as well as security and environmental status of the state will be a reference point and good case-study for other states to emulate. The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transport Education, Dr. Mariam Masha while speaking with newsmen said there has been a marked improvement in the discharge of duties of these law enforcement officers. Dr. Masha added that government intends to achieve improved service delivery by continuously improving the quality of personnel in its enforcement agencies and maintaining a professional status by instituting training programmes that are practical, effective and consistent with international best practices. She said, "The one-month training programme has been a worthwhile experience for the officers themselves for their personal development and relationship and once you are disciplined, then it becomes easier to work with the people, adding that the core outlines of the training programme is to empower the participants on how best to do their job and relate with the public through advocacy. "Through the concept of community relations visits and field projects, service delivery, empathy and team work has really been on the increase and the reception in the various communities such as orphanage homes, hospitals and major parks has been overwhelming and cordial as well as result-oriented,"Dr. Masha added. Two group leaders in the Batch, Usman Adeshina Tajudeen and Salami Shakirat Omolara commended the state government for exposing them to the training programme, saying the team building and emotional intelligence aspects of the training have really prepared them for more constructive engagement with the publics. They both tly assured that with the exposure to these modern-day approaches of engagement, people of the state should be ready for a new LASTMA and KAI when they get back to their offices. A total of 1,200 LASTMA and KAI personnel have been trained under the Career Evaluation Training programme for Law enforcement officers of the State Government aimed at improving their service delivery, with special importance on advocacy and not the use of force in the discharge of their duties. http://www.tundefashola.com/archives/news/2012/12/19/20121219N11.html 4 Likes |

The effort LASG is putting into ensuring a more professional law enforcement system is highly commendable.. I hope the officers will apply what they're learning while discharging their duties... |

Yea right. It would have been interesting if the "consultant" collected LASG's easy money and yet said otherwise. He had to say something to make his benefactors happy. 7 Likes |

I give credits to Lastma officials for sanitizing the transport system in Lagos. Motorists both commercial and private now drive with their seatbelts fastened. But, KAI dey fall my hand. They haven't lived up expectation, some traders are still hawking in the traffic without any form of arresting them especially our ibo brothers. Above all, they are models. Thanks Fashola! The strategist leader of our time. |

Ogun transport management agency is inefficient. They need to emulate their Lagos counterpart for efficient delivery and service. They should visit Idi-iroko road, Otta road, Atan, Ijoko road, Akute and many roads where there is always traffic and perform their duties not only Abeokuta.
