Wonder shall never end, I still wonder on what is in the new today, that is  Ribadu dragged to court over N668m houses. Can it be true?

Culled from Nigerian Tribune

A Federal High Court in Abuja has been asked to compel the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mike Okiro, to probe the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged acquisition of a $3.9 million (about N468 million) villa in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and another house in Mambilla Street in Abuja valued at N200 million.

The order of mandamus being sought is to establish how Ribadu got the money, as a public officer, to acquire the alleged properties.
The court is also asked to issue another order compelling Ribadu to publicly render the audited s of EFCC since it was established in 2002 and make it available to the National Assembly.

The suit was filed by two legal practitioners, Ogboli Charles and Ugochukwu Osuagwu. In the originating summons lodged at the registry of the Federal High Court, Abuja, the lawyers ed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) as respondents.

They said they were forced to come to court following the failure by the office of the IGP to act on the petition they wrote and directed to the IGP to probe allegations of corruption against Ribadu.

According to them, they made available the allegation of corruption to the outgoing EFCC boss and that up till now, he neither denied nor affirmed the allegation.

In their writ before the court, they formulated three fundamental and constitutional issues for the court to determine:

•Whether the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is under a statutory duty to keep proper s, its receipts, payments, assets and liabilities;

•Whether EFCC is under a statutory duty to submit its s for auditing;

•Whether EFCC has since 2002 complied with the requirements of section 35 and 36 of the EFCC Act 2002 which require it to audit its and submit same not later than 30th September each year to the National Assembly.

In the event the above questions are resolved in the affirmative, they wanted the court to grant them the following reliefs:

•An order compelling EFCC and Mallam Nuhu Ribadu to render its audited s from 2002 to 2007 publicly and submit same to the National Assembly;

•An order directing Mallam Ribadu to state how, while a public officer, he came about the sum of $3,948,479.00k which he allegedly used in purchasing a villa at Palm Beach Estate, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, sometime in 2004;

•An order directing Mallam Ribadu to state how, while a public officer, he realised the sum of N200 million with which he allegedly used to buy the official residence of a former Inspector General of Police at Mambilla Street, Maitama in Abuja;

•An order compelling the Inspector-General of Police to conduct an investigation into the allegation of corruption preferred against Ribadu with a view to arresting and/or prosecuting him where the allegation discloses a prima facie case of corruption.

In a 15-paragraph affidavit accompanying the writ, the two lawyers said that they are citizens of Nigeria, taxpayers and ed voters with civil obligation to in the fight to eradicate corruption in the country.

They said their status conferred enough locus on them to file the case in court.

They explained that they had earlier written a letter dated December 24, 2007 addressed to Ribadu asking him to render the of his office spanning five and a half years; a request which they claimed was not complied with.

They said even though they also wrote the IGP to investigate Ribadu over how he amassed the wealth to acquire properties in and outside Nigeria, nothing was done, hence the lawsuit.

The matter is yet to be assigned to any of the judges for hearing. But the case is likely to get an accelerated hearing; the plaintiffs having approached the court through an originating summons.

Please what is the penalty for wasting the time of court

You think someone looted Nigeria's money to buy choice properties, you go to court without providing evidence to your case. Rather you go their praying that the IGP should investigate a rumour.

If you want to petition the IGP why not do that? why waste the time of the court?

If this people do not substantiate their case they should be fined some good money.

They have nothing to substatiate their foolishness that is why they went their empty handed and they will come back empty handed. These people are being sponsored to gain headlines that no serious minded people will take seriously.

Simply did not want to respond to his post cos he is asking me to think for him

Why will any person who has evidence take the pains to institute a court case, the easy bit which is to present the evidence you have you dont do it. You now rather ask the court to compel another institution to initiate a probe when you already have evidence.

Top officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), including its Chairman, Nuhu Ribadu, are more corrupt than those the commission is prosecuting for graft.

Emmanuel Nwude, one of those the EFCC successfully prosecuted, stated this on Tuesday while addressing journalists in Lagos.

Nwude, who was convicted after a plea bargaining in a celebrated Advance Fee Fraud (419) case handled by the Commission, asked Nigerians not to trust the agency because it is being run by corrupt people.

He based his allegations on the way the agency handled his case.

Nwude accused top echelons of the agency of pillaging his property while he was in prison and sold others to themselves in the name of raising money to meet the condition of the plea bargain.

"These people are highly corrupt. They are more than corrupt; because you say you are fighting corruption; you say I stole money, but the money you said you have recovered, you are using it to take care of yourself. All of them are billionaires. They have houses abroad and in choice areas of big cities and are riding exotic cars," he said.

For instance, he said most of the cars seized from him are currently in the possession of EFCC officials, including a bullet-proof jeep, while generators, household items and cash, were severally stolen and shared among the officials.

These items include $1.5 million, jewellery worth millions of naira belonging to his wife, generators, etc confiscated from his houses that were forcefully broken into by the EFCC officials, he said.

Nwude challenged the commission to name who it sold his 300 million shares in Union Bank, which made him the biggest shareholder of the bank.

But in its reaction, the commission asked Nwude to go to court and prove his case, instead of whipping up sentiments.

A source at the agency told Daily Independent on Tuesday that EFCC would not issues with Nwude on the matter.

"If he feels cheated or otherwise, he has every right to go to court and seek redress," he said.

The case will be dismiss with no prejudice. This people have no merit to this ridiculous story,

“Hearsay”, legal rules say it can’t be used as evidence. It’s inissible.

This is why I hate Nigerian press.

The judge will throw this inissible case out of court in the preliminary hearing because there is not enough evidence against RIBADU

There is improvement in the works of Nigerian newspapers and out-of every ten lies one may be true. I think will you should just ask for serious evidence against this people to determine the efficacy of their allegation.
I think Nigerian press are educating us everyday with their story anyway.
A newspaper report this Morning that EFcc said Ribadu has no house in Abuja, Dubai.

As far as I am concern this is what RIBADU reffered to 'corruption fighting back when you fight corruption,

@ darmy$

You are not alone in people not trusting RIBADU from day one. you and people like you though are in the minority. and frankly speaking I wouldn't be suprised if some of your relation are the corruption RIBADU is chasing day and Night.

I WILL SAY IT TIME AND TIME AGAIN HOWSOEVER IMPERFECT RIBADU MAYBE, HIS EFCC LED IS THE ONLY ORGANISATION TODATE THAT AT LEAST FRIGHTEN EXECUTHIEVES APART FROM IMPRISONING CORRUPT BIG WIG POLITICIAN. IT IS AN ETERNAL RECORD IN THIS COUNTRY.

People like NWUDE has no iota of moral authority, a thief complaining that they have not sold off his stolen goods to people he wanted. Infact that should be part of his sentence to keep his bloody thief mouth shut or he will spend more time in prison. He duped other people from another country who are hoping to invest well over $250M in Nigeria and has the audacity to take paid advert and complain about EFCC arresting him and made to pay up.

IF RIBADU has skeleton in his cupoard, even ordinary small fry thief will have expose him by now. All these with some out of date lawyers bringing proceedings just show the utter ridicule of thieves and their collaborator, they don't have shame, and if you also have 'due process' nonesense AGF, even lawyers like that will be advertising for corrupt politicians to come back from exile so that they can defend them for a cut of Stolen Nigerian monies that could have been invested in our decaying infrastrutures.

May all the people who have stolen nigerian monies continue to have sleepless Night

must u involve her relations in this, please limit your contributions to issues.
trust is a personal thing, a function of your instincts.
the basis for her lack of trust in ribadu has not been unfounded. Ribad has not been transparent in his activities as EFCC boss, but non the less he has done certain things that make us yearn for the annihilation of corruption. it doesnt mean he did exceedingly well.

that explains y obj,bode george, toni anenih, sam egwu,ibb, gbenga daniel, el-rufai and co are afraid of him and his Efcc.
uhmn! what an analogy

true, but there is no honour amongst thieves. don't pre-empt investigations. let ribadu be proven not-guilty.
unti then, my fingers are crossed.

this remains your opinion, while it might be partially true, it doesnt justify ribadu`s inactions (assuming he stole like alledged)

vigasimple:

May all the people who have stolen nigerian monies continue to have sleepless Night
amen but please stand up for the truth especially when it matters most.

while I don't want to comment on this issue,because as typical of nigeria, there is more to it than we presently know.
only time will tell wether ribadu is a saint like we think or some monsters are bent on retarding our little anti-debauchry progress.

cheers kiss
