Odutodaiwa: In the developed world Sambo would have been forced to resign for saying Muslims should vote for PDP because it is more Islamic than the APC, which he claimed is a Christian party because he was speaking to northerners. When speaks to southerners he says APC is an Islamic party. Talk about creating dangerous divisions. |

oneeast: The Nigerian army seems to have ed GEJ's campaign media team. The problem with this government is that they keep telling us what they plan to do or are doing but rarely ever tell us about successful outcomes and endings. It is like celebrating after a job interview before hearing whether you got the job. I am not interested in these kinds of news. All I want to know is that, in 6 weeks as promised by the military, Boko has been heavily defeated and dislodged from the territories currently under their control. |

espn: The Nigeria military is the only one in the world that announces the start date and plans for an offensive to the media, instead of taking the enemy by surprise. Crazy. Boko Haram will be planning and waiting for them. 1 Like |

Nigerians will not be deterred by the postponement. They will not be tired. The desire for change is even more tangible now because people have been angered by the collaboration between the PDP and the military to ensure the elections were postponed. The bottom line is this: Who is the Commander-in-Chief (C-i-C) of the security services and if the C-i-C said the elections should hold on the 14th of Feb will any of the military chiefs say they are not ready for that date? Of course not. Therefore, it is clear that Jonathan instructed the military to back postponement. This is the reason why the military are unable to fight Boko Haram, i.e. they have become politicised. But Nigerians will not be deterred and will march 2 Gr-8-ness With Gen. Buhari. Our revolution will not be through the barrel of a gun but through the ballot box. |

iyke909: These slips are not as bad as GEJ's, and here are a few of them: 1) Stealing is not corruption 2) We will create unemployment 3) “Some Nigerians still want the President of this country to be a lion or a tiger; somebody that has that kind of strength and force and agility to make things happen the way they think. Some others will want the President to operate like an army general, like my Chief of Army Staff commanding his troops. Incidentally, I’m not a lion; I’m also not a general. Somebody will want the President to operate like the Kings of Syria, Babylon, Egypt and King Pharaoh – all powerful people that you read about in the Bible. They want the President to operate that way, the characters of the Goliath; unfortunately, I’m not one of those 4) Boko Haram has infiltrated my government (but he could say who they were or arrest them) 5) GEJ's response when asked why he hasn't visited Chibok. What a contradiction, on the audio the guys are busy calling themselves 'Excellency', 'Honorable' etc whilst acting acting illegally and committing a serious crime. There is nothing honorable or excellent about them. They belong in jail, all of them except the whistle blower. Buhari has promised to implement a whistle blowers act. I can't wait |

jpaul5: What Bakare said is not news, I read about it in the papers four years ago. The propaganda is the attempt to unearth old news and insinuate that Osinbajo will do the same. It is a scare tactic. 39 Likes |

More PDP Propaganda. Osinbajo, a man of impeccable integrity, like Bakere, will never sign such a letter. PDP are just trying to scare people into voting for them but it is too late. There is a total lack of confidence in this Jonathan government and no amount of propaganda or campaigning can change this.

Nigeria's election body raised concerns that the country may not be ready for elections planned for Feb. 14 Over the past five years, an insurgency led by the Islamist Boko Haram group has driven 1.6 million Nigerians from their homes in the country’s northeast. So it comes as a bit of a surprise that Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is only now starting to voice concern about how those citizens will vote in presidential elections, slated for Feb. 14. Incumbent Goodluck Jonathan is facing a strong challenge from former general Muhammadu Buhari. On Feb. 4, just 10 days before the start of polling, INEC commissioner Amina Zachary told Reuters that the elections may have to be delayed over fears that not enough ed voters would actually be able to cast ballots. At issue is the requirement that citizens vote where they are ed — difficult enough when Boko Haram threatens to launch squads of suicide bombers across the region in the run-up to the election; impossible when your hometown is under militant occupation, as 20 out of 27 local governorships are in the three northeastern states of Borno, Adamawa and Yobe. The commission is also worried about the slow rollout of its anti-fraud system. Each voter must have a Permanent Voter Card (PVC) in order to cast a ballot. The cards are digitally embedded with the voter’s fingerprint and can be read by a small battery-powered scanner. If the voter’s fingerprint doesn’t match the information on the card, he or she won’t be issued a ballot. This is designed to prevent accusations of ballot-box stuffing that have marred past elections. But the problem is that not all voters have their cards yet. Only 44 million out of 68.8 million ed voters have received their cards, according to INEC, many of them in areas plagued by insurgency. In theory, would-be voters can pick up their cards at government offices, but not if fighting shuts those offices down. INEC has extended the deadline for picking up voter cards to Feb. 8, but if the number of cards distributed by then is too low, the commission may decide to postpone the vote. “Let’s see how the PVC distribution goes,” Zachary told Reuters. “Then maybe.” It’s not just INEC that is concerned. In January, President Jonathan’s national security adviser Sambo Dasuki also suggested that the vote be delayed, for the same reason. And on Feb. 3, about 100 protesters stormed INEC headquarters, brandishing placards demanding a delay. “INEC, do the right thing,” they chanted. “We demand for the extension of election to allow Nigerian exercise their franchise.” Never one to up a good conspiracy story, Nigeria’s Times newspaper posited that the protesters, and Dasuki, may have been put up by Jonathan ers who feel that their candidate might benefit from a longer campaign season. An Afrobarometer opinion poll released on Jan. 27 indicates that the election is too close to call, a sharp change in fortunes for Jonathan, who was considered a clear front runner as recently as early January, when campaigning started in earnest. But if Boko Haram continues with its campaign of deadly bombings — a female suicide blew herself up in the northeastern state of Gombe on Feb. 2 — a delay in elections might actually harm Jonathan’s chances. Jonathan’s record on fighting Boko Haram is weak, and Buhari has made security the cornerstone of his campaign. In the end, delaying the elections could end up benefitting Boko Haram the most. More debate on who should be the next President means less attention on what should be done about militancy. Source: http://time.com/3695602/delay-nigeria-elections/ |

CrazyScientist: Yes, Buhari is a two-star General. There are four grades of the General rank in the army: 1) One-Star General aka Brigadier General 2) Two-Star General aka Major General 3) Three-Star General aka Lieutenant General 4) Four-Star General - This is a full General and the highest General Rank 2 Likes |

Just heard on Arise News that INEC has announced the elections may be postponed. I think this means the elections will be delayed.

Youngzedd: Of course not. What about the unfulfilled promise below, among many others: “Without security, there is no government. So it is not debatable, it is something we have to addressed and we are working towards that with vigour. But if I’m voted into power within the next four years, the issue of power will become a thing of the past. Four years is enough for anyone in power to make significant improvement and if I can’t improve on power within this period, it then means I cannot do anything even if I am there for the next four years.” President Goodluck Jonathan, 31st January 2011. Why is GEJ running for president when he himself said he can't do anything in the next four years if he hasn't resolved the power issue by 2015. Going by his own words, Nigerians should sack him on Feb 14. |

GMB MEANS BUSINESS. I was opportune to listen to Gen. Muhammadu Buhari this morning at State House, Marina, Lagos state. It was a business section tagged ‘GMB MEANS BUSINESS.’ Apologies. I didn’t attend as a paparazzi, hence the lack of photographs and a selfie with the man himself. Also, this is not the place to drop names. The small venue was filled to capacity as expected, and I was certain the audience was expectant. Posted below are my personal views of General Muhammadu Buhari, the man whom I heard, for the very first time at close quarters. The man Buhari whom I heard spoke today is a man that has a mission. I could almost feel a pain in his voice when he spoke of the issues that have plighted the talented country, Nigeria for decades. You could almost say, he felt sorry for the country. There was a conviction in his voice and demeanour. His body language was expressive of a man focused on one thing, to put Nigeria on the global ladder of respect. You could feel it. When he read out the prepared speech, which was monotone a-times, he informed his audience when he had completed the speech. He gently went into the pocket of his flowing ‘babariga’ to produce his prepared hand written note and went on to give a scintillating delivery of his plans for the country – which I would’t bother you with. At that point, he was better poised and at his best. He was natural, at ease. No airs about him. I didn’t know he was also rich in humour. He is a very witty man. I see him represent Nigeria internationally with pride. You know what, he commanded the audience. He had us all engaged. He gave briefs on how Nigeria fought the civil war and didn’t have to borrow a kobo. He mentioned how, when he was in charge, refineries were built. He gave a veiled warning to ‘briefcase contractors’ who mill around Abuja. ” If you know your capacity is N100m, don’t go bidding for a N1 billion contract” he jokingly announced. Joke, I think not. He also had a warning for civil servants. ‘Anyone engaged in corruption is on his own and will only have himself to blame’ he said, without joking this time. If truth be written, I was extremely impressed listening to him live. He engaged an audience of business men and women, and that alone speaks volume. About seven questions were asked (limited due to lack of time as he was expected today in Adamawa for a campaign rally), and he confidently stood to answer all to the best of his abilities. He charmed us with his humble charisma. He got an ovation at the end of his speech. Finally, in answering a question on continuity of governance, should he become the next elected President, he went on to give an analogy of someone standing on cliff edge. He pointed out that, if the man on the cliff edge chose to continue, what awaits him would be a long painful fall. Hence, he would not continue on that path. He however pointed out that continuity on good projects is good, while he would not be a part of a continuation of bad projects. BUHARI LIVE – How Impressed was I ? Very!
