i sympathise with you. but let me say i have been stopped by police checkpoints in fact just 3 weeks ago i had to give the officer 200 naira after he stopped me. no words spoken, as soon as he approached me I smiled and put the 200 in his hands and he greeted me and i drove off

I when SARS officers took me to their Hilux van and handcuffed me around March this year in Bayelsa. For over two hours I was with these guys. I was labeled a cultist because I was putting on Black on black that day. Honestly it wasn't funny at all that day. I have Never been so scared like that in my entire life, because all the sad stories I have seen and heard about SARS brutality online started going through my mind. And they were about 6 in Numbers with guns. I had to call my Uncle who is an ASP to talk to them on the phone but they refused. Luckily for me, my uncle was around that day( they thought I was lying about my uncle being an ASP). He had to drive down to the place I was with an Hilux vehicle and fortunately the SARS guy leading that patrol team was his Junior in Benin back then. He had to quickly apologize and the handcuff was removed from my hand. At this time it was already getting dark. They later laughed and gist over old memories. If not for my uncle ehhhn, those SARS guys were saying I will bring 150k before they release me or I will be transferred to the state CID for being a cultist.

yeah thats funny. let me say i am a home body though. i dont go out unless i absolutely have to. having said that in the last 3 weeks i most have done 2000 miles up and down the lekki epe expressway and no encounters

This is the type of general extortion we have grown accustomed to, from customs to immigration etc. Pay to avoid due process, pay to cut corners. But SARS is just on another level.

We need widespread reforms across board.

yeah man i hear you but let me tell you something ? either way you gone pay something. The way nigerians drive like idiots if they live in a civilised country they will pay at least 500 dollars in tickets everyday. always trying to overtake dangerously and overspeeding and offensive driving, cutting people off etc. if all you have to pay is SARS every once in a while i say you are getting off very lightly. the average nigerian needs to be extorted by police because they drive like idiots. these are just my own personal opinions of course
