It's okay (though I prefer simple designs) and it looks like it won't be fake (tired of made in Aba) because of the standard of the factory good, really good.

Kusheer:If they ban import of foreign goods , the demand for the local ones will increase and that might cause the prices of the local ones to Skyrocket which will cause hardship for the consumers, that's the same thing that happened with Rice......instead the government should create ways for the production of such goods to grow both in quantity and quality and the demand for the foreign goods will runs..... it's a technique america uses. |

This is really good. If only Nigeria government has sense to make the investment climate friendly. They could be exporting this. But sense is too far from Buhari.

nextstep: Bear in Mind that the GDP per capita of the countries you listed here are miles ahead of Nigeria's. Our purchasing power is very low. How much is our minimum wage to start with? |

booscy: I understand what you're saying, but it's a distraction. A serious country will take the right steps, no matter what. Since these Western countries have done this from the start (1800s), you can infer GDP does not matter.. every Western country along the GDP curve has given incentives to help its industry. In fact, the lower a GDP (aka productivity), the more a government's need to subsidize and its nascent industry. Britain in 1700s, was the template for subsidizing its companies, and this practice has lasted till today: Many definitions of merchantilism define "Mercantilism to be the basic policy imposed by Britain on its colonies. Mercantilism meant that the government and the merchants became partners with the goal of increasing political power and private wealth, to the exclusion of other empires. The government protected its merchants - and kept others out - by trade barriers, regulations, and subsidies to domestic industries in order to maximise exports from and minimise imports to the realm." In recent memory, Korea had a GDP lower than Nigeria... (I've rechecked, Korea:$3.9 billion, Nigeria:$4.2 billion in 1960). A former colony of Japan, they were fully devastated by war, rampant infant mortality, starvation, and by every measure in much worse shape than Nigeria at that time. They stimulated their industries - using the same techniques I've outlined, and are now the 12 richest country globally. What's our excuse again? 1 Like |

Nice, the entrepreneurial spirit of Nigerians is unquestionable, but the problem is corruption and setting their priority right

Can we translate this into a large scale business and derive from the economy of scale, not just post pictures of a few set of beautiful upholsteries that are not market proven?

Men in the land are visionary and hardworking but the leaders are greedy and selfish and visionless. By now Aba ought to have become industrial hub..but alas..the successive Govt are doing nothing to develop the infrastructure of the place. You see them building palaces as if they won't die forever.
