The government of Kogi has maintained that the state is free of COVID-19, accusing the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) of having an agenda to spread the disease across the country.

On Wednesday, NCDC had announced that Kogi recorded two cases of the virus.

But Haruna Audu, Kogi health commissioner, had said the state government would not accept any “fictitious” claim from the NCDC.

Speaking on Channel Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, Kingsley Fanwo, commissioner for information, described the cases reported in the state as a “beautiful fraud”.

Fanwo alleged that one of the patients, an imam was stung by bees before he was transferred to Abuja from the Federal Medical Center, Lokoja, where he was tested and declared positive for coronavirus.

“As far as we are concerned, the declaration of those cases is fraudulent and fails the major credibility test, it is a backdoor declaration that is laden with a lot of fraud,” he said.

“A patient was itted to the FMC Lokoja for symptoms far from ‪COVID-19‬ but they were not attended to there. They were brought to National Hospital in Abuja where they were tested and declared positive within 24 hours.

“We do not only think this is a beautiful fraud, but we also think it is a very bad script acted by bad actors.

“The man is a chief imam, they went for a burial and he was attacked by bees and it affected his sight. He went to a clinic and when he was not recovering fast he was referred to the FMC Lokoja.

“We got wind that they were attempts to take the man to Abuja without following the NCDC protocol, we sent our people so as to test to know if he fits into the criteria, on getting there the FMC officials said the man ran away from the hospital.

“Only for us to hear that their ambulance and the staff of the FMC followed the man to Abuja for them to say they have conducted tests and say he was coronavirus positive.

“NCDC should stop defrauding this country. I am not one of those people who think NCDC is helping, I think NCDC has an agenda to spread ‪COVID19‬ to the federation and when there was no case in Kogi, they did all they could to ensure that Kogi has a case.”

At least the small boy knows that NCDC, FG and state governors are concocting figures so as to get more money from international donors. I never liked Yahaya Bello but his position on NCDC deserves some respect. NCDC should just let Kogi State be else Yahaya Bello will wash their dirty linen in public.

Still lost about Kogi matter.......But if Covid 19 is in Nigeria what is the probability that is not in Kogi state?......or we have chosen to live in denial because we have not seen someone who is affected........forgetting that we have stigma psyche.......and alot of Nigerians seem to have malaria right now and how many are testing for Covid 19?.......which have similar signs with malaria .......But because we are used to malaria and our body always fight it ......the severe effect its having on the whites wont be the same on we blacks......I understand we are dealing with an insincere government but we must act like learned people and do our research well before shouting scam up and down......let's be safe and guided.

This analogy would have made more sense if majority of Kogi citizens doesn't want NCDC in their state and not the state government who are more interested in covering up no. of cases. If there is anything we have learned about the infection rate I'll say the probability of Kogi with zero cases is very low - even more so considering interstate movement was only recently banned.

Any states not conducting test in the name of propaganda risk undermining the whole effort of other states so it is the responsibility of NCDC to gather as much information about each states and tailor their response accordingly.

Only an idioot will believe that kogi and lokoja in particular will be completely covid free, given the fact its a major transit point.

Even if the doctors there are afraid to speak out for fear of victimization, what of NMA and other bodies? why arent they speaking out?

I think buhari should summon yahaya bello. This is getting rather embarrassing. If kogi is saying no case they should be left alone but NCDC is also mandated by law to perform it's statutory role. Thank God kogi is an APC state if it were a PDP state now we for no hear word
