The former lawmaker also urged China to respect the rights of Nigerians, noting that there were many illegal Chinese migrants in Nigeria, who are not being singled out for maltreatment by the Nigerian Government

Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has urged Nigerians in China to continue to demand their right, noting that it was clear the Chinese do not want Africans in their country.

The former lawmaker also urged China to respect the rights of Nigerians, noting that there were many illegal Chinese migrants in Nigeria, who are not being singled out for maltreatment by the Nigerian Government

She spoke during a town hall meeting held via Zoom with Nigerians in the America's on Saturday.

Among others, Dabiri-Erewa addressed questions on business, health and politics as it concerns Nigerians in the Diaspora.

While reacting to a question on what the Nigerian Government was doing to address the discrimination and maltreatment of Nigerians in China, she said, “The issue of China has been recurring and I have been to the Chinese Embassy a couple of times, putting into consideration what has been happening to Nigerians in China.

“I will be very realistic with the issue of Africans in China…what I am seeing is that they don’t want Africans in China. Some businessmen are stranded there but when you want to your home, they don’t allow you. In China, if you don’t have a residence, you can’t get a permit.”

Dabiri-Erewa noted that talks were ongoing to address the maltreatment.

She urged Nigerians to obey the laws of the Chinese Government and try to stay out of trouble.

She added, “It is still tough for Nigerians in China. It (maltreatment) is still going on and it has to be dealt with. Right now, there is a little bit of sanity but we don’t know how long it will last but there has to be a permanent solution to the issue of blacks being maltreated in China.

“We need to build a world of peace and love. There has to be reciprocity: Respect me and I respect you, treat me well and I treat you well. They should demand their right and obey their laws too but the laws should not be discriminatory.”

So many negative stories about China these days

But this is also telling us that our problem will stop if we realize our full potentials that as Africans we are capable of developing our own very homeland

It's so unfortunate that bad leadership made Nigeria and Africa this ugly.
The Chinese are not even whites. The Europeans don't even value them.
China should be on same level with Africa just that we got it wrong from the onset.

Imagine Chinese discriminating against the Europeans
If Nigeria and Africa can invest more in manufacturing, we will reduce our dependence on China and that is when they will value us

Continuous pressure on them will change things. I don't believe an eye for an eye policies because it makes us blind.

Our delegates assigned for the job should continue to be steadfast and always be alert and willing to act in favour of our diaspora citizens in China and other nations at large.

It seems kinda fair if you ask me. We hardly contribute anything to them, but they contribute greatly to us. So that kinda imposes a kind of supremacy.
All of una senseless people wey dey quote me up and down, you beta start using your heads, you have nothing to contribute to someones land, yet you still go there in droves; china of all nations who are battling with population control and you expect to be welcomed with open arms? Are you okay? Now flip the coin, china is a near world power, have high number of expertrates in almost every field of endeavour, they come to a nation like nigeria with their superior skills, technology and not to mention their global influence, not in search of greener pastures but on contracts to improve the structure of the nation, probably the money they are offered isn't even enough, so they decide to take in addition, some of the vast resources the nation has and you expect to be treated equally. Beta you start working on yourself instead of blaming others for your stupidity.

Racism is difficult to erase as it is usually put in the minds of people from childhood through racial slurs, stereotyping and prejudices. This engraves enduring sense of race superiority in the mind. It is the same thing with sense of ethnic superiority, which is common here in Nigeria.

However, extreme racism comes from feeling of combination of superiority and benefactory. A son of a millionaire will rarely treat the child of gateman as a mate or equal. The sense of superiority is there. But all that will certainly change if in future the son of gateman achieved success and wealth to operate on the same frequency with the son of the rich man. Respect is earned and sense of superiority disappears.

My point is Nigeria and Nigerians will continue to be rated and viewed poorly by Chinese and other such countries until we elect visionary leaders, install basic infrastructure that are taken for granted in other countries, upgrade our economy, import less and produce more locally and stop dependence on economies such as China for goods, services and developmental loans and grants.

As far as we remain a hopelessly unproductive import-depedent country known largely for a medley of mismanaged oil wealth, corrupt leaders and systems, runaway doctors, good footballers, youth emigration, online frauds, drug trafficking, etc., don't expect to be treated like a giant when you are actually a midget.

That Nigeria harbors illegal Chinese in her country doesn't make it right for China to do the same.

If Nigeria has some balls, the leaders should fix the country so that Nigerians don't have the urge to leave this country anymore

The same way southern nigerians don't want fulanis in their region, the same way south Africa don't want nigerians in their country.

The better region don't want parasites and pests in their region, it's human survival instinct.

Instead of nigerians to hold their leaders able and see how south Africa and Ghana are now better than nigeria in all human development but they decide to play the victim mentality and cry up and down.

If nigeria was developed, what would nigerians be doing in other countries except tourism?

Why is it that you can scream racism in America and get justice, but it doesn't work in China? Is it taht Chinese people don't feel guilt? Is it better this way?

Black Africans/Nigerians are the most targeted race on earth. Why?
.... Because you cannot devalue yourself and expect others to increase your value for you.

We have destroyed our motherland (or allowed our land to be destroyed and exploited), and then run to another man's land. lt does not work that way.

And for those of you who do not know, the literal translation of Africa in Chinese is - Feizhou (非洲). It means an empty or a waste land.

Therefore, these comments / maltreatments are not unexpected.

If the Chinese does not want Nigerians in China, is it not a wake up to the Nigerian Govt to sit up and wean themselves from the over-reliance on China?
