Nice... the best won.
Even Burna is her fan. That's why he sampled her track "We We" as a bridge in his own track "Anybody". For those who didn't know this, please listen to both tracks.
I heard Angelique kidjo songs as a child, her winning a Grammy this year means I have to go and look for her songs, I'm missing good music, what we have these days is just beats/noise then more beats/noise
I probably only have about max of 3 of her songs currently

Do Hausa people play fuji song?
I'm saying the noisy Yoruba fuji songs sound better than Fela's songs.
I can confirm the Yorubas are good at Hip-hop music, it's that also tribalism?
Nna Fela and his songs are rubbish.
The only thing I like him for is standing against politicians
I like you. You are objective and truthful

Greatness begets greatness
I far back in 2013 when Angelique kidjo featured Asa in her melodious album 'Eva' which celebrated the pride, strength, and smile that masks everyday troubles faced by African women.
The album had a wide array of African languages, Fon, Yoruba, Goun, Mina etc
Asa also is doing greatly in her own way and she still very much portrays the Yoruba culture to and the world. Her recent Album 'Lucid' has a good blend of fine sounds that carries messages.
'Happy People' which celebrates the resilient nature of Nigerian women irrespective of odds is one of my favorite.
Congratulations to both Angelique and Burna boy, they both are African giants.
You know good music.

He will never win a Grammy
that's because you will die early and not live to see him win it

This is wrong. Beyoncé, Eminem, MJ's 'Thriller', Taylor Swift's '1989', and even Jay Z have all won the Grammy Album of the year award.
Most of the songs on their albums are club bangers, and widely accepted by younger generations. I can't imagine any of Jay Z's, and Eminem songs that will will be accepted by religious leaders.
Most educated folks don't even understand Eminem's raps because he is always dissing the world and lacing his materials with double and triple entendres.
The category is much more beyond acceptability and the class or category of people your album resonate with. Kidjo will still return and win another next year as always.
Modified
To those quoting and 'correcting' me about Beyoncé, Em, Jay Z et al, about not winning the world album of the year. NOTE THST I DIDN'T MENTION THE WORLD ALBUM OF THE YEAR BUT ALBUM OF THE YEAR. The criteria remains the same for both while the reach is the only difference.
I cited them as winners of similar categories with club bangers as a response to the fellow who stated that your album must appeal to clerics, religious bodies and the UN to win the category.
. No strong competitor there .. they are all in same set.. burna case here his competing with an old time legend with true music ... maybe when she slow down then burnaboy can collect the award that's if he still keep on the hard work ... and another thing she has her own legacy but burna boy is under baba fela legacy ... burna boy even use one of her rhythm on his own song ... so the gap is very wide she's a legend burna no dey her level ... na dem baba fela mate she be ...

A well deserved win to Kidjo.
The content of her songs are out of this world. She is a mix of Maya Angelou and Miriam Makeba.
Music lovers and genuine content critics like myself would have given up on the credibility and essence of the Grammy Awards if another undeserving artiste had won this.
Sentiments aside, Nigeria is yet to replicate another Fela Kuti in the global music sphere.
Fela is the only Nigerian deserving of a Grammy.
Because music is not about dancesteps or groupie trends but about a movement, a message, reawakening a consciousness and yet the melody from real musical instruments.
This is a reality lost on today's Nigerian artistes aside from Asá who still lacks in consistency.
As an African act, till your music can be accepted by Pastors, Imams, Youths, elders, global leaders, United Nations and illiterates, then you stand a chance of being an African Album or winning a foreign award in Music.
Nigeria and Nigerians must understand that club bangers do not translate to foreign awards in global music.
This is best that has ever come out from your mouth.

I just tire. Jay Z that sings alot of sex, money, weed, crack, has a closet full of Grammy nominations and the gong itself. So I don't know
Jays, eminem and co were competing in a rap category. Dts a niche category.
World album is a wide category. It’s the whole world outside the USA. Dts stiff competition. Getting nominated alone feels like a win.

I don't agree totally with you Captain, put away sentiment, Burna Boy should have won that category and for Kidjo to acknowledge that meant he was so deserving as well . He had more recognition in the whole of Africa this past year than any other musician .
What about 2face Idibia? He was Africa's best at a time, his globally acclaimed African Queen was even sampled in a Hollywood movie.
If you say music is not about groupie trends , then the likes of Lady Gaga shouldn't have walk through that stage in iration.
Ehn ehn have u ever listened to lady Gaga’s music?! You know she arranges and writes her albums right? She doesn’t sample beats and lyrics from older musicians. You know she plays the piano during her live performances. Have u ever heard her VOICE??!!!!!!! Please don’t bring lady Gaga into this convo, she has more talent in her fingernails than burnas whole career! I’m not joking!!!!!Dt is a f**king musician in every sense of the word!!!!

Well said, I thought I was the only one who knew this fact that Nigerian music is still asleep. Lol all we have these days are beats with no lyrics or message.
This message/lyrics stuff though importsnt is overhyped. It may pkay a role but not the oversized roles people give it. It may play a bigger role to the judges but the average audience doesn't care.
Lots of raps songs just glorify nonsense, yet they sell loads and even win awards. Music artists produce what people want to listen to. That is what sells and not lyrics and message.
Burnaboy simply lost to a far more superior artist. Just like you won't expect Burnaboy to beat Fela, this case falls into that same category. For him to have been in the running is a sign of talent

Painful to the core. We just lost Kobe and burna missing global award ,what a bad Sunday.
I don't understand how you place those 2 side by side. One does not equate the other in any way...
Kobe's death is painful to all to the very core... But, Burna's loss was quite predictable and even expected by anyone who understands or truly loves music.

Brother, let's forget religion and whatever... Let's even for a minute, forget the personality of Madame Kidjo.
I have sampled both albums... Celia is nearly miles ahead of African Giant in every way.
Younger people have been snatching top awards from the reigning stars too in U.S and other countries for decades...
It's all about album quality as judged by seasoned musical professionals... This is not a popularity contest.
