Even the small towns, you can enjoy your life. If your job is in small towns, please just go there and save tons on house rent... u can always go to big towns every saturdays and all...

Yesterday was chicken fingers $2 per bowl at a bar here... today is $3 ribs per bowl... but you must buy their beer... so social life if cool in Towns let alone the big cities...

Thanks for the heads up. I'll look it up for more info but in the meantime, do you have an idea of the least tuition among the schools you listed for nursing for an international student?

Pros: Easier for PR if you are an international student, diversified economy, decent average wages for professionals (only Alberta is higher), cuisines is oyinbo food, but there are Nigerian food stores scattered across the province, Good number of Nigerian trained doctors and other professionals, less populated, cheap phone plans and car insurance, decent cost of rent or property etc

Cons: Bitterly cold-comparable to Manitoba and Edmonton & up, Mosquitoes in summer, diversity not as much as Ontario or BC, could be boring, no real international airport like the one in Calgary, Vancouver or Toronto, lowest minimum wage in Canada, Infrastructures not as nice as say BC or Ontario.

Moved here from Calgary, Alberta after the world Oil glut seriously affected Alberta's economy. Had a chance to move elsewhere like BC or return to Alberta, but the family loves it here than Alberta, so this is home now. Love Sask - Land of the living skies.

However, you will get you more response and views on the existing Living in Canada thread.

This portion picked my interest (The Nigerian trained doctors).
What are their specs? Are they specialists? Did they have to take the board in their respective fields?

The most common are Family Physicians, followed by Psychiatrists, then O&G and Internists.
What I have realised is that the ones not family Physicians would likely have practiced in South Africa, UK or Ireland before coming to Canada.
The family physicians from Nigeria all had to take regulatory exams. I am not sure about the ones from Europe or SA.

One bed apartment maybe a bit hard to find, buying you do, budget around $750 to $1100 per month. Cost of living are same in both cities.

Nice to know. Can one find out about the ones from SA or Europe? I mean can one find out if they had to take the board before working in their fields and how long it took them before they had it all done? One needs to plan ahead and am curious about this cos my little cousins have started the process and I need to know how long it could take me if and when I decide it's time for me to apply if I so choose.

No. I highly doubt anyone can secure a nursing job from outside Canada. Nursing is regulated, hence you will need a provincial license for an employer in Sask to consider you. It might be easier for that to be done in the US or UK.

Yes. There are board exams, but they can also practice with a restricted license for a period of 18 to 36months. The exams are to be ed within that period. These are for UK trained specialists.

Very close to Regina... Some smart goons stay there and work in Regina. With that, they will be able to buy property cheaper in a city close to Regina and drive into Regina for work in a distance less than Oworonsoki to Ikoyi

There are lots of prospects, especially in a city like Toronto which is well known for financial activities. Alot of new immigrants from Control/Regulatory/compliance usually start off in AML related roles. All the best.

Good day folks.

Quick one, is there a Nigerian community in Saskatoon or Regina? The way you have it in places like Calgary and Edmonton?

Are there a lot of Nigerians in that province?

Thanks

No matter how small the community is, there is always a Nigerian community. Even if they are not up to a certain amount, different cities with close proximity usually come together for a gathering at least once a year during independence. There are independent communities in Regina, Saskatoon, Yorkton, Prince Albert and a combined one in Nipawin that comprises Nigerians in Melfort, Nipawin and Tisdale.

Hmmmm. Oga which Saskatchewan are you describing? It's not a crime to say I don't know. I just returned from the province. The only issue there is the extreme cold weather. Very beautiful place just like any other province in Canada
