A Nigeria Nurse Moving To The UK (21942 Views)

Hello travellanders, I am a nurse in Nigeria. I never planned relocating, but I wouldn’t want to bore us with my reasons for changing my mind. HOWEVER, THE MAJOR REASON IS MY CHILDREN’S FUTURE. I became a nurse 15 years ago and majority of my mates are out of our dear country. I have five (5) nursing diploma certificates, BNSc and MSc Nursing. Infact, I’ve started my Ph.D in Nursing Science (I’m suspending it anyway as I don’t know my bearing yet) I have a fairly good job and my salary is a little above 200k. A lot of my friends have encouraged me to relocate and work in Europe, but I had so much hope in Nigeria and was ‘team vacation’ My story changed August, this year. So, I called a friend who relocated to the UK 14 years ago. She explained the process of relocating as a nurse to 5 different countries to me. After discussion with my husband, parents and siblings, we decided that I should try that of UK. I ed for IELTS and CBT that August and ed. Then, started the process on the nmc UK portal. I googled for an employer, got an agency, did interview and got the job. I paid the required fee. My employer asked me to resume November, but I told them I wasn’t ready as everything happened so fast, and my decision letter wasn’t ready then. So, I used that as an excuse, although they felt disappointed. But I need more bonding with my kids as I won’t be traveling with them. They will have to me after some months. I’ve gotten my decision letter and visa now and will be moving before the end of January. Why did I open this thread? 1. To learn from people that have done this in the past 2. To assist people going through the same process I will answer questions concerning the process to the best of my ability and ask questions when I also need clarification (maybe when I want to start packing my bags) IGNORE ALL ERRORS!!! 25 Likes 4 Shares |

You have taken a very good decision, not for yourself alone but for your children also. I will advice you make adequate arrangement to get your family to you as soon as you can. It is always not too good when you are separated from your children especially when they are still very young. It takes a toll on your relationship with them and even your husband. Congratulations once more.

Congratulations Ma. Can i get some advice from nurse professionals here? I have an intention to go back and study nursing, this is after 4 years of graduating with bsc biochemistry from uniport. However, right now i am confused as i don't know if it is much better enrolling to school of Nursing or the University. The fear of ASUU strike scares me from choosing the latter as i am in my late twenties and i wouldn't want to spend extra years. Studying abroad is no bread and butter as it involves much financial commitment which i can't afford. If not, that option would have been the best for me. I want to know if obtaining RN after 3 years at SON guarantees one of getting a job outside Nigeria. |

Ufemia26: All you need to secure a job abroad is your RN certificate which you can get from school of nursing. When you get abroad, you can do a top-up program of one year and get your degree. I used my RN certificate only despite all my other qualifications. 11 Likes |

Hi cchimaa I am asking on behalf of my sister who just finished her bsc with good grades and currently doing her internship after which she will proceed for her youth service. She is interested in working abroad after her service year. What are her prospects as regards getting a job as a nurse in the UK. She has RN certificate already 2 Likes |

Abatemtem: God’s guidance is what we need. I fought this for years, but had to be convinced this is what I want and NEED atm. DON’T DO THINGS BECAUSE EVERYONE IS DOING IT. We want different things in life. Wish you the very best. 2 Likes |

sirvvy: 1. IELTSUKVI - 98k 2. CBT - 55k (this is because someone helped me to pay, candidates can now pay from their Nigeria bank and it’s now cheaper - around 34k or so, not very sure) 3. NMC UK registration - around 65k 4. Transcript from my nursing school and courier service 5. Sending of documents to nmc UK 6. NMCN verification- 70k (it’s that high because someone helped me to monitor it, though I still waited than necessary. THE REAL PRICE IS 53,500) NB - I had to travel and lodge for both exams, because they do not have centers where I live. 5 Likes 1 Share |

Divine200: OSCE - practical aspect, where manipulative skills will be checked. Employers do train new employees for this anyway. 1 Like |

Could you please recommend the materials you used for the preparation of the exam? From your experience about this exam, can you recommend some tips to be successful. What a nice decision you took for yourself and for the sake of your children. Please I'd like to know if Radiography as a profession has prospects in the UK. I'm currently in my 3rd year and would like to migrate and practice over there once I'm done with my studies. |
