Useless country. They are never prepared for emergency. Always running from pillar to pole when it happens. Just look at 16 people wasted just like that....
Gidah: 8:32pm On Jun 30, 2019
Sadly they even forced the boat pilot to drive them.
And it's even bad timing cos it's very late even if it was in the USA it would be hard to save everyone cos it's very late in the night 10pm. Rip to the dead

They won't come out and protest. They won't hold government able to make things work better, if it's coza they will come out in numbers to protest instead of going to court.

I have always known Nigerians are docile when it comes to national issues& we don't have priorities. but with this coza matter, our people took it to a whole new level

I no wan hear say Dem shoot bird mama fly.
God should keep us from danger.
May their souls rest in peace.

Buy yourself a life jacket if the boat you board don't have one. My friend said people were laughing at him for putting a seat belt because he was at the back of a bus travelling for an 8 hour journey. People don't take safety serious in this country.

Boat mishap. Which one be boat capsize?!
Kakamorufu(m): 8:40pm On Jun 30, 2019
to issue life jacket engers is now a big deal. Those authorities uncharged of Lagos waterways should make it compulsory for these operators to have life jackets that will be enough for engers in their boats.

Now Uber want to start their own boat transportation..

I will never even try it..

I prefer traffic o

Before we begin to blame authorities, I use that route once in a while, they close by 6.00pm. I one day when I got there by 2mins after 7pm, despite my pleading and offer to pay 3 Times the usual fare, they insisted that they were closed and do not operate after closing hours. Also life jacket if compulsory along that route. No enger is allowed on boats without a life jacket. So this 10pm trip is fishy and by all indications illegal. Something is definitely not right

It is obvious the waterways need stringent regulations if it must be kept safe.

By now we should have active Coast Guards securing the water ways. The boats / ferries should have an SOP that they are inspected on just like on the highways.

Every enger must wear live jackets as a minimum. Boats should not depart from the terminals (and should be stopped on the water ways) unless all their engers are wearing functional live jackets. Confiscation and Heavy fines for violations should be applied.

In fact each boat must carry extra live jackets for emergencies as a rule!!!

There are regulations, engers are given life jackets but it seems these ones left illegally.

RIP to them all

Those waters are unlighted at night, no buoys, no traffic separation scheme. Smart people should avoid boarding boats at nights.

Rivers or ocean always don't see strangers with eyes...

Roads are for all, but rivers are not for all..

What sort of rubbish is this from Lagos State? Why are they talking about the waterways without ensuring safety?
Re: Lagos Boat Capsize: Pregnant Woman Dies, 16 Missing In (photos) by Nobody: 11:53pm On Jun 30, 2019
as usual, no regulation. Settle area boys and officials and you are free to operate with no consideration for safety.

What happens to giving out life jacket to engers? For the life of me, I won't enter a boat without one. If they don't have I just don't board. If it is an area I use frequently I'd buy myself one. Most people in this country called Nigeria play with people's lives and safety. My condolences to the people who lost their lives to this tragedy. I hope victim's family get to sue the boat company for negligence.

Seriously, if they were not given personal floatation devices (PFDs), the boat company and the LASG should be sued for gross negligence and manslaughter by the bereaved families immediately. This should send a strong message to other boat companies and save future lives.

And vice versa, Nigerians play with their lives.

Simply don’t board any commercial vessel that doesn’t offer approved life preservers.

the jetty closes at 6 or 7. Cant . From my friend who lives near there. The engers got there and could not get a boat as it had closed. They then saw this boat coming from repair shop and they begged him till her agreed to carry them. The rest is history.

The engers didn't wear life jackets but the rescue team wore life jackets.
Accidents like this happens when there is no law governing the water ways.
Imagine 16 engers are still missing. Who knows? they must have drowned. Safety first.
RIP to the dead.
we are very good at not obeying any laws.
We know the law is there, but we will not obey it.
Pirating softwares, pirating music, paying workers below minimum wage (Do you know anyone who can take care of his transport, rent and feeding for N18,000? What of N30,000, what of N50,000?) Is it not more of N100,000 that makes actual sense?

We know what is right but keep on doing what is wrong. Then later act surprised when things go bad
