What I am still dazed about is how it's possible for criminals to withdraw money from someone's bank just by getting hold of the sim card. Mind you, my phone can only be accessed via a PIN, so the possibility of them making a transfer using my bank's mobile app is ruled out. So how did they do it?

How do you your SIM please?

Very simple, go to your phone settings, under security you'll see "Sim card lock" you can set your there...

Incase the SIM block you'll need your puk to unlock it

no need to ask how the money was withdraw because is a simple stuff, what the pick pocket did was to buy airtime directly using your sim. you know banks dont require pin to buy airtime and if the dude is smart enough he or she can just buy airtim, create a transfer pin and start wireing.

Next time the first thing to do is to call your bank to block all channels for mobile transactions.

All banks have 24hrs service and a hotline.

My guess on how they transferred money is what is getting me confused, except If auto save /pin is enabled, it is literally impossible for them to succeed.

Or OP do you have a weak /pin such as 0000 or 1234?

Simple.. It only works for some stupid banks that ask for the last four digit of your BVN as alternative when completing ussd transactions

Confirm from your bank if the money was withdrawn via ATM by the said criminal. Then, your bank can provide you the footage bearing the face of the thief. It's your right...

I've since learnt that the first thing to do after such theft to block your line. Then your bank to block your as well.

Did they withdraw it or tranfer it or use it for online shopping?

There no way someone can withdraw money from someone by stealing the person phone except if you have your bank details on the phone and which serious person in useless country like Nigeria will go and store his or her bank details on the phone,when you no dey mad.

Depends on the bank. UBA for example asks for pin when transferring with sim card. Banks like GTB or so don't ask for anything at all. They just authenticate the transaction without any security measure.

The best security is "SIM Lock" feature where your PIN must be entered to access your SIM (which they can easily put into another phone to get your BVN).
