Ben Bruce Shades Buhari For Overthrowing Shagari's istration In 1983 (23793 Views)

echodrum: Dr. Junaid is suffering from poor memory of History by saying that Buhari overthrown Late Sheu Shagari's government in 1983. Buhari was never part of the coup that terminated the NPN government of Shagari. Buhari became Head of State as a result of the junta inabilty to pick a leader among themselves perhaps because of the death of Brigadier Bako who was killed by National Guards protecting Shagari then. The faith the young soldiers had in Buhari's personality led to his selection to be the Head of State after they had succeeded with the coup. Buhari became Head of State as a matter of necessity, so Junaid should keep quiet for ever. teejet: 1 Like |

bizzibodi: Go and buy stolen goods knowing fully well that the goods in question were stolen. Even if we should exonerate Buhari from being actively involved in executing the coup we should hold him able for not honoring the oath of loyalty to Shagari his CnC. Officers have been executed for less talk more of Buhari who benefited from the coup the most. The case of an officer who was executed alongside Gideon Okah for knowing that a coup was in the making but refused to inform his superiors. This same officer was detained by Buhari after he reported the coup plot against Shagari. During IBB, he was aware of a coup plot but because he suffered arrest when he informed on Buhari's coup plot, he chose to remain silent. He was executed alongside the coupists not as an active conspirator but for failing to inform his superior officers. Now of that Yoruba officer can be executed for not informing on a coup he knew was on the way but to which he had no part in, then what do you expect the fate of Buhari to be? |

Ubiudumo: Really? Perhaps it was Buhari that asked Awolowo to warn shagari govt as far back as July 1981 that Nigeria was heading for economic crisis. It was Buhari that asked shagari govt to ignore Awolowo and even abused him calling him prophet of doom It was Buhari that caused the Nigerian economy to go into recession less than one year later that forced shagari govt to enact Economic Stabilization Act otherwise known as Austerity Measures in April 1982. It was him who introduced import licence in June 1982 to ration the very low foreign reserve. Buhari asked IMF to demand that naira be devalued in January 1983 with other conditionalities which shagari rejected and Buhari that came in a year later also rejected but had to be surreptitiously accepted by Babangida 3 years later under the guise of SAP and SFEM. 4 Likes |

RevLikeBigYansh: The oil boom ended in October 1982 when oil prices crashed. Add the wasteage and the massively bad economic policies, and the Second Republic government was not any good. As I said, still does not justify any coup though. If Buhari wanted to change things, he should have left the army and ed politics. Bubu's army government was not into looting. They punished looters like Barkin Zuwo of Kano who kept 10million naira under his bed, as well as many other politicians who looted and looted. Read Karl. Maier 's This House has fallen for more details I think that Bubu, while not being a looter, did not make the hard choices needed to.make the economy better then. 1 Like |

That is the shit some (cox some of them actually get sense) igbos subjected themselves to , since those stupid Twitter senators( Ben Bruce, Dino, sheu and other senatweets) knew they are the only set of people that can easily fall for their gimmicks just for because of the hate they have for buhari.

Are you guys cursed with amnesia and does corruption run in your fucking blood that you won't appreciate when evil people that brought this Country to her knees are made to pay for their sins. May Shehu Shagari's soul rest in peace but fact remains he was the Atiku of his time. History won't be kind on him as his legacy lives after him. Period! 2 Likes |

RevLikeBigYansh: Buhari took power Dec. 31 1983, so if foreign reserves started dippeing on Dec. 1 1983, then it means it started under Shagari who was still in power as at Dec. 1 1983 to Dec. 31 same year. Also recall that Operation Ghana-must-go which was the government's response to Nigeria's rapidly falling economy was launched by the Shagari-Ekweme government....an evidence that the recession of the 80s actually started under Shagari due to the monumental looting and misrule that formed the hallmarks of the NPN government. 3 Likes |

RevLikeBigYansh: In all these your attempts to spin history you were not honest enough to remind your readers that your brother Zik and his Igbo political brethren were the first southerners to partner with the North in 1959 to persecute their fellow southerners whose decision to help themselves against the Hausafulani-Igbo Oligarchy onslaught led to the Igbo tragedy on the long run. You also could not spare a single line to remind us how your own brother Aguiyi Ironsi pioneered the introduction of military take over in Nigeria and how he destroyed the very world class model system of governance which we all unanimously agreed to as a sovereign people thus his laying of the foundation for the overall failed state status of Nigeria till today. 3 Likes |

Deadlytruth: Buhari emptied the treasury on Dec 31st so entries for December appear as if it was Shagari that emptied the treasury.. I will source for daily entries of forex for 1983 and you will see for yourself that the treasury was looted on Dec 31st. Buhari is a thief |
Deadlytruth(m): 2:31pm On Dec 29, 2018 |
RevLikeBigYansh: We are basing our deduction on your own very claim. According to you, Foreign reserves began to plummet on Dec. 1 1983. We however know that Buhari took over on Dec. 31 1983. It then means the plummetting started 30 days before Buhari came to power thus it started under Shagari. This is simple syllogism. 4 Likes |
