MiFi is a brand name used to
describe a wireless router that acts as
mobile Wi-Fi hotspot .

Possible explanation for the name"MiFi" is "Mobile Wi-Fi" or "My Wi-Fi"

It depends on the network. It does not matter who manufactured the device or who sold it.

I currently use spectranet. They WERE good, very very good back then but their service has become rubbish and also very expensive. Their data also finishes fast.

I have persisted with them because there is no better alternative. Glo is cheap and fast when they are not running mad. But when their madness starts, Multilinks 1x of those years will be better.

I hate MTN but I think when they launch their 4G LTE, It will be the best due to their strong network coverage.

It depends on location and price of the mifi. Get the one that is affordable to you

Get a Spectranet Mifi and I will unlock it for you, to use any network of your choice. But if you need one, I can get it for you.

I use both smile and swift . From experience here are the advantages and disadvantages

Smile
- Faster than swift
- the modem battery last longer
- the validity for any plan 10Gb and above is one year meaning you can use 10GB for 1 year if you dont exhaust it
- Smile is expensive for a high like me ,I basically just load it for backup purpose
- its pay as you go package makes sense
- The modem comes with a 5GB free data

Swift
- Its fast not as fast as smile
- you lose network once you get to some outskirt of lagos
- It has amazing plans far cheaper than swift

I should do a comprehensive write up on this

I use Spectranet and you can roll over.. I currently have over 100gb worth of data..

My advice is to call them to be sure it's working in your area.. To avoid problems. Eg Spectranet doesn't work in most states only Lagos, Abuja, Ibadan and I think Port Harcourt.

Spectranet is 10 for 20gb and 10gb worth free night browsing. .

Beat part it's FREE on public holiday.. You can use unlimited data and you won't be charged.. .

Spectranet are now throttling their 'unlimited' night browsing.

Once it's 1am spend drops to 50kbps. Goes back to 1mbps after 7.spectranet na scam.

Going to clear my unused data if this nonsense continues.

Does it mean the MiFi works for only mobile phones or any device that is WiFi enabled.

It works with all devices. It's just that you can carry it about hence the word "mobile"
That is, it is portable enough so you can take it anywhere with you unlike a stationary hotspot.

Some (if not most) are even pocket-sized.

I think swift is it for me!! their family plus 68gb for 8k 5pm to 9am, 24hrs on weekends and public holidays!! but it depends on coverage, you have to call them OR alternatively you buy a router and a modem, and use any glo subscriptions and create a Hotspot, I used to do it with airtel but now level don elevate!! grin

Glo Mifi is indeed cheap. MultiLinks of those years was the deal back then, not in a world where you have to do endless things that require large bandwidth.

I wouldn't know of about the unlimited data plan, but I'd recommend the OP to get Glo's MiFi and subscribe to the #2500 data plan for 10GB. It is a cheap monthly plan. That's what I have come to adopt myself.
