I am live in the biggest medication market in ogbogwu in onitsha (anambra state) to
EXPOSE THE EXPLOITATION, STAL!
NG,OPPR3$$ION AND ABUSE OF POWER BY NAFDAC(national agency for food and drug istration and control) against the traders of drugs and medical products,

on the 8th of February 2025 NAFDAC shut the market down with the reason that some shops were selling fake drugs, instead of NAFDAC to arr3st the people selling these fakes drugs they decided to shut down the whole market with over 5000 shops after 3 months they came back to say each shop will pay 500,000 naira to get their shops opened back and then they later went on to increase it to 700,000 naira per shop, so far so good over 1000 shop owners have reportedly paid to have their shops opened while some other people cannot pay, well THIS IS INJUSTICE AND TOTAL EXTORTION AND ABUSE OF POWER AND OFFICE, if NAFDAC say they found fake drugs they should go on to prosecute those found wanting why are they forcing everyone to pay 700,000 for a crime committed by some
persons (THIS IS NOT THE NIGERIA WE WANT) I am calling on the federal government and the government of anambra state to stop this extortion

...and most can't sustainably man a business.... they think it's easy to establish business and run it successfully

No news on those arrested for fake drugs in the market.

No prosecution.

Na same cycle of how NAFDAC officials enrich themselves in the name of fighting against fake drugs

Good one from VDM

This is the same guy, some lots celebrated his arrest.

Nigeria needs more people like this.

700,000 x 5, 000 shops = 3,500,000,000

Tell me why those shops after paying this huge amount of money as bribe wouldn't go back to selling fake drugs.

The cycle continues...its so sad.

He made a good point

NAFDAC never ever arrest people for selling fake drugs, instead they met out collective punishment which makes more people sell fake since they would be punished regardless.

EFCC remains the most effective agency in this country.

Shops should not have been closed indiscriminately. NAFDAC found adulterated, counterfeit, and expired drugs in a handful of shops, yet it unjustly punished 95% of innocent businesses for the actions of just 5%. This sets a dangerous precedent that must be condemned.

When Obi said it Doesn't make sense locking all the shops because of 1 or 2 people caught selling fake drugs some miscreants called for his head. Imagine locking over 5000 shops because of someone caught selling fake drugs and asking them to pay 700k each for re-opening, that's over 3.5billion naira. Are they encouraging people to sell fake drugs, then when caught you can pay 700k and everyone goes home happily. Imagine Nafdac locking their comments on Instagram 😂😂 the oga pablo wey be drug kingpin na no1 man.

Did NAFDAC say that all the traders in the said market deal on fake medications?

I think most of us just say anything that pops in our head....probably because we are not affected directly.

It's, however, not a good way of life to only speak the truth when we are affected.

Let's just hope it never gets to a day where the police will pack everyone in an entire town because one criminal committed a crime.

NAFDAC plays politics with drugs and get away with it, because they know that gullible Nigerians will believe whatever they say.

Do you blame them? They spend millions of Naira on laundering their image as the most righteous organisation in the Nigeria, but behind the scenes you will be shocked how corrupt they can be.
They are truly getting value for money spent on media propaganda.

Some of their processes are not straightforward. You won't even find robust information on their website. Then you visit their office, bureaucratic blockades everywhere. The only option? They point to their 'middle men' also known as 'Consultants'.

Try ing a medical product in this country for importation you will spend not less than 10 million naira, but on Remita, your receipt will only read N4 million naira. This money is just to get the NAFDAC number for that product you want to import from India or China. The undocumented fee goes under the table. Of course you know na. grin

Investigative journalists should beam their search lights on NAFDAC, they will be shocked about what they will find hidden in the closet, beyond all their self-glorification in the media space.

This one is suffering from the 'propaganda overdose' I talked about earlier. For him it is either black or white..no questions. grin

If everybody in that market is selling fake drugs, do you think you would be alive today after taking the malaria drug you took last week? grin

They actually asked them to pay N3 million per shop at Idumota.

Negotiation brought it down to 700k per shop.

Seun Okinbaloye and Rufai should invite the NAFDAC DG to come and explain on TV. I want to see her lie through her teeth that no money was demanded by NAFDAC.

The country is a dog-eat-dog situation.
