Senators from the South-east geopolitical zone yesterday drew the attention of the Senate to successive strategic exclusion of the region from key development projects of the federal government.

The latest according to them, was the N3.2 trillion Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Funded irrigation development projects under the 2025 Appropriation Act. Their protest was sequel to a motion moved by Kenneth Eze from Ebonyi State.

Rising under Orders 41 and 51, the senator expressed frustration over what he described as mounting complaints from his constituents and the wider South-East geopolitical zone over recurring marginalisation of the region.

Eze noted that Section 4 of the 1999 Constitution empowers the National Assembly to make laws for equitable national development. Sections 14(3 and 4), he added, mandate fairness and justice in resource distribution.

He added that the 2025 budget allocates N3.2 trillion under the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund, with N38 billion set aside for irrigation projects nationwide.

However, Eze pointed out, while the programme is designed as a national initiative, its implementation plan excludes the Anambra-Imo River Basin Development Authority. He said it is the only authority serving the entire South-east.

He described the omission as “unjustifiable” and contrary to President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, which emphasises equity and inclusivity.

Eze said: “The South-east, with its vast arable land and long-standing contributions to Nigeria’s agriculture sector, deserves to benefit from this fund.” He cited statistics showing the region s for 30 per cent of national yam production and over 15 per cent of cassava output. He also referenced major agricultural initiatives operating in the region.

Eze listed key irrigation and agricultural projects in the Southeast—such as the Auzara and Okaku Agribusiness clusters, and the Ivo Dam Irrigation Project—that could significantly benefit from the fund if included.

They are all fighting for their own pockets
They should go and bow more to tinubu and make more promises of 100% SE votes in 2027

Somebody hearing these ones talk will really think they are fighting for the masses, while in reality they want their share of the money

I still maintain my stance that Igbos have never experienced marginalization in the real sense of the word 'marginalization'.. Yorubas have been marginalized, humiliated, disrespected so much in Nigeria despite the fact that over 75% of FG's revenue comes from South West.

Beleive it or not, had it been South West was the excluded region, you wouldn't hear pim from the mum.us representing Yorubaland at NASS.

Nigeria is just a basket of missed opportunities, injustice, marginalization, scorched-earth policies. Glitches may God defend and protect his people and destroy any enemy of fair play, visit them with tribulations, insecurities, economic degradation until they are wasted and washed away from the surface of the earth

Just watch and see how it will be swept under the carpet by the puppet senate...I told you guys, that the only thing you can get from this Yoruba govt,is bigotry, nepotism, tribalism and more marginalization.Tinubu is a local champion,he thinks the world starts and end in Lagos and its sister states.

This is exactly the aim of British racists by forcing progressive igbos to people who don’t know how to progress inspite of opportunities around them…the British set Igbos back by 100 years by forcing igbos together with these people

See the fulls above justifying this obvious marginalization

But no problem we would spill out the marginalization... Yet still beat them with their government given advantage

I would always say there is absolutely nothing Nigeria can do to Igbos today that is worse than what Igbos have faced from Nigeria before and we thrived

Umahi, Soludo and that Dep. Senate President Kalu should do it.

Guess they are more interested in second term than their people's welfare.

From your logic those who voted for Tinubu are enjoying insecurity too. Borno, etc.
Maybe insecurity is the dividend of Tinubu's government.

Some people up there commenting have truly exchanged their brains for sawdust. Imagine someone ( who claims that he doesn't reason through his rear end ) saying that Southeasterners must all port to APC before they can benefit anything from the government. It then means that Nigeria should be practicing one-party system, right?
And maybe, after that, all Nigerians must become Yoruba to even get more from the FG.
Unbelievable.

Most of these programmes have been hijacked by politicians and their allies the real farmers and beneficiaries are being sidelined. We need an honest investigative journalist to launch investigation on government intervention programmes in the states.Kaduna State will be a good case study.
