"Tinubu couldn’t have fixed Nigeria’s mismanaged economy in 24 months" – Oshiomhole.

Adams Oshiomhole, a lawmaker of the Nigerian Senate, has said that Nigerians cannot expect President Bola Tinubu to fix Nigeria’s mismanaged economy within the period of 24 months that he has been in office.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, the former governor of Edo State said the nation’s economy was mismanaged by past istrations.

While stating that he was not out to blame anyone for Nigeria’s bad economy, Oshiomhole said the worst is over for Nigerians.

“The kind of economy that was inherited by this government, and you expect that in 24 months, he (President Bola Tinubu) would have fixed all the whole problems and Nigeria would be back.

“Truly truly, this country was badly mismanaged, the economy was badly mismanaged. This is not to blame anyone but this is to speak to facts. “So, I feel I can say that I think the worst is over,” Oshiomhole said.

He also said that Nigerians across the country would begin to experience the benefits of some of the policy reforms implemented by the Tinubu-led istration. We are going to begin to witness improvement in the quality of standard if living.

“I expect that all the other employers of labour who are benefitting from some of the courageous decisions that the president has taken would ensure that they pay a living wage,” the lawmaker added.

Adams Oshiomhole, senator representing Edo North Senatorial District and two-time governor of Edo State, has demonstrated a penchant for blaming Nigeria’s woes on the previous istration or leader at every point in time.

Barely after two months former President Goodluck Jonathan handed over government to the immediate past president, Muhammadu Buhari, in 2015, the country was plunged into economic crisis. Oshiomhole, then as sitting Edo governor, without mincing words blamed the challenges on what he labelled “recklessness” of Jonathan’s government.

Featuring on Sunrise Daily, a breakfast programme on Channels Television, in July 2015, Oshiomhole had said, “The crisis we have at the moment is not a flash; it’s going to be here for some time. I feel what has happened is that at the peak of the oil boom, prices were high and people made projections and budgets were drawn up on the basis of those numbers and along the line there was a sharp drop.

He added that revelations of the excesses of Jonathan’s istration have been coming into the fore, noting that Buhari had made practical efforts to correct his predecessor’s anomalies.

The former Governor now Senator has again latched on to the current growing hardship in the country and ed the blame on Buhari, who left the government about eight months ago.

Many Nigerians and most especially experts have criticized some of the policies introduced by the President Bola Tinubu-led government that have led to hardship, especially the removal of petrol subsidy, which tripled the pump price of fuel. But Oshiomhole said President Tinubu should not be held responsible for the right or wrong decisions taken by the previous istration.

The only governor whose idea of attracting foreign direct investment was importing a Cape Verdean woman. And yet, here he is again, dusting off the same tired lie from the Buhari era.

He keeps regurgitating the same excuse he peddled back then, that Buhari couldn’t possibly fix all the problems created by the PDP in just three years. Now, fast forward to today, and he’s at it again, telling us that Tinubu can’t be expected to fix the economy mismanaged by the Buhari government in just two years.

The consistency is truly impressive, if only it applied to results, not excuses.

Nigerians are groaning under this govt. Same Tinubu that packaged Buhari for Nigerians and watched him crumble the economy for a whooping 8 years just to have his turn? And same that praised Buhari to high heavens are now praising Tinubu?
