He is correct. It is just a word—every insult is just a word. You take offence if you want. No one is forcing you to take offence. I think the word is bad, and no one should be using it. But if America thinks it's perfectly fine for some group to use it to greet themselves, then the word is not really offensive, and everyone should say it.
