At least 23 people have been reported killed in multiple attacks on some communities in four local government areas of Benue State between Friday and Saturday.

Our correspondent learnt that the four LGAs attacked were Logo, Kwande, Ukum, and Guma.

According to sources, eight farmers were killed in the early hours of Saturday at Jootar in Ukum LGA.

It was gathered that the farmers who had slept over at Jootar woke up early Saturday morning and were going to the farm when they were butchered.

Our correspondent also learnt that the area, which is a border community between Taraba and Benue states, had been enmeshed in a crisis between the Tiv and Jukun.

“So, we can not say who were responsible for the killing of the eight farmers this morning, whether they were armed herders or Jukun people,” a source from Jootar who craved anonymity told our correspondent Saturday evening.

On Friday, some communities in Ayilamo in Logo LGA of the state were attacked by suspected armed herders, and nine people were reportedly killed.

Also, three people were reported to have been killed in Kwande LGA and another three in Guma LGA by suspected armed herders, bringing the total to 23 in the four LGAS

The Commissioner of Information, Mathew Abo, who confirmed the killing only in Jootar, Ukum LGA, said that the farmers were matchete early hours of Saturday when going to farm.

Abo said, “The report I heard is that eight farmers were killed in Jootar early hours this morning (Saturday) when they were going to farm.

We can not say for certain those responsible for the killing because the area where the farmers were killed is a border community between Tiv and Jukun people. And there had been crisis between the two ethnic groups.”

The commissioner could not confirm other killings in Guma, Logo, and Kwande as of the time of filing this report.

Efforts to confirm the development from the state command spokesperson, Catherine Anene, were not successful, as calls made to her cellphone were not responded to.

She also did not respond to text messages sent to her cellphone as of the time of filing this report.

Police is blind to the killings of herdsmen . The police is really useless and a waste of public trust and recognition.........we are in trouble and in dire need of sanity.

It's just unfortunate

Benue State has suffered so many killings that it is beyond belief

It's almost like the Federal Government is deaf to the cry of Benue

What can we do but pray for Benue

What actually amaze me in all these middle-belt killings is the fact that 26% of our armed forces (comprising of police, army(navy, airfoece), civil defence, immigration, prison, customs and fire service) are Benue state indegenes, 20% are from Kaduna state - especially Kaduna South, another 20% are from plateau and taraba states. there is hardly any family in the middle-belt that doesn't have one or more uniformed personnel in their family!

THAT MEANS 66% OF OUR ARMED FORCES ARE FROM THE MIDDLE-BELT!

AND YET WITH ALL THE ARMS AVAILABLE TO THEM BY VIRTUE OF THEIR PROFESSION, THEY STILL ALLOW THEMSELVES TO BE CANNON FODDERS AND SITTING DUCK FOR FULANI TERRORIST HEADSMEN!

Something is wrong somewhere.

This is pure genocide and it is interesting how the government both at the state and national levels are acting like they are not concerned.

Anytime fulani get BORED, they get their toys and go to their favorite playground.

it has become routine and the ones that even make it to the news is just a fraction of the total fulani "gameshow".

Make Benue people continue to dey look. If na to fucck now, you go see them in first position, but to fight their generational enemies is impossible for them. The children of those who killed your grandparents are also killing you and your children, continue to look. City Biy no send you, we are doing Owambe parties in Yoruba land everyday. You colluded with the core North and said there is only one indivisible North, enjoy the ride, or pick up arms and fight for your children’s children

The only option for slaves is to die for their masters and that's what they are doing.

It will take thousands of years to get it out of their memory even if you like give them the presidency, the killing will continue and they will do nothing.

This is not news, my interest is when Peter Obi will enter Benue. Soldiers must be deployed to resist any form of Peter Obi.

Quite unfortunate that an end to these madness is not in sight. Yet they say.. the primary function of a govt (that is alive) is safeguarding lives and properties of citizens.
2023 was a disease. 2027 may just be the antidote if we let it.

E surprise me oooo. That’s another reason why Tinubu appointed a Southern Kaduna Christian as the Chief of Defence Staff, someone whose generations have been killed by the core North over the decades, yet the Mumu no fit do anything tangible. Shey dem expect Tinubu to carry Juju and Yoruba hunters to gk fight for them ni?
