His Prime Minister is doing deals with Trump. I guess people that have to govern don't live in the world of fantasies. Maybe you should now direct your anger towards Starmer who went to do a trade deal with Trump

Mr Starmer is trying to protect the British workers and families but the American leader be damned if he tries to put American workers businesses and families first

Keir said on Thursday morning that the deal will help to deliver “security and renewal” for British workers, businesses and families.

The one thing that I found striking being on this site is that years after colonialism, Nigerians still have a colonized mindset .
Oh that’s for sure. We’re never gonna be free. At least not in my lifetime if I’m being honest with the way the things are.

The Nigerian measure of a good person is how well said person is able to abide by the colonial master’s rules. So I’m not holding my breath.

I think this is what we "used" to be. I think we tried to rectify that and we've reverted.

Yeah. You tried, and have now reverted somewhat. But as I tell a friend, you are a democracy. You get to change your minds every 4 years. And 'we the people' must experience to believe. Though experience seems down to interpretation these days. Or rather, perhaps people ignore their own experiences and just believe what they are told or choose to believe.

Can't wait for mid to see what you all decide. And I'm wondering how the choice of (maga or woke) pope would impact the future.

The UK has been desperate for a deal of this sort with the US since President Donald Trump unleashed his wave of global tariffs.

So have other countries. But it seems the UK has got there first - a significant achievement by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and his government.

Sir Keir has made a point of forging a warm relationship with Trump - warmer than many expected.

There has also been growing grumblings about what dividend he was receiving for his efforts, on trade, Ukraine and any number of other issues.

We UKanians already fight against our own bad chicken, and you think we'd accept junk chicken from USA? You must not know we Brits refuse to poison our children for profit, aside that Bentley is owned by Volkswagen AG, BMW owns the Rolls-Royce trademark. Aston Martin is currently owned by Canadian investor Lawrence Stroll, and Land Rover is owned by Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Motors, an Indian multinational conglomerate. Hardly the sort we'd sacrifice our children to, being we are a bit more socialist than American magacapitalists.

Starmer has no deal until he presents it in parliament and we decide if we want it.

"If the government is confident the agreement it has negotiated with Trump is in Britain's national interest, it should not be afraid to bring it before MPs."

Unless it's a secret deal of course, to be implemented in secret as smuggled chlorinated chicken.

The art of a deal

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer praised the deal with the U.S., calling it "truly historic" and touting the two countries' close alliance.

"We've always had a fair and balanced arrangement between our countries. This builds on that," he said.

Starmer, who called into Trump's news conference, also drew parallels to the deal being announced 80 years after Allied troops achieved victory in Europe during World War II.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick outlined some of the points in the trade agreement with the U.K. during Trump's Oval Office announcement.

"So here's what we've got," Lutnick said. "We've opened up new market access, ethanol, beef, machinery, all the agricultural products. They've agreed to open their markets, and that will add $5 billion of opportunity to American exporters."

Lutnick added that the U.K. will still be under the 10% baseline tariff that Trump has applied to dozens of countries. However, tariffs on vehicles will fall from 25% to 10% to match that baseline.

"They could send 100,000 cars into America and only pay a 10% tariff, and that protects their car industry," Lutnick said.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick also announced a major purchase of U.S. aircraft, saying "there's going to be an announcement that the U.K., they are buying $10 billion worth of Boeing planes later today."

Lutnick would not disclose which companies were involved, saying, "I'm going to let the ... airline announce it, because that's theirs to do it."

They are waiting on their media spin for the UK trade deal. I can help them get started

1. There was nothing major about the deal, UK was not really that important to US anyway.

2. The UK took advantage of Trump, they are not our biggest trade partner

3. Biden already agreed this same deal, Its the same deal Biden had in place, Nothing has changed

4. Trade deals are not even important anyway.

5. Trump signed the deal with the wrong hand or the wrong pen

6. Price of eggs, Maryland man, Wisconsin judge, Hamas protests, Hitler etc

when all fails, Attack the UK Prime minister for being spineless

The art of a deal

Dayo, we need more information to fully understand the benefits of this new trade deal for both countries.

From the little information you shared here, I can see that tariffs has come down seriously for UK autos and UK is opened to US machineries and all agricultural products. Was UK closed to all these in the past? And even if UK is just allowing this, market forces will still determine where UK importers will buy from. If it is cheaper and better to get it from or anywhere in Europe or China, UK importers will still not patronize US, except the deal forbids UK from importing from other places.

I see what UK stands to benefit with the lowered tariffs, from the little information here... but I am trying to understand the real gain in this new deal for US especially since the tariff will go down to 10% from 25% for all UK exports to US.

Please enlighten me.

The US maintains a 10% tariff on UK imports, suggesting that while the US gains significant concessions, it has not fully opened its market in return.
Overall, US benefits economically through better market access and lower UK tariffs since the pm agreed to lower tariffs on US goods from 5.1% to 1.8%, making US proucts more competitive in the UK market.

There is a huge improvement, even if the UK s for only 3% of US imports.

Congratulations to the First American Pope Francis Roberts.

A great choice. An American pope is likely to be heard louder than many others.

My friend Georgina Onuoha posted and I agree.

Let’s pray he will be as strong or even stronger advocate against injustice than pope Francis was.

It fills my heart with deep joy and renewed hope to know that our new Pope, Robert Prevost, is a man of moral conviction, comion, and courage. At first, I felt a weight in my spirit upon hearing he was American, fearing the influence of political agendas so often at odds with the Gospel of Christ. But reading his clear stance against injustice and his opposition to harmful policies reassured me that he is a shepherd who listens to the heart of God, not the noise of power.

If he has also raised his voice against the suffering of the innocent no matter where it happens, even in the face of global controversy then he stands not only as a leader of the Catholic Church, but as a beacon of truth in a world so hungry for light.

This is a victory for all of humanity for Catholics, Christians of every denomination, and people of conscience everywhere. In times where many claim the name of Christ but betray His message of mercy, humility, and love, it is a blessing to have a leader who reflects the heart of Jesus. Not a follower of political cults or nationalistic pride, but a servant of the Gospel.

May God grant Pope Robert Prevost wisdom, strength, and unwavering grace. And may we, too, rise with him in love, justice, and truth united not by the divisions of doctrine or nation, but by the unshakable call to love God and love one another.

To God be all the glory.

And he continues the message of Francis.

Here's my "story for this occasion". Basilico and Bemeruca I hope you are paying attention through your alt s.

Years back, my brother and I attended World Youth Day. Unfortunately my brother had a freak accident and had to have surgery. Our CYO went and we weren't with our parents. I was kind of worried and was in the hospital room with my brother. Word got back to our Cardinal who we knew well. He told us he would be coming to the hospital room to give my brother a blessing. And to everyone's surprise, in walks he and the Pope at the time and the Pope blessed my brother.

The Conservative Catholic Cardinals in the US are going to have ot do some soul searching as this seems to be a continuation of Pope Francis.
