1. where (not WHO) did this "specific technology" come from?

2. how was it deployed in nigeria?
GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication) originated in Europe in the early 1980s as a standardized pan-European digital mobile cellular radio system.

It was first deployed in Finland,1991.

Gradually rolled across the world.

Came to Nigeria in the early 2000s.

So, what exactly is your question about?

Olusegun Matthew Okikiola Obasanjo alone, because of the restart of Telecoms sector in 2001,and improvement it brought into our daily lives and business efficiency, reduction in travel time, GDP grew by 15.3%.

The Nigerian Economy took a 360 degree positive turnaround

Obasanjo achieved that and more. But these useless people who have absolutey nothing to offer except to improvish the Nigerian People and play nothing but ethnic politics.

Till tommorow,They cannot lace Obasanjo's shoes
Abacha gave the first licences in the mid 99s with the 090 series aka nought....nine ..,.nought

that is not what I asked you.

are you saying that it was in 2001 that GSM technology was invented and there was no evidence of GSM technology anywhere in the world before 2001?
Where in my write up did I say that?

Which part of emerging technology do you not understand?

It first started in 1991 in Finland and gradually got to other parts of the world within about a 10 year period.

Of course Africa is always the last to get such luxuries.

He be like say they want to tell us another story again o. The US first used mobile phones in 1973. Wè got ours 28years later. So why didnt wè get it earlier or two years later? Or you were in Kosovo when Abacha's minister of comminication once said "Telephone isnt for the poor"
Shuke

"The first public mobile phone call was made in the US on April 3, 1973, by Martin Cooper of Motorola."

GSM isn't so popular in the USA,they are majorly on CDMA band, that's why many US phones don't work here........ Nigeria was the first country to go full wireless and became a cases study for even the advanced countries as many thought it wasn't possible that we were going to crash soonest but here we are 25 years later.

Just for perspective we had satellite phones like Thuraya but were not affordable

So businesses and HNIs had hand held phones already before these ones came

Mobile phone calls in the 80's and 90's in Nigeria? Where? How? Abi landlines?

The GSM network was introduced to Nigeria in 2001 and not before. Before wè had only Landlines being controlled by Nitel

Not true, there had been mobile networks in Nigeria in the 90s.....Nokia and Motorola were the predominant phones that was also the era of fax machines and the 419 era......as early as 93,we already had it.

Then it was something else and not mobile phones. Because the fact of the matter is that it was May 6,2001 that mobile telephony came into Nigeria

There was, it was called Cellular or something, black heavy mobile phones that looks like TV/DSTV Remotes, but it is not GSM, the numbers started with 090

That Oyinbo have been enjoying it for years doesn't mean it was available to every backward region.

All this praise singing is ridiculous

He did not invent the mobile phone technology

We do not praise any president for being there when Land telephones, electricity came to Nigeria , When Television came, When Flushing toilets came , when water started flowing from taps, when the motor car came,

These are ubiquitous technological advancements. whose time has come

I really don’t know what Obj did to some of you to warrant the envy. Mobile phones have been around since the late 80’s to 1990’s. Obj wasn’t just the president in power when mobile telecommunications was rolled out but it was the idea of his istration to privatize a sector that was tied with inefficiency and corruption to open up the economy. He planned to do same for power after his success with telecommunications but unfortunately couldn’t succeed.

If you’re old enough you will only rich uncles and offices had Nitel line and people had given up on telecommunications as a dream despite it being available in western countries just like 24/7 electricity today.

The success in Nigeria and resulting effects on our GDP encouraged other African countries to adopt the script and successfully roll out GSM in their countries which started a continental revolution.

If it’s so easy then why can’t the present government recreate same success in one sector? After all electricity has been around since the 1920’s.

Please put some respect on Obj’s name and don’t downplay his role.

Good to see you boss. It's been a while I saw your post.

We had mobile multilinks, mobitel, intercelullar and others before GSM technology. There was cellular 090 too.I occassionally using the cloned one owned by a neighbour to make urgent calls when Nitel piers, cabinet, underground and other technical wahala show face.
Nitel technicians and extortion were 5&6.
