Children are the ones speaking jargon up there or let me just say igbo youths. Ngozi was minister when Nigeria was swimming in plenty amid high crude oil sales. Despite this excess money, she couldn't diversify the economy, and Nigeria just wasted the all the plenty rains days. Only good thing she did was to save as she had no idea on what to use the excess money to do. Poverty in Nigeria was very very high amid plentifullness. Minimum wage for workers was #7500. It was her time Idris Abdul Kareem sang the song "Nigeria Jagajaga", Blackface sang the song "Hardlife", Nice and 2shut sang the song "Make dem talk", African China sang the song "Mr President" and several other artistes expressed the unbearable state of the nation as at that time through their music. This same Ngozi came back again during Jonathan and even performed abysamlly lower to the extent of borrowing to pay workers salaries. No single achievement. Her incompetencv was exposed bcs during Jonathan period especially towards the end of his tenure, the only cash cow of the country OIL price slumped. She had at least an opportunity of 10 years to change Nigerias fortune as Finance Minister and Coordinating minister of the economy but she failed. She shamefully left the economy a monolith economy depending on only crude oil. You now want to compare that with someone who inherited a completely collapsed economy and within the shortest periods of two years has diversified the economy to Exportation, Tax and crude oil all competing same space in IGR. This is the first time effort is being made to diversify the economy using homegrown policies and the dude is pretty getting it. Wale removed fuel and dollar subsidies, Nigeria's growth killers that Ngozi abd the governments she served didn't have the spine to do? Why are u people so dumb and unappreciative? Bring Ngozi at this time of our nation after COVID 19 and with her IMF foreign based policy and see whether she will not be stoned to death. 2 Likes |

I totally agree with you. However, there are indices to measure the wealth and prosperity of nations per time and season. Indices like GDP, per Capita income, GNP, Product Manager Index (PMI) etc. The dimension of poverty under PBAT is at an excruciating dimension. An economist likened PBATs reforms to removing the tyres of a car while in motion. Poverty has been institutionalized as a weapon in Nigeria. ganilas007: |

I was a full grown adult in my thirties and can every bit of Okonjo Iweala's regime. You see, there are "local champions" and international stars, Wale Edun combined politics and technocratic experience whilst Okonjo Iweala was a core technocrat from the highest International Finance Agency in the world. Nigeria has N149trillion debt as at date, let Wale Edun negotiate or restructure the loan first then we will start from there. Hope you know the Nigerian Governors Forum took Okonjo Iweala to court on the Excess Crude initiative and the FG won. The Governors just wanted to spend and she stood her ground on the long term benefit. lailo: |

Both met a very bad situation but in the case of Okonjo Iweala some background work had been done earlier by the previous Finance minister Adamu Ciroma, she also had brilliant people to work with. Soludo was firstly OBJ's economic adviser before becoming CBN governor. Wale Edun was thrown directly into the thick of the mess and struggled. But he seems to be getting things done little by little now. But all in all, Okonjo Iweala especially under OBJ is head shoulders above Edun. 1 Like 1 Share |

Lanruze:I'm not saying she is not an international woman. Of course she is and that's while WTO made her a DG. But of what use is all that to Nigeria if she spent over 10 years as Finance minister and Coordinating minister of economy especially during our prosperity times and she couldn't turn Nigeria economy to world class level she claimed she represent. Nigeria generated so much during her time but where was the economy? Where was diversification? A world class economist who cant diversify the economy in over 10 years? Where are the railway, where are the super highways, where are the electric power generation? What of education? Where are the jobs for the teeming youths? What of healthcare services. Nothing to show despite being an international woman. Someone you called local is the one who has diversified our economy, debased it and is trying to build it gradually. Ngozi herself confessed before she left the stage that it will take Nigeria a consistent policy of at least 30 years to achieve stability in any attempt to diversify the economy. Sometimes homebase football players would bring trophy that foreign players can never achieve even if u used the best of them. Kiss the truth 2 Likes |

Lamasta: The NOI under OBJ differs from the NOI under GEJ. NOI under OBJ was brilliant and the best finance minister Nigeria ever had. With the very weak GEJ government, she was unable to implement any of her policies and reforms due to the corrupt and incompetent leadership of GEJ. Nigeria was living on high-priced crude oil exports and loans. Wale doesn't have that luxury because of the low crude oil exports and forward sales by the Bughari government. Wale's decision to remove fuel subsidies at a time when Nigeria's export earnings are at their lowest will have a significant impact on the Nigerian people. The decision to float the Naira, in my opinion, is questionable because there should always be some control. However, considering that the government had no funds to protect the Naira or even pay for imported products, I believe he made the right call. Tinubu government has failed to cut corruption or reduce government expenditure. |

The topic should have been is Wale Edu qualified to be Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iwuala's student? Who's Wale Edu to compare with Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iwuala, an economic technocrat and global economic leader. Without Dangote refinery Nigeria would have completely collapsed because of the terrible economic policies initiated by Edu and approved by T-PAIN.

004gist: First, getting a debt writeoff is akin to getting favours. You donāt need to work for it, you just ask. Second, comparing both economies is unfair to Wale. Nigeria population, problems and other economic factors were significantly better. 1 Like |

lailo:It is disheartening that a supposed educated adult wants to compare economics ministers in office and the metrics he adopted are what songs musicians sang in their tenure. No mention of macroeconomic indicators like inflation rate, budget financing performance, trade indices, real demand and consumption or household disposable income. Worse still, he completely faked a lie about the diversification of the economy when the faac allocation has been dropping since January this year in the back of decline in oil receipts Isn't this a shameful writeup? |
