Last week, two sisters started laying in the same spot. We had put soil in different cartons, in different positions in the shop, but they both chose to lay in the same box.

At first, one would make noise continuously when she sees the other trying to lay in the spot. Then they started laying side by side, in the same box. When the eggs were up to 10, one of the sisters took it upon herself to go through the 21 day process for both their eggs.

I've never seen anything like this before.

The two sisters were communicating

It only appeared as noise to you because of the limitation of your senses. Same way dogs barking appears as noise to us.

Because we can't hear it doesn't mean it's not there.

If mankind can make devices to correct vision deficiency by way of eye glasses, then mankind should also be able to make devices to correct hearing deficiency... making what cannot be perceived, to be.
Same way blurry vision appears perfect with eye glasses.
Blurry noise can appear perfect with ear glasses.

Visible light and sound are same. Just difference in frequency and other factors

https://nairaland.unblockandhide.com/8332904/ear-glasses#133978619

Imagine you could hear your chickens talk. You'll know exactly what to feed them to grow healthy. You'll know how to take proper care of them because they'll tell you how to do so, naturally, instead of depending on man's science which is devoid of life most of the time cry

Deal with them ooo.
kay29000:

Yeah.

The cats struck overnight. I have to be very careful from now on. I'm even thinking of getting a dog, cos the wild cats are numerous on my street. They have been here for decades, even before we moved in.

33 years ago somewhere in Amukoko area. I was like 10yr old then I love anything fowl rearing these bandits cats tore my cage and waste all my chicken. I consulted my class mates they gave advice I bought suya . Grind all the mixture of drugs . Sew the suya and place all chemical in it. Few days later all the wild cats are gone. I no dey look for trouble but when u find me I no dey run..quote author=Lukuluku69 post=134545386]

One night visit by a Cat can undo 3 months of diligent work. I a Day like that. All was fine the night before, then the night visit by this Cat!

It took 6-7 3 months old chicks. You know with their poor nightly sights, they stood no chance. Dismembered them all right in my compound.

I used poison. It didn't work. Set traps, no luck either. So, I just improve on the shed security.

Dogs might help but pray that you won't get one that eat Chickens and chics too.[/quote]

It is not uncommon though. I have had dozens of instances as this. Some are not even sisters but choose to lay their eggs together.

If you want them to brood together, expand the laying area to accommodate two brooding hens and see them raise the chicks together.

No pecking or any aggressive behavior towards the chicks as the two hens believe all the chicks are her's.

I am sure you are giving them the waste left during Pap/Ogi processing?

It will kill them with what looks like coccidiosis. I have lost dozens before an old lady told me to stop.

Even wet Maize kill chickens especially young ones .

If you must feed them with it, sun dry it.

Stop feeding them waste from Pap/Ogi processing. It kills.

Even Rams and goats direct from the North not properly acclamatized will die from that thing.

Sun dry it before feeding them with it.

Whoa! I didn't know this. A lady suggested we start feeding them with waste from pap and the chickens didn't eat it. They would taste it, shake their heads and walk away. Thank God we stopped trying to make the eat it.

Thank God they didn't eat it. It will kill them off especially between 2 weeks old to 6 weeks old with a coccidiosis like symptoms.

They were shaking their heads because the one you gave them is fermented as such smells like poo just as they shake their heads because when they go near their own poop.

That thing kill Rams and goats too. Their tummy will just be bloated and a painful slow death ensue.

New mother hen out with her 7 chicks.

I appreciate your efforts in your farming process but You need to apply the method of preserving and multiplying on your process. I've been into farming like you are doing since 2016.
The moment your mother hen hatch the eggs, you will pack the chicks and put them in separate place for brooding as if you are doing broiler day old brooding. you will feed them packed feed for like 2 months before releasing them into the garden.
The mother will start to lay new eggs in another 3 weeks and you repeat the cycle like that.
This will help you prevent them from predators like rat,cat and eagles.

Great idea, but can't work for me. I do this at my parents place, and I come and go as I have my own place. My mom can do just so little. So far so good, we are okay with the way things are going. It's really not for monetary gains at this point. We just love how we have created a sort of natural habitat for the chickens to grow and multiply. What we do at least is lock them up from 7pm to 7 am, to protect them from land prey. And we have a scarecrow in the garden to prevent birds of prey.

Thanks for your comment though, cos I'm sure someone would learn from it.
