Series just 2 s as Max pv for 24v powmr is 105v.

Sorry, that would mean 2 in series and I will discard the 3rd one?
Also, is there a controller you can recommend to accommodate all?

Guys just a quick question pls. I’m still learning grin

I’ve observed that a lot of suggestions here tells people to series their s (even for a 12V system) which I know increases the voltage and keeps a constant current.

For example, someone suggested a series connection for 3 s likely to have a short circuit voltage of 48V and above for a 24V system. This is more like 144V (I.e 48V*3). Sorry, but is this voltage not too much for a 24V system?

Or Will the controller limit the input voltage of about 144V coming from the to the required charging voltage of 27V-28V for the system?

If yes, then what happens to the other voltage? Is it wasted? If 28V is what is being used for charging the voltage and the constant current in the system is 13Amps, it means that the power from a supposed of 1872Watts (I.e 144V * 13Amps) is actually 364Watts (I.e 28V * 13Amps).

Please someone should kindly educate me on this, it’s interesting to know. Thanks.

The advice was given because they have MPPT controllers.

Your thinking and calculations are largely right but you are forgetting that an MPPT works by lowering voltage and converting it into required amperage. So keeping it simple and going back to the example you chose:

"supposed of 1872Watts (I.e 144V * 13Amps) is actually 1872 Watts (I.e 28V * 66.8Amps) (all in theory oo, and obviously MPPT must be rated over 60 amps) "

So the the angle you missed is the fact that the excess voltage is being converted into increased amperage by the MPPT. PWM controllers do not have this ability.

Wow, very satisfying to realize this. Now I understand. Thanks man.

Tricky. They can pump in the afternoon to handle the evening usage but the morning one has to be handled entirely by batteries.

Also sumos are tricky, since most draw a lot more than their rated output. For example, this 12HP is about 9kw on paper but in real life could be as much as 15kw.

What I'd tell you is to go there and get actual real life data on

- Power draw on each sumo
- How long it takes to pump full

You need a watt/clamp meter for the first one.

Their best approach is to get appropriate number and sizes of storage tanks and pump water exclusively during the day. Get plenty of solar power and get a little lithium battery to ensure smooth power during the day.

Yeah, it may be better than trying to pump water strictly off batteries in the morning.

That said, it all depends on how much water is used. It's a question of cost of batteries vs cost of buying new tanks plus building the structures to keep the tanks on.

Batteries are relatively cheap these days and something like 45-60kwh of batteries should be adequate in the worst case scenario. That can be had for under 8m these days.

Either way, this entire project is probably going to cost close to 20m.

Good morning bosses in the house. Please i need your input on this.
There is a boarding school that called me that they need an solar system that can power their water pump everyday.
They have 4 water Sumos of each 3Hp totalling 12Hp. Please i want to know the size of Battery bank, Solar s and inverter to use for this project.
Note:, they use water every morning before they go for classes, also evening time when school closes. On weekends, they use it mostly for washing of clothes and other hostels chores.

They should just get bigger tanks. That would be the most cost effective choice

Such controllers wont come cheap; you will be looking at 100amp to 120amp. Best thing is to buy a single unit of more and do your connection as 2s2p

Pumping during the day.
You will need to consider if they have the structure to accommodate the tank.

By the way that will imply more energy to be spent pumping the water.

They might not even have water when it's needed the most because electricity might not be available.

DC pump/jacking pump grin Na the solution

Good afternoon, please how effective are these DC solar pump and what is the idea of the price?

I have a friend that has a solar system that is okay for their basic needs, their only present challenge is pumping of water for their home use and for their fish pond.

Their pumping machine is 1 hp.

Most times the cost of setting up a regular solar installation is far below the cost of procurement a solar gen.
However , the solar gen gives room for ease of mobility and requires very easy set up. Infact a DIY is almost what's needed!

With a little bit of ingenuity, one can actually pack individual devices into an all in one package.

Valto has packaged something like that before.

A sibling of mine packed 1.8kw, 1.28kwh, 60a MPPT charge controller into an all in one for an elderly family member of mine; all the major parts were purchased from linnov here. He can testify.

Someone advised you to have more storage tanks and pump water during the day for their use, and I agree.

I think it's cheaper to store water than energy. Plus you can save more by using a pressure pump to send water to higher floors instead of constructing huge, expensive structures to hoist tanks up. Whatever energy is left after filling the tanks should be enough to operate the pump.
