That’s because he (Tinubu) hails from one of the distinct cultural groups (the Yoruba group) the writer is talking about and this very group doesn’t discriminate against themselves; once you’re Yoruba, the State you come from becomes secondary (I know you’re surprised because no other region in Nigeria has this civility) grin. It’s not that Tinubu went to govern another state belonging to an entirely different cultural group. A Yoruba woman from Oyo marrying another Yoruba man from Benin republic (Egun) doesn’t take away her being Yoruba

The writer said vote in your state of origin not tribe of origin.Make una stand one place.

The bill makes sense to enhance national unity but tribalists are the ones who wouldn't like it. Are you supposed to be a settler in your own country when you move to another state?

Words like Tribalist, anti-Semitism, Islamaphobia and the rest doesn't move me,
It's a useless bill that deserves to be dismissed on arrival!

The bill makes sense and tribalists are the ones who are against it. It will actually help to eliminate tribalism in the long run.

How will the bill eliminate tribalism? undecided cool

Again, the Yorubas’ civility cuts across state and this is something you can’t help but appreciate about the Yoruba culture. We are not demarcated by anything, once you are Yoruba, nobody cares about where exactly you come from as everyone in Yoruba land traces their culture to a common root, Ife. It will take 30000 years for the igbos (in particular) to achieve this. Bianca Ojukwu was not even allowed to represent her late husband’s people in the senate 😩😂

The Igbos and cultural identity theft are five and six, see it in their women, just to bear your name and because they like your culture soo much that they wish they were you and they will try every means to manipulate the system, shan fi sheyin ni
One IMO lady said she was pregnant for my friend, an Ekiti State indigene sometimes ago she ran away with the pregnancy so he won't suggest an abortion according to her, just to resurface after three years with a girl child after given her all the Yoruba names of this life including Ade (a name only for the royal family)

Politics aside the bill make a lot sense

Until Fulani (herdsmen) takeover your lands, become indigenes, run for office and use external forces to win and then do their ethnic cleansing in a higher level.

Be there.

Where you live, work and pay tax is your home that is the rule all over the world the reason why a Yoruba woman is a potential PM of UK.
Also millions of Igbos who lives in Yoruba land are added to the population of their host during census.

The Benjamin Kalu guy is a big m0ron.. one that hasn't learnt a thing from history.

that nonsense bill and watch Nigeria go up in flames.. you think Yorubas will sit and fold arms while an outsider from say South East starts demanding for indigene rights in Yorubaland?
That greed and covetous nature is what is killing the Igbos daily in Nigeria.. ojukokoro, barawo banza will be their final undoing.

You have your own lands where you've refused to stay and develop, instead you're busy coveting over people's lands and heritage simply because you feel you're smart when infact you're the biggest fo0ls on the planet.

It's the reason they killed regional government through Aguiyi Ironsi and introduced unitary system in the 60s'.. See where we are as a nation today, stagnation, blo0dshed, insecurity, bitterness everywhere.

With that bill, Fulanis will automatically claim indigenship of east and west lands and they will ride on that law to sack every Igbos and most Yorubas from their lands.

I pray the bill is ed n I can bet in d next 10 years Igbos will come back crying that it should b reversed.

They are myopic that they are eyeing Lagos not knowing fulanis are eyeing their region

I can bet in d next 10 years all d fulanis in niger Republic will relocate to south east n one uncircumcised aboki from futa jalon will sponsor one of them n then we will have danjuma Umar as governor of anambara

That time Igbos won't b governor in Lagos n they would have lost their region

Myopic people
You're talking about the Igbos and you think this jargon is possible?

Then why are Tinubu's from other Yoruba states ruling Lagos state or it does not apply to Lagos?

They are all fellow Yorubas from the same region.....Get it?

Residents from different regions are opposing the bill while remaining outside their respective areas. In contrast, those from your region are eager for its age at any cost. What drives this desire? cool

Traditional institutions and cultural leaders must rise in defence of indigenous identity.

They can never rise, politics don spoil their brain. Come to think of it why is it only the Yoruba's that always feels such bill is targeted against them, their cultural values or their ethnicity? For Christ sake make una let person hear word nor be only una dey Nigeria.
Ttalk: 4:39am On Apr 17
Nefort:

Exactly. It is now that I can see that Nigeria is not a country if people are opposed to this bill to enhance national unity. We just are just deceiving ourselves. How can you be in your country and still be a settler when you move to a different area inside the same country?

That is why it is called a country and not a nation.

How come many of you just come online with zero knowledge of issue of discussion. Shame

People like you and the stupid writer are willing to be citizens of USA if given the opportunities, or you'll celebrate your own being citizen of united States by virtue of residency, but those born in your community or lived there for decades can't be fully seen as citizens.

Southerners are opposed to it.

For example, I have resided in my current locale for over a decade; I have never perceived any compelling reason to identify as an indigene.

It simply defies logic to me.

Why are you so resolutely intent on obtaining approval for this legislation?
