The Irigwe nation, Nigerian tribe in Plateau State, has suffered 1,107 deaths and the destruction of 27,330 farms since 2001 as violence continues to ravage their communities.

Despite numerous peace efforts and interventions by both Federal and State Governments, killings and attacks have persisted, with the latest incident occurring on April 2, 2025 claimed the life of 33-year-old Dewi Terry Nah, who was stabbed to death near the Twin Hill Area between Jebbu-Miango and Miango Town in Plateau State.

The Irigwe people in Plateau State are found in Kwall and Miango Towns in Bassa and Jos North Local Government Areas of Plateau State, North Central Nigeria. They are predominantly agrarian and skilled in various trades, but have trapped in a cycle of violence that began in 2001 following the brutal murder of a prominent elder and his family by suspected herders.

In a statement signed by Daniel Gya, President of the Irigwe Traditional Council; Danjuma Auta, General Secretary and Samuel Jugo David, Public Relations Officer, made available to Journalists at the weekend in Jos, the Community said since then the Area had been plagued by attacks on farmers and farms as well as ambushes on individuals, causing widespread insecurity.

“According to research conducted by Mr. Barrie, from 2001 to March 2025, a total of 2,866 incidents, 1,107 deaths, 412 injuries, 2 rapes, 20,836 rooms destroyed, 742 barns and 27,330 farms were recorded. Most of the victims are languishing in abject poverty, unable to fend for their families at the time of this report”, the statement noted.

The statement added that herders had been largely responsible for the violence, which escalated from ambushes and crop destruction to killings with firearms, beginning in 2025.

The Community explained that one of the deadliest attacks occurred on December 22, 2024, in Ri Do (Gidan Ado), where 14 people, including a pregnant woman and a one-year-old child, were killed despite the proximity of a security checkpoint. The incident, according to them also left two others severely injured, highlighting the ineffectiveness of existing security measures.

“Following the attack, AE Abubakar, the then General Officer Commanding 3 Division visited the Area, offering condolences and promising to bring the perpetrators to justice.

“Between January and March 2025, there have been 58 incidents, resulting in eight deaths, eight injuries, and the destruction of more than 50 farms. The situation has reached a crisis point, with many families left in poverty and unable to provide for their basic needs. The destruction of farmlands has further devastated the Irigwe Community, who rely heavily on agriculture for their livelihoods”, the statement added.

The statement stated that in response to the ongoing violence, the Irigwe Traditional Council and the Irigwe Development Association (IDA) had repeatedly called for action from both the Federal and Plateau State Governments.

The Irigwe Traditional Council complained that despite the g of a Peace Pact in 2022 and the formation of a Peace Implementation Committee in 2024, sporadic skirmishes continued to plague the Area undermining the efforts made by concerned stakeholders.

The Council said the Plateau State Government led by Governor Caleb Mutfwang, promised to establish a Mobile Police Barracks in the Area to bolster security. However, the people of Irigwe remain skeptical, fearing that without decisive action, their Community may be pushed to the brink of extinction.

The Council however appealed to the Authorities to intervene and prevent further bloodshed, warning that continued violence might force them to resort to self-defence.

The community therefore called for a united effort to bring an end to the violence with a fear that if peace was not restored soon, their ancestral land would be lost forever.

This is one of the many sorry and sad history of this nation. People are being maimed and killed and communities are being possessed by these marauding and killer fulanis while the govt of the day kept on fiddling.

The sad part is that Plateau state is one of the states with strong military presence in the military history of Nigeria. The likes of Gen Yakubu Gowon/Jeremiah Useni, late Gen Domkat Bali/ John Shagaya,

Surprisingly, the 3rd Amour Division base - Maxewell Khobe Cantonment is @ a radius from this community in Rukuba area of Bassa LGA. Why is the governor thinking of a mobile police barracks? How come atrocious and treasonable elements are on this dastard annihilation drive?

I Kent Academy. The Irigwe people in Miango is mainly an agrarian community going about their peaceful life in Bassa LGA of Plateau state. They cultivate food crops especially the "acha" grain that is one of the local staple food.

So they as well as other distraughted ethnic nationals don't deserve this barbaric ethnic genocide and cleansing. For God's sake Nigeria should reconsider its failed nationhood.

These are clear signs that there's no love in this country. Why would you want to kill your neighbour if you genuinely love them?

This here is the real genocide!
This is how terrorists act when they aim to erase and replace a people. They carry out mass killings of a specific group. Later, when the original people resist, like Israel fighting invaders and illegal occupiers, those who ignore history wrongly call self-defense "genocide."

The terrorists keep attacking until they bring in their own people, take over the land, and rename it. They then claim it as theirs, leaving the true owners as a powerless minority. By changing the population, they erase the natives until the world forgets them. This has been the pattern of Islamist groups throughout history, used against Christians, Jews, and others. If not resisted, they use their growing numbers to seize land.

Islamist like pillager love to scream 'genocide' when the owners of the land finally fight back. They want you to sit quietly like a lamb while they butcher your people and steal your land, until you’re nothing but a helpless minority in your own country.

Israel fought and is crushing these invaders, just like every nation should. Ukraine isn’t backing down either. Don’t fall for their fake tears when they whine about 'genocide' the second you start kicking them out of your homeland. Fight or disappear, it’s that simple.

Perhaps dominique, who s Hamas terrorists, also backs their efforts to remove the indigenous people. After all, she claims Hamas and the so-called Palestinians are native to a land that was never theirs. So I ask Dominique: If, in the future, these people fight back and push out the terrorists, just as Israel is doing now, would you call their self-defense 'genocide' too? Madridguy, we could use your usual noise here as well.

One Nigeria given as an excuse to cause extinction of minorities. We are in a country where state police is forbidden and self defense is seen as criminal and an act of jungle justice.

A community is at the edge of extinction. The reasonable thing to do is to ban cattle and herdsmen activities in that place to prevent it from happening. But government will say NO with the excuse that since Nigeria is one, freedom of movement of every one including cattle and herdsmen should not be restricted.
Evil is where places that have been sacked and at the edge of extinction have been renamed by their invaders with the government given them full recognition by allowing elections to happen in those places and not doing the needful.
Evil is when none of this villains has ever been arrested, prosecuted and jailed for their crimes.

Govt should be bold enough to implement complete ban on open grazing, as obtainable in civilised countries.

Haaa. Is this in Nigeria or Somalia? Seriously, we don't have a leader. Tinubu is not the only one to take this blame though but as a commander in chief, he's failed. The Plateau governor should just be impeached.

A peace pact is usually an agreement between at least two parties. This means they know the part(y)(ies) involved in their attacks. Why not bring them to book?

I believe if the government isn’t ready, there should be a few well to-do individuals that can sponsor protection and defence mechanisms in this Irigwe.
This is why you can’t mess with the Igbos on their land. This is also why you can’t mess with the Hausa/Fulanis even outside their own land.

Yorubas and other tribes need to strengthen themselves and have defence mechanisms if not, genocide is imminent!

When animals are endangered and going to extinction, the whole world goes crazy

Now a human tribe is going into extinction and everywhere looks normal

Benue people, you can’t have a constant threat and watch yourself perish without fighting back…
Even if they defeat you, make them go through hell and not just easy… before someone ends you, make life unbearable for them too…

President Tinubu and their governor should be held responsible. You don't have business in governance if you cannot defend people's life. I Tinubu but he needs to do something about this barbaric act.

The question now is; who are the people killing the irigwe people n trying to put them to extinction? Is it the fulani people or the herdsmen? Why hasn't a police post be planted there? Why are our leaders keeping quite until a full blown massacre occurs before they will say something..not as if they wil even take action since they know its the fulani herdsmen doing all this, instead dem go begin probe .... of inquiry....onsite assessment etc...people don die go oo
What a country we find ourselves!

You get the drill.

The idea is to eventually turn Nigeria to an Islamic Sultanate.

What business does a secular nation like Nigeria have with being a member of the OIC?

What business does Nigeria have with Muslim/Muslim ticket?

Why would Nigeria be operating the Shari'a constitution alongside a secular constitution?

Na blindness dey kill us.
