E just deh unfortunate seh the country deh drift mode๐Ÿค”
My oga, I tire for the government.

I used to run travel a lot by road a few years ago. Those roads are awful. Some parts of the so called federal roads are death traps. From Ilorin,to Ibadan, to Benin, to Bayelsa, to Minna. Awful roads, chief.

And many other roads ooo. But they won't do that. Instead, na coastal road Dem face. For trillions of naira. Ahhahn! What wickedness.

While the Lagos/Calabar coastal road would be an interesting sight, I have many problems with it:

1) The government should first tidy up federal roads and make them drivable and safe. I've been to many parts of this country, and our federal roads are a deathtrap. Roads should be easily drivable, without senseless potholes.

Your statement about roads being bad and this road being constructed makes no sense, this is a new route, a road that saves travel time, and connect south, east, North on a straight line...the governors with so much money should be fixing those roads that es through their states.

The role of the federal government is to fix federal roads. E no too hard.

Why construct a new road for north of 3trn rather than repair existing ones? Make it make sense.

At no time will any project of this scale not evoke questions, complaints and condemnation (in some cases). This is where the will of vision sets in - one that looks beyond tofay to the future. America built roads all over the huge mass of land - they looked ahead and didn't import these little, though valid sentiments, into what would be the I-10, I-20s of today. If you look at the vast road network of the US, you will see and understshd why this is as needed as d. We can't only be living for now or be working like locomotives - looking for perfection. Imagine all the states that this road is crossing through and how it it will impact logistics in 10 years time if I can do Calabar in 6 hours from Lagos. It's bigger than these issues you raise.

2) Will this road be completed on time? I have a strong feeling that this road will eventually be a white elephant project that won't be completed in the next 10 years. Investing billions on a long stretch of road while the existing ones are an eyesore is ridiculous to me.

3) Why wasn't this project bid for? Why was it awarded without other construction companies submitting their bid? Sounds very tyrannical and impulsive. For a project this large, and this expensive, there should have been a fair bidding process.

4) Why are we spending so so so much on a road, when we have other more pressing issues? An estimated cost of more than 3tr is to be spent on this road. Why? Why not spend same money on kickstarting 24/7 electricity? Why not invest it in interstate security, so that kidnapping would be a thing of the past? Why not spread the money across other more important projects?

So many questions, so little answers. I have many reservations.

I was going to call you another bitterleaf but you already warned everyone not to abuse you!

In response to your concerns;
1. Government is in continuum, rehabilitation of existing roads is ongoing. The ongoing new roads in all 6 geopolitical zones of the country is PBAT's legacy project. You can educate yourself more on these projects through Umahi's press briefings.

2. The projects are scalable, meaning each completed section can be put to immediate use. 30km that will be commissioned this May 29, will ease tremendous traffic on the lekki corridor and bring back beach goers and tourism to that axis. Check numerous YouTube videos to see for yourself.

3. Every government does single source for projects of huge exigencies. OBJ gave Lagos Ibadan express road to Bi-Courtney under competitive bidding. For 10 years the company did nothing. Until Jonathan cancelled and awarded to 2 consortium of JB and RCC. Single sourcing.

4. Anytime road infrastructure is done in an underdeveloped area, value of land in that area goes up. Do you know why? More properties are quickly developed in that area boosting economic activities immensely. Watch the YouTube video of the costal road to give you an idea of the vast economic activities that will be unleashed in that region. If you can afford it, invest in that region now! You will thank me later.

5. Security is the fabric of every society, ours is peculiar. I have said it before, the Edo hausa hunters lynching is a reflection of where we are at the moment. Solutions cannot be all kinetic.

6. Electricity ecosystem is being reworked. Similar to what OBJ did with telcom, to be mostly private sector driven. We will get there as well.

Happy to engage in a reasonable argument here.

Your statement about other roads being bad and this one being constructed is senseless, millions that live along that corridor appreciate the road, it saves travel time and reduce cost of travel, this is a new road, we never had a road that connects Nigeria so easy, I pray the road finishes timely, it will boost economic drive and movement...and it's a safer road to travel on.

The road is not for North, it connects vi to Epe, connect Lagos to South South and southeast, the road benefits all.

Try to talk with sense, even though you think the road has no benefit for you, it has benefit for millions of Nigerians, don't always be myopic.

Not dragging tribalism into this but if your papa could solve a quarter of these problems, he would have ended at least A GOVERNOR.

One of the failures which your father probably ed to you is the INABILITY NOT TO RESEARCH OR CHECK FOR FACTS. If you had checked for facts, you'll know that government just completed the Lafia-Akwanga-Makurdi Rd and is akready working on the Makurdi-Otukpo-Anyigba rd which has been dead since the time of Obasanjo and David Mark. Do your checks well, many project which were left dormant these past years are now under serious construction.

The problem with some of you is your believe in MEDIOCRE POLITICIANS.
