Wahala! This wuna bill seems to raise more issues than it addresses. We no master President level finish, wuna want come add Prime Minister for this unbalanced equation.

Our political parties are ideologically agnostic; campaigns are not issue-based. There's no difference between PDP and APC as far as traditional political left and right are concerned because they're not essentially organized around beliefs apart from their vested interests and e mi lo kan mentality.

How will the Prime Minister emerge? Will he/she be the leader of the majority party in the National Assembly? Imagine Akpabio as Prime Minister or Gandollar grin grin grin LWKMD!

These women slots wuna want create—how dem go take fill am? Will they have constituencies? If yes, will the law force a woman over the constituents? If no, how is it democratic to have a representative in parliament without constituents? Who is she representing? If you say women, are they special citizens to have special gender-based representation?

There are better bills that these lawmakers can that will favour the poor masses but rather prefer to bills that will favour their fellow rich people.
AKAyomide(m): 6:53pm On Mar 27
This is the wrong bill honestly! It will create an ethnicity problem in domination at the House of Representatives, and limit people from other regions living in the region will be created their political liberty. Imagine the number of seats that will be located in the northern region in the House of Representatives, the seats will be more than the other regions and it will lead to the creation of regional political parties such as was in the Independence Constitution and republican constitution of 1963 which gives northern region maximum seats than the southern parts. Imagine that all the seats in the northern region were won by one political party then the party forms the government and a prime minister. Then this system of government will create a fear of domination to the minority so they will agitate for another system of government to suit them

The NAS thinks they can fool everyone, sudden bills everywhere after sharing constituency fund

Una dey really dey work on fund , that's what the NAS want
saintmm(m): 7:12pm On Mar 27
That is a sly strategy for north to remain in power permanently.
They have the numbers in both chambers, they have the political unity, they will simply look for a useful idiot region per time to get the spread, which they will always get per cycle.

So, regional government with full resource control at the regional level will be a way out of we will be getting a prime minister
Ngozi123(f): 7:15pm On Mar 27
It looks like Tinubu is trying restructure the country back to regionalism.

If he thinks that's the answer to all of Nigeria's problems then he better think again.

These fools here saying they do not want parliamentary system here fail to realize

1. There will be a shadow cabinet that means, the opposition will be payed and politicians will be more relaxed not to defect to ruling party

2, There will be robust debates always before money is spent and no one President can capture all the arms of government as we see now

3. Elections will be cheaper to conduct because you are only focused on your federal constituency and not the whole country

4. This will attract the best and the brightest of the society to represent their people - Drug lords and criminals wont make it there

5. The shadow cabinet brings in a better opposition not like what we see now where politicians only wait for the next election

6. The Prime Minister is the Head of Government and the President has powers too to check mate the Legislative arm so there is balance

7. It is not a winner takes it all situation - coalitions exist and every party tries to outperform the other to gain the people consent always

8. The President and the Prime Minister (who are of different parties must work together) not One man becoming a King over all

9. Tribal Marginalization will reduce as at least 95% of all tribes will have a chance to seat at the Federal Parliament with their Representatives

10. The Institutions like INEC, Police, Army , CBN etc are stronger in Parliamentary systems due to strong oversights.

It was during Parliamentary system we had 23 years old Matthew Mbu become a Federal Minister in this Nigeria - Can that happen today?

With Hundreds of Billions of Naira required to contest Presidential election ? so when that All powerful President emerges, why will he

appoint any 23- year old who did not contribute something financially substantial to his campaign as a Minister ahead of other money bags?

But if a 23- year old wins to represents his/ her Federal Constituency in the Parliament, he /she stands a chance of becoming a Minister

You see - every youth in this country need to the Westminster system - as it makes more sense than the Presidential System!

Another increment to the cost of governance we ought to bring down.

On the contrary- it reduces the cost of governance as the Ministers will be elected of parliament- not just anyone from the street because he us a friend of the President, so the likes of Betta Edu who embezzled billions of naira would not have been Ministers in the first place

How will I describe this law makers... they're like Southampton wearing real Madrid jersey... they're still Southampton...

They're actually discussing a good and significant Bill but they lack, integrity, boldness, courage, wisdom, ability, capacity and selfless will to make it a reality, it's just a waste of time
Blessed4sure: 7:25pm On Mar 27
Alright, thank you

I think that's what every well-meaning Nigeria should fight for.

It could help curb the unhealthy competition for power, and the toxicity and suspicion among the tribes.

Nigerians almost forgot their problems as the HOR and Senate are keeping them engaged everyday. Amazing to be honest.

Thanks for that question

The Parliamentary System aka Westminster system of Government is clear cut

It has very little chances of being bastardized like the Presidential system, because —- No matter how rich or powerful you think you are, your election is only decided in your federal
constituency- That was applied during the IBB transition program called “Option A4”

The likes of General Yakubu Gowon could not make it past their own Local Government Area

So, it is a beautiful thing… there must be an official opposition party and shadow cabinet and the federal government must fund them
to offer robust opposition - and they will do it easily because they want power too, the opposition can easily become the main if major coalitions disintegrates and new aliances are formed and new seats are won by new parties so everyone in on their toes

Government can change easily when things ate not foinf well unlike the Presidential system where everyone is stuck with a bad leader for 4 to 8 years, not so with the Parliamentary system

A simple vote of “No Confidence” by the parliament forces the Prime Minister and his cabinet to resign. With new coalitions being formed.. the opposition can take power easily

And the sweet part is that the President alone can dissolve the Parliament and call for elections so that of the Parliament can go back and teat their popularity with their constituency- Also the appointment of the President is ratified by the Prime Minister - you see everyone checks each other

So the Ptime Minister is a member of parliament by law so he or she is careful too not to abuse power… Just imagine if every election in Nigeria is betwen candidates in only 3 local government areas called a Federal Consistency- The comduxt of elections will be easier and the leaders will be held able easily.
