Nostalgic memories. I watching all the male wrestlers on TV back in the late 80s

Growing up,

I knew one local boxer who decided to add juju to his boxing career. He defeated everyone around him. In fact, he was so good the local people would bet their life savings on because he'd actually win. And he always won.

In fact, he started to win the title of a Samson in the village and was feared like Okonkwo of Achebe. He also got all the femme fatales. No one knew his power wasn't in his dreadlocks like Samson.. and you know, as his name turned out to be Ogbuagu (meaning: Lion Killer), it meant the end of competitors.

During matches, you dare not hail him with the name Ogbuagu! Ogbuagu! He would nearly kill his opponent! Ha! And if en come bi female voice dey hail am, just go and price a coffin. That's how he damaged one of his opponent's spinal cord! And you know the irony? The village WWE had no standby doctors to correct fractures, dislocations etc..so you'll carry your cross, and your family will carry it with you like Joseph of Arimathea. And because of the shame of losing and the stigma of being called a loser, you'll keep fighting...until dem finally send you to coma, or kpai you. Chuckles.

He was feared more than Covid-19. You hit him, you fall. He hits you, you enter coma! It's a two-way deathbed! Juju was working well!

He grew so quick because of his undefeated streak so he was sent abroad to see if he'd qualify to feature in bigger shows...na so this my man carry en juju for pocket travel.

Match don set naw, en and oyibo man enter. Trust guy man naw, en don wake en juju feed am well so he'd create an impression...cos as they say, first impression matters. Na so oyibo man rush am with four jabs and one uppercut, na so my guy shout "Ibeku leeee!" En run commot for ring. Manager rush meet am say wetin happen make en enter back say na money dey count. En no gree enter ring dey scream "na hand this person use dey hit me like this or na engine block?" As in e get the kind beating dem give am, juju jejely just comot the body go rest before dem kill am.

Na so my guy from heavyweight champion become Palm Tree cutter for village until his late travels to the neither world.

Chuckles..

Does it mean that power Mike was doing the same thing that these current clowns at WWE are doing in the name of wrestling nowadays?

Okonkwo Asah dedicated a song to power Mike

That was after power Mike destroyed a Greek Boxer in Enugu. The match had prominent people like Chief Vincent Mgbajiaka, Christian Nwogboigwe, Ekene dili chukwu( Transport millionaire ) and Seven Seven himself as spectators

Nigeria is a wonderful nation, and I’m truly proud to be a Nigerian. I sincerely hope to see the country regain its greatness.

But we NOW know wrestling is fake and pre-arranged and all these "world champions" were never wirkd champions at all, including Power Mike. It was just entertainment like a comedy skit.
Nigerians are so gullible

OP Naptun welldone for such comprehensive and thorough job you have done with this piece, you deserve a standing ovation, there has been countless times that I want to quit nairaland because of the level of abuses, hatred and ignorance by people but people like you are the reason we are still here, please kindly look into other areas that is crying for knowledge and post at least a story monthly, if you do then you will in no time be crowned as the most prolific and followed nairalander

That was in the 1990s. He came after the wrestlers that I wrote about. This thread is about wrestling legends of the 1970s and 1980s.
