Bill to Remove Immunity for Vice President and Governors es Second Reading

A bill seeking to strip the vice president, governors, and their deputies of constitutional immunity has ed its second reading in the House of Representatives.

The proposed amendment aims to strengthen ability, curb corruption, and eliminate impunity in public office.

The bill is part of a broader constitutional review process, with 42 amendment bills advancing on Wednesday. This follows the approval of 39 similar bills the previous day, bringing the total to 81.

Among the other notable proposals is a bill to separate the offices of the Attorney-General of the Federation and state attorneys-general from the Minister of Justice and state commissioners for justice.

Another bill seeks to grant citizenship rights to foreign spouses of Nigerian women and establish a minimum quota for youth and women in specific government appointments.

The House also considered bills advocating the creation of new states, including Ijebu, Ife-Ijesa, Tiga, Orlu, and Etiti.

The proposed amendments were not debated and now move forward for further legislative action.

Until they remove immunity for everyone in the government including the President, they are all still jokers
Otherwise, they would all be at the mercy of the President and it can lead to worse corruption tendencies

Tinubu is taking decisions that ordinarily no one aiming for 2nd term will take. He is doing it not minding whether they are going to give him votes for 2nd term or not e.g:
Removing subsidy
Not paying for dollars to keep exchange low
and now this.
Honestly, I don't see any selfish president looking for 2nd term attempting all these in his first tenure. It's a testament to his determination to fix the country and I salute him for this.

Yes very good, in America governors don't have immunity, governors are abusing their immunity, they are the most corrupt in Nigeria, no need to give them 4 to 8 years before prosecuting them. This is good news for EFCC and IC.

If this bill becomes law, this could become one of the most important laws this coubtry has enacted since 1999.

If Governors know that during their term in office they can be prosecuted, found guilty and jailed, and therefore be impeached, they will think twice about corruption.

No single law can eradicate corruption, but boy a law like this will make a huge difference.

Also, no President can right the wrongs of over 50 years in 2 years, but the rate of changes (mostly unappreciated by the public) that this government is introducing in its short time in office unprecedented in the history of this country is incredible.

Wahala... If only President have Immunity then it is good. Public presiding officers should have their offices separated from individuals. Individuals should be held able instead of their offices for abusing privileges.

It doesn't make sense.

They should be immuned while in office and strip off after .That is why they are our leader within their period of occupation of the office.

The office shouldn't be that rubbished!

I don't think Tinubu will sign it into law

Don't mind the fools. Tinubu is targeting to have extra power to deal with any governor as he likes. This would have been a perfect opportunity to use EFCC to wrongly accuse Fubara.

As long as EFCC is a tool of the president, Nigeria is doomed in corruption fight

Now they will all be at the mercy of the president. I hope we are not heading for full dictatorship? I would have preferred it's removed for everyone including the president or we leave it as it is.
