No. 1, your income shows you and your wife do not have skills that can command good income. But even at that and your wife working just 2 days and you working 4 days, you said you guys can still save 500pounds, that is 1million naira, Tell yourself the truth if you and your wife dey nigeria, will you guys save 1million naira per month as a family , with the skill u have and the job u will be able to do in Nigeria. Will you have access to the kind of facilities u have access to in UK.
you send 150pounds back home every month, the people u send that 150pounds to every month, if u dey Nigeria will u be able to give them 300k naira every month.

Oga you and your wife work minimum wage(which means there is room for growth if you upskill with time), you work 4 days a week, your wife works 2 days a week and you guys are still sending 300 thousand naira home every month and saving 500pounds(approx 1m naira) every month. Now let's not even convert to Naira, una fit save 6k pounds per year, while working 54 hours a week(between u and your wife)...if that is not good enough, please tell us what u guys were doing and earning in nigeria before u left

No matter what people say about UK, this is an area I will give it kudos.
The opportunity is open and accessible for future generations be it black, Indian or white and it's the same.
I've met British Nigerians in high top level jobs like gold exchange, oil trading companies, investment banks etc. tech is even becoming norm for minorities. Kemi Badenoch was in tech for a long time b4 she went into politics. This was when tech was just new and people rarely understood the opportunity in the sector. Lots of Nigerians now own up to 5-10 properties including residential, nursing homes, commercial properties. Home care is now becoming a regular turf for our naija people and it's crazily lucrative if U have good management and organisational skills.

Look out for british Indians in the future, they will be the ones running that country. They now have their own rich elite neighbourhood.
Europe is a different ball game entirely. Quality of life may be better than UK but they just want U to stay at home and be having kids while they pay U or U working some semi- skilled Job with average pay. That's why most times, blacks in Europe end up moving to UK.
It's just a pity UK had been mismanaged by recent shortsighted politicians, careless mass immigration, bad policies, impact of unrestricted globalization, and Brexit. That country offers great opportunity. Unfortunately, it's on its way to become the next 1st world country to become 2nd world. UK is a case of what useless politicians cannot destroy doesn't exist. Canada is next on the block unless they retrace their downward self destructive movement.
Generally, Anglophone countries are the best for immigrants, especially black immigrants. However, their openness is being taken advantage of. Na why I dey laugh new age immigrants who keep ing illegal migration. When the Anglophone natives are sick and tired of this, they (immigrants) will learn deep lessons.

Another country I am yet to read stellar black professionals is the Netherlands, even with its long history of Black immigrants from Suriname.

I you very well..I engaging with your earlier thread, and wishing you the best through your ordeal at the time.

But I can't understand why you are yet again creating a thread like this one, that achieves nothing, ultimately.

I'm sure if we could turn back time, to go back to where you were mentally when you began your journey to Japa, 10001 of these kain threads would not have deterred you. So I just wonder what you hope to achieve with it now. Even Dele Momodu wey dey cap, prolly spends more than half of the year overseas.

These kain decisions should be left to each person to make and deal with. No need for convincing or explaining. It is pointless! I don taya to dey read this kain threads for here aswear

Those that think it best to stay in Naija should be left alone, as they have the conviction that they know what they are doing. Those that think is best to Japa should be left alone, as they also have the conviction that they know what they are doing...

All this shalaye is not necessary

Although the children goes to good schools that's a compensation as they quickly learn their ascent
Sorry, but that is a subjective phrase. You have to compare the quality of schools in Nigeria vs the UK. It is not all state schools in the UK that are of high quality. The major advantage of the UK will be if the chances of getting into a top-rated university in the UK are high enough. Else, one's child fit later land up for Greenwich University or the University of Plymouth.

All these nonsense many experience is largely because of the incompetent Buhari who most of these people campaigned and voted for in 2015. So, no pity whatsoever!

If you read a thread of his that entered the Front Page, he made mention of owning properties and a thriving business in Nigeria. So his quality of life and earnings (on PPP basis) in Nigeria were higher than in the UK. It is why this form of japa should be for the downtrodden in Nigeria who have nothing to hold on to - this £500 will be a massive blessing to them. But for someone who owned businesses and properties in Nigeria, wetin be £500?

The healthcare that is comparable to what you and your wife and your child receive in UK, do you know how much that will cost in Nigeria?
The most important thing you should consider is that you and your wife are not yet maximizing your earning power-for obvious reasons(attention for your child and probably you guys are still relatively new in UK and still trying to navigate the system).
YOu guys still have room for growth, career change to a more rewarding one financially. ANd you are also maintaining a good work-life balance between u and ur wife for now. But if i may ask, what were u doing/earning when u were in Nigeria

if he owned businesses and was thriving in Nigeria, i understand. But then again all of these things can be relative. Maybe if he defines the element of that "thriving" one can see things differently. I am guessing he just got abroad, and honestly saving just 500pounds a month should be the least of his worries right now, his worry right now should be the possibility of pivoting to a more financially rewarding career for him and his wife. They have time on their hands...collectively both of them work just 60hrs a week(most likely less).

I lived in the UK as a student for many years, and made far more that.

I know many professionals making $11-20k monthly before tax all around me in Canada. Some lawyers and doctors make far more than the $20k sef/month.

Yes, it depends on your career path and where you are.

Japa is great. There are many who would have been nobodies in Nigeria who are building great lives across the West and financially successful.

Dele lives abroad; his family lives there as I type this. Dele now frequents Nigeria because of close friendship with politicians - Governor Adeleke, Atiku, Afikuyomi et. The things he sees with these guys are the reason for his latest comments.

A lot of apartments are shared in uk so as to cut cost and with bills inclusive ( that means cost of gas ,electricity, internet and water are part of the rent)...that food and transportation part is over exaggerated.wetin u dey chop with 200 pounds? 140 is too much for one Month transportation ..with 20 pounds or less u get unlimited data with free calls and sms
This is the quality of life OP keeps hammering on. Someone who lived in a big house in Nigeria will now have to share apartments, especially at an older age. It does not make sense to me. Standard of living must be maintained in both locations. That should be the goal.

Yes, the "doing it for my children" is absolute nonsense unless the person gets a good job in the abroad. The only country I can accept such is the US and maybe Canada due to its proximity. Elsewhere, the chances aren't that good. UK even try sef. Countries like Spain, Northern Europe and elsewhere are dead ends for second-generation black people. Look at ? Apart from Tidjane Thiam, I am to yet to read about any stellar black person who went through the system compared to the US. Another unfortunate one is Belgium!

Anything aside scholarship or getting directly employed or transferred by an organisation in Nigeria to the branch in the abroad is nonsense. Covenant University is there, ditto good universities in South Africa.
What happened to Belgium?

Dont flow with this mindset. 80-90% of migrants may be doing that but those are not the only jobs opened to migrants. If you say those are the jobs readily available, i agree with you, but then that's why the income is minimum wage. ANd honestly you dont have to do those kind of jobs forever

How many people traveled with N30 million in cash out of pocket? Many times, they take loans that they end up repaying in a few years, while some sell properties. Take a N30 million loan and start a business in Nigeria or spend it on education, I promise you, you may never be able to repay it even if they give you 20 years. If people could pay off their loans after just a few years in the UK, I guarantee you that it’s still a better deal.
what is stopping you from taking a loan and jakpa?

I don't understand your numbers. I wonder if you're inflating numbers to drive a point. I pay roughly £10 for 120gbp of 5G data. In addition, I have unlimited full fibre at home for £25

Most full time worker can only work up to 40 or 48 max per week if u exceed 48 hours then tax got to be high as high as 40%

Again, worth clarifying that 40% tax is only on the additional over the 20% tax rate.. so in essence, those on higher thresholds still take home more than those on lower thresholds
For reference, the The 40 % rate starts at roughly 50k. That higher tax rate is partly used to pay for public services and the reason why our rich keep going there

Note: food is extremely cheap and affordable unlike in Nigeria. That's why most that relocated after few months they look revived and fresh grin

You see this line here.

This is the third or fourth time I'm hearing this from someone abroad.

And this is one of the reasons most people would want to Japa. Especially those struggling to feed themselves in Nigeria.

Africa has the most expensive food. There is a reason why on our comedy shows, someone eating big meat is depicted as a sign of enjoyment.

Food is so cheap in the west that you begin to wonder. Someone on minimum wage would use 1hr pay (after tax) to but 2 whole chicken with change. Now imagine people earning much higher (which isn't difficult to do). Conversely, even someone earning 1m in Nigeria cannot use their hourly wage to buy 2 whole chicken. Same goes for most consumables and services - cars, phones e.t.c. The two main things relatively more expensive in the west are labour (for good reason) and housing

Even if you choose to eat only exotic African and cook home-made Nigerian meals, it's still relatively very cheap.

30 million is just £15,000. E never even reach school fees.

You remind me of someone who around 2016 said that in this life, all he needs is to earn 100k and that once he earns that all his problems were over. I was earning well o er that and told him baba, no be so.

I am all for 9ja hustle and ludos to those still in the game..

There were folks earning much more that 30m who were brought to zero by kidnap or a health issue - both of which would be no worry for someone earning minimum wage in the UK

But ask him to put u tru in any tech related issue they weyrey will ignore you just the way Github use to ignore any file in .gitignore folder. Even if he want to answer you. U will be ed with his submission cus he would answer as if he was forced.

As u re looking at him so, he's always angry whenever a Nigeria resident say he or she is better off in Nigeria. He can abuse u cus of that, as if he gave u money to arrange for document and u squandered it grin

Thanks for your honest write up. I had the fortune of living and schooling in the UK. After studies we were all running back to Nigeria. Immediately after NYSC there was job and within a year or two of working, you are entitled to car loan for a Bettle.
Nigeria started becoming bad with the politics that Obasanjo handed over to, that is, Shagari and co. We never got it right after that

A person who could have ₦30m in Nigeria should aim at making more and then go holidays. With that you live the best of both worlds.

I pray to the Almighty to turn things around in our country, Nigeria.
