So even when d coup happened it was ironsi that took over n ojucrook can't even release awolowo
It was Gowon that released awolowo

The post made me laugh.
The iIIitracy of lgb0s is shown in their lack of knowledge about basics.
1945 is called "Jos Riot" not "massacre".
1953 was targeted at Yoruba in Kano, it was more of North vs South crises.
The south wants independence while the north objected and even wanted secession, today, lgb0s are claiming victims as usual.
If u lots had stayed in your homes, wouId there be kiIIings of lgb0s anywhere?
What you are calling 'riot', was also a massacre. Google what happened to Igbo lives and businesses in the 1945 Jos riots. It also doesn't matter if you call the Kano massacre a North/South thing, Igbos were massacred in it. That Yorubas rarely complain when massacred by Northerners and has nothing to do with us
But at least we all now know that Nigerians were already killing each other before Independence. The country was already a disaster even before the colonial masters left, and has remained a disaster to this day

Awolowo's coupists did not kill Igbo leaders because Awolowo was in an alliance with NCNC around that time, so Awolowo spared Igbo leaders.
However Awolowo made sure that all his opponents in the north and western regions were eliminated. He even eliminated some senior army officers who were aligned to those politicians that were his opponents.
The two highest ranking of that coup were Yorubas namely Banjo and Fajuyi, who were Awolowo's linkmen.
Fajuyi even trained ALL the coupists.

@ bolded.........this is about the 4th time this month alone with igbos like your good self roping in Banjo as part of the Jan 15th coipists even none of the coupists (Jan. 15th) has ever named Banjo as involved in their dumb and ethnically lopsided coup.
Fyi, Banjo was arrested for allegedly, attempting to topple Ironsi' s illegal govt with two pistols and 5 orderlies on the 17th or 18th of Jan.1966.
Banjo was from ogbomosho hence he was unashamedly, pro- Akintola whilst Ademoyega, an ijebu man was pro- Awo. Ademoyega was therefore easy to recruit by Ifeajunna who only had to sell him the Bs that a bunch of igbo boys are willing to risk their lives in a coup that will bring forth a yorubaman at the helms of our national affairs..

If there is any apology to be made, it's the Igbos apologizing to the rest of Nigeria .
there was no beef before 1966.
If Ironsi hav taken action on the Coup plotters as advised, the counter Coup might not happen.
When you slap me,you can't determine the severity of my own counter slap..
After the first Coup, Igbo civilians trooped to the street of North, jubilating and jeering the Northerners who are still in pain of losing their leaders.
They labeled bread mocking how Nzeogwu killed Sardauna, and danced to Rex Laurence song mocking the Northerners..
What did u expect¿ Retaliation in the North, and counter retaliation in the East...

Grabbing power by Ironsi was the confirmation of the coup
In the parliamentary system
What should have happened is that parliament should have been allowed to choose a new leader
That is how parliamentary system works . There is no separation of executive and legislator
Legislators are elected in their constituencies. They arrive at the centre and elect a Prime Minister
FROM AMONG THEM> The electorate do not elect Prime Minister
The Prime Minister selects Ministers FROM AMONG THEM,
So if the Prime Minister was killed they should simply have been allowed to choose a New Prime Minister
But Ironsi chose to complete the coup and protect the Ibo coupists

"you guys" Who are you referring to?
You need to learn some manners
Well firstly it was a murder of political leaders across Nigeria except Igbo leaders
It only became a COUP when IRONSI decided to GRAB power
The assassination of a Leader does not mean the army should take over
Why did Ironsi do that after Igbo officers had brutally murdered others
Also he failed to prosecute them so that made it suspicious
The triumphal and taunting behaviour of Iboes across the country and in barracks confirmed the UNMISKATABLE nature of the coup as an Ibo one, deplorable!!

This your argument is like me saying that Soludo must be pro-Obi because they are both from Anambra state. Secondly do you really think Ojukwu would have given a pro-Akintola man command of a Biafran army group?
Banjo and Fajuyi were diehard Awoists. Take it from me.
Banjo was obviously not happy that the Jan15 coup did not succeed in installing Awo as the prime minister of Nigeria, which was obviously why he tried a last-ditch effort to know whether he could topple Ironsi, thus making it more likely that the original objective of bringing in Awolowo would be achieved
Even Babangida that took part in the so-called revenge coup, noted that Awolowo would have been the major beneficiary of the Jan 1966 coup.

The Killing of Igbos has been happening in Nigeria, even in colonial times. Examples are the 1945 Jos massacre and the 1953 Kano massacre. But the straw that broke the Camels back was the massacre of 1966. There was mass killings of Easterners, mainly Igbos, all over Nigeria, particularly in the North. Millions of Igbos headed back the East in fear of their lives. The Military Governor of the Eastern Region, Lt Col Ojukwu, was furious at head of the Military Government, Lt Col Gowon, for doing nothing as thousands of Igbos were killed. Many Eastern groups approached Ojukwu and asked him to declare the Eastern Region a seperate country in the face of genocide. Ojukwu refuses and opts to meet Gowon
The Military President of Ghana, General Ankrah, hosts Gowon and Ojukwu in his Hilltop mansion in Aburi, Ghana in January 1967 . Ojukwu and Gowon negotiate for two days, reach an agreement, which both men signed in front of General Ankrah. One of the points of the agreement was that Gowon would not change the structural arrangement of Nigeria during the period of Military rule. When they return home, Gowon starts to deny the agreement, and completely breaks the agreement with Decree 14, which abolished all four Regions, and created 12 new states, changing the structural arrangement of Nigeria
In retaliation, Ojukwu declares the Eastern Region as Republic of Biafra. Gowon declares war, which leads to a three year armed conflict.
The rest is history
Let’s observe the man that sons of Zik hail as a hero…. The cold hearted killer that starved thousands of Biafrans to death while a desperate agenda wants to pin it on Awolowo and the federal government that did everything to help the starving people.
Excerpts from the book of Brigadier Godwin Alabi Isiama:
When pictures of starving children reached world media. Arrangements were made for relief to Biafra.
Ojukwu got very upset and started to kill foreign European aid workers. He did not want the thousands of people perishing from kwashiokor to be fed. He wanted them to remain as skeletons so he could use their pictures for world sympathy.
Robert S Goldstein: Public relations representative of Biafra in the United States was really enraged when he saw how heartless ojukwu was…. He resigned after observing that the real demon was not the federal government but a demagogue obsessed for power and reckless in the attempt in the name of Ojukwu. He wrote in his letter of resignation:
‘When you ( Ojukwu) appeared before heads of state and representatives of the OAU at Niamey in Niger… they offered to help with relief for the starving throngs…. However, you delayed this, hoping to use the unfortunates with world sympathy on their side as a tool to further your ambition….’
These events seriously alarmed even senior of the breakaway Biafra nation. Ralph Uwechue ( Biafra diplomat in during the civil war) said Ojukwu was ambitious to the point of megalomania, Cold and cynical to the sufferings of Biafrans and arrogantly self-confident. (Reflections on the Nigerian civil war)
Zik said of Ojukwu and Biafra: The world is shocked that Igbos have been tongue tied and emasculated, that they have allowed tyrants to blindfold and hoodwink them into a war alleged to be fought for their survival.
Ojukwu’s mission was to make sure his people starved to death so he could use the pictures for Propaganda. The thousands starving to death…. Same people he claimed he declared Biafra to protect….were just minor casualties in his obsession for power.
This is the man sons of Zik hail as a hero. A cold heartless demagogue that starved their fathers to death in the millions in his reckless ambition for power.

Lol
Let's assume that Ojukwu wanted to starve little children for propaganda, would it not have been a golden opportunity for Nigeria to feed those children and turn the people against Ojukwu?
But the Nigerian government chose to keep Biafra blockaded by Air, land and sea, then say it was Ojukwu starving children?
Such propaganda is nonsense

All this lies from the three major tribes in Nigeria should Stop, when the British left, the Hausa/Fulani, the Yorubas and Igbos where jostling for the control of the country, when the Igbos outsmarted the rest in a coup, the Yorba and Hausa/Fulani will have non of it,The first winners, the Igbos took charge and the taunting of the northern part of Nigeria by Igbos living there added salt to injury, When it was clear that Nigeria was not achievable, The Igbos restrategised to take the eastern region, Gowon played a fast one by creating States, defeating the plans of the Igbos to get a chunk of the pie, this led to the unfortunate ware, that is why Igbos till today Will never agree to a bafra that does not comprise the old dismantled eastern region,

So Yorubas were bystanders?
danvon:
After the British left, it caused a power vacuum.
There became a question over who will take the throne now that the king is dead.
In the end the Northerners were better organized and more strategic, so they ended up winning the power struggle.
Igbos refused to accept their loss and their place in the pecking order and this is what led to the civil war.

Igbos that has been in existence for thousands of years is what you said were on the verge of extinction before the British came?
ChiefJusticeFuc:
You talk as if your Alaigbo was one peaceful hobbit enclave prior to British colonial intervention.
Your yeast was on the verge of self extinction brought about by intensive slave raiding , cannibalism and ritual murders committed by the Arochukwu fetish barbaric gangsters.
The British came and stopped you from harvesting yourselves into extinction via the slave trade. They then put an end to senseless ritual murders and cannibalism.
The yeast was the worst place on earth prior to Europeans setting foot on it. If there was anywhere in Africa that benefited from colonialism it is your yeast.
European s of first s with African tribes depicted a proud race of well fed natives with sophisticated societies. This wasn't the case when Europeans ventured into Alaigbo. Starvation was rampant and society was one of might is right - an oppressive shithole with slavery and human sacrifice at its core .
