The Pan Yoruba Socio-Political Group, Afenifere, has appointed Oba Oladipo Olaitan as the new leader of the group, News360 Nigeria reports.

The Meeting was attended by delegates from the six South West states, Kogi, Kwara and the Itsekiri of Delta State

According to the communique, “Oba Olaitan will function as the Leader in acting capacity till after the final burial of Papa Ayo Adebanjo when he will assume the office as substantive Leader.

In his acceptance speech, the new leader, said that he is” committed to the ideals of Afenifere as a social-political organisation and unrelenting advocate of restructuring and true federalism adding that he would ensure the unity of the organisation.

On security, the group decried the worsening security situation in the country.

Congrats to the new leader of the pan-Yoruba social-cultural group Afenifere.. we wish him God's guidance and protection in his new role.

My own plea is for Afenifere and other Yoruba leaders to come together and find a lasting solution to this kidnapping menace perpetrated by foreigners (of mostly Fulani stock) right inside our forests in Yorubaland.

The neglect of Fulanis carryimg arms and other dangerous weapons around the country unchallenged under guise of cattle rearing is what we are facing today, a Southerner can't move around with kitchen knife without getting harrased by security operatives but another ethnic group will carry swords, cutlass, even AK-47 rifle without getting arrested. I'm certain if we (Yorubas) can push for access to firearms (licensed) for protection of citizens, this kidnapping problem will become half-solved. Let everyone have a firearm in their possession that Govt. can track in case of investigations, don't just leave people vulnerable while outlaws go about killing and inflicting serious trauma on innocent Nigerians.
The Governors who own the lands should set up their special security task force to comb all the forests and arrest anyone caught hiding therein because they are the criminals disturbing the peace of the South West.

I watched the clip of the young prince only to shake head in pity.. this "I don't care attitude" of Yorubas till one falls victim is what is killing our people gradually. Today it's the prince, tomorrow it might be anyone atal.

Time to act is now.. convene a regional security forum and allow experts including those in diaspora to offer help.

Who is Odumakin? Odumakin of yesterday?

Afenifere died the day it accepted to Olusegun Obasanjo for his 2nd term. That was how Obasanjo oust all Afenifere governors exept Tinubu who refused Obasanjo’s bait to work for him (Obasanjo). Afenifere leaders’ children including one of Afenifere leaders went on to serve in Obasanjo’s government. This and other issues made Bola Ahmed Tinubu to leave the Afenifere’s part AD and created a parallel so called Afenifere Renewal Group and the end of Afenifere’s political influence in Yoruba land.

Summary, Obasanjo killed Afenifere, and Tinubu buried it

My concern is how baba as a king, will be able to effectively carry out his functions as Afenifere (socio political organ), and as a referred king, unbiased and impartial.

So Mutiu and Bose should be allowed to carry guns, so that Bose can go and shoot Mutiu side chick because Mutiu her long time boyfriend is sleeping around. You want to turn Nigeria to America where they kill themselves everyday?

AMOTEKUN should be adequately armed like the Nigerian Army, that’s the temporary solution till State Police starts since Asiwaju Tinubu has given matching order for the creation of State Police. Underground work is going on fir the kickoff

I am not sure if an Oba who already has traditional duties will be a good appointment as next leader especially when Afenifere is a social and political group. Except the title is only ceremonial. It is important for traditional rulers to be seen as non-partisan.

For the tribal warlords here, I hope you see the other states that ed - Delta, Kogi and Kwara states.

Nice one from Flokii.

If the leaders would look into this,it will go a long way in putting an end to this menace from these killer herdsmen.

In fact, if they will launch a force, assemble youths from all states, villages and equip them and comb the entire forest for a period of time,I will volunteer as a resident in the SW.
The SS and SE should do the same.

Its Mr A today,it can be Mr B tomorrow as you said.

God bless and strengthen the Afenifere..and of course,God bless Edo state mi Tierra.
