Faith063: Have you tried approaching your Graduate Program Director to explain your current situation, s/he may be able to find a source of funding for that one semester or something to waive out of state tuition and reduce your cost. Were you initially funded by your program and lost your funding due to reasons that are your fault? You can check on credit karma for banks that are willing to offer you personal loans based on your credit score. Another option might be to try apply for an AMEX credit card since they usually give reasonable limits to student and also do interest free for some period of time. Lastly, approach international office to see what advice they have for you with respect to enrollment. They can allow you enroll while you keep thinking of how to solve your issue. They could also allow you apply for work visa to work outside of campus due to hardship and compelling change in your financial situation. 1 Like |

Hi guys. I travelled to the US on the 20th of May 2024 and came back to Nigeria on the 7th of August 2024 Purpose of trip was vacation Now it’s January 2025 and I wanna travel for another vacation again. Would this raise red flags at the port of entry ? I’m actually honestly going for vacation I’m rich and don’t work for anyone. So I can afford my trip. Would the immigration officer assume that I’m traveling or visiting the United States too much?? ![]() |

JaySterling:If you articulate your purpose of visit perfectly, this shouldn't be a problem. |

Lagzyl1: Proper planning... F2 cannot work. My story I came to the States on f2 visa but I started nursing school immediately. As f1 I have been working with my school teaching hospital with T and the work pays well at least for a student. I graduate this summer and of course I would get a job by God's grace with my Opt, from there get a hospital to file green card for me and my family. So, plan your life very well. F1 has benefits Right now it's so easy to switch to f1 from f2 if you consider that 1 Like |

Thanks, I've spoken with my program director but it seems they do not have fund at moment. I also want the international student office to be the last option as I don't know if there would be an implications in the future for going through that route GboyegaD: |

DWJourney:Yeah, you need a t sponsor who must not be a family member; LPR or USC. They too will submit their tax returns of three years and must have made enough and their household will be stated and examined by USCIS and/or embassy in Lagos. The savings and other income, Assets, Proof of current employment should help especially at the embassy since the case has been approved long ago. You can still these on the ceac site and go with the hard copies on the interview. 1 Like |

aestake:Sure bro. We have presented it and was accepted. Now been waiting for appointment date for the Mama. Quick one bro, have been in the US for 2 months, got my SSN but my GC card haven't come out yet. I'm planning to travel out of the US, is it possible to go out? My immigrant visa is still valid. And with what the current istration is doing, do you think it's not a problem? @Taal17 and others, I also need your input please 🙏 |
Taal17: 3:31pm On Jan 28 |
DWJourney: Have you ed USCIS Did you pay for your green card? If you haven't then you need to. That's what delayed mine, fortunately I received a letter telling me I haven't paid. I got the card about 2 wks after Check USCIS site Also your address is it the same address they have for you. DOS where border patrol sits may have some overzealous staff so even though you visa is valid for a year. I would have the GC first. Do you have a job or training or schooling in the US Do you have ties including residence card drivers license. All these show you have established domicile. |
DWJourney: 11:29am On Jan 29 |
Taal17:I have paid for the card over a month before I even came in. I don't know what's wrong. There is a USCIS number that I used to call, but only the Ai will be responding to you. I have checked their website, no updated info. I don't have job yet, no DL or any training. Have only got SSN. How can I get the residence card please? Thanks a lot for your reply. |

Hey Guys. I’m currently in the USA on a B1/B2 visa and I just found a way to apply for an ITIN - independent taxpayer identification number. I needed to get this because I cannot get an SSN I am on a B1/B2 visa and plan on buying a property which is not in violation of my visa To buy a property I need an ITIN because I would be paying property taxes NB: I have no intention of living in the USA. I am just buying the property as an investment and I would return to Nigeria and have an agency handle rental and management for me. Will these cause me to have issues when I’m renewing my B1/B2 visa ? I’m doing two things -Acquiring an ITIN -Buying a property outright in full (no mortgage) NB: -I have not violated my visa conditions. There is no where that states that a B1/B2 holder cannot buy property -I will be returning back to Nigeria after staying about 3 months to acquire my ITIN and buy the property in full. Full amount is available Please advise, will this pose me any problems with embassy in future? Because honestly, I’m doing nothing wrong! 2 Likes |

DWJourney: More like State ID go to DMV you can use thst since you font have drivers license. Your port and dsn is enough for that For USCIS..i think you look for the case staus online Sign up for something even if its community college. To show intent of domicile else it wpuld seem that you're not intent on making the US your residence 1 Like |

Please, what visa categories are allowed to do business in America? I would love to see more Nigerians do business in America. There is so much for the taking here. |
coolscott(m): 12:56pm On Feb 18 |
amInigerian: It would seem that almost all other people think business ownership when they come in here, but Africans think work. I understand the reason may be because most Africans that come here, come first to school and from school, the natural progression is to get a job (if you choose to stay). I may not be correct but I think the only time they can do business (if they choose to) is when they have their green cards, but at this time, the 9-5 system has already drawn them knee or neck-deep. One thing the high earners do (and most of them are due to their high education qualifications) is invest in real estate. If they find the right guide, they do well. If they do not, they may or may not do well. These are my thoughts. Feel free to chime in. 1 Like |

Faith063: I appreciate all the helpful suggestions you've provided for securing funds; I have implemented some of them, and they have been beneficial. However, I still need about $4,500 to reach my goal. If you have any additional ideas or links to quick scholarships I could apply for, I would be very grateful. I'm currently in good academic standing and eager to explore more options. Thank you! 1 Like |
