Babachir Lawal Vows to Work with El-Rufai to Stop Tinubu’s Re-election in 2027 Abuja, Nigeria - Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, has declared his intention to collaborate with former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai to prevent President Bola Tinubu from winning the 2027 presidential election according to the information obtained by The Bureau Newspaper on Wednesday. Lawal, once an ally of Tinubu, has become a vocal critic of the president, blaming his economic reforms for exacerbating poverty and hardship in Northern Nigeria. In an interview with Punch, Lawal described Tinubu’s policies as “nail-biting reforms” that have left the Northern region feeling betrayed and economically distressed. He emphasized the urgent need for political change, stating that the North is mobilizing to ensure Tinubu does not secure a second term. Lawal’s stance aligns with El-Rufai’s recent warnings about a potential political upheaval in 2027, similar to the challenges faced by former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015. El-Rufai had shared insights on his verified X (formerly Twitter) from APC member Uche Diala, highlighting a significant decline in Tinubu’s relationship with the North over the past two years. “The North is seriously mobilizing with a consensus that Bola Tinubu must step aside in the 2027 election,” Lawal stated. “This is not a matter of debate. I may have previously disagreed with El-Rufai on certain issues, but on this, I will him in efforts to ensure Tinubu does not win again. If he does, Northern Nigeria could become one large refugee camp.” Lawal stressed that the region’s future depends on finding a suitable alternative to Tinubu, regardless of the candidate’s geographical origin. “What matters is that the candidate understands the importance of a united Nigeria,” he said. He acknowledged the divide among political elites over the candidate’s origin, with some advocating for a Southern candidate while others express concerns about the risks involved. “Ultimately, we all agree that we need a substitute for Bola Tinubu,” Lawal added. “Unfortunately, many Northern figures benefiting from this istration are merely justifying their positions, indifferent to the struggles faced by the broader Northern populace.” Lawal concluded by highlighting the disconnect between elite opinions and the sentiments of the masses, asserting that even those who appear to Tinubu will not vote for him due to the hardships they endure. He urged Northern political leaders to heed the call for change and ensure that Tinubu does not secure a second term. This development signals growing discontent within the Northern political establishment and sets the stage for a contentious battle ahead of the 2027 elections. Political neophytes like Babachir Lawal, who was loudly proclaiming throughout the 2023 election campaign that he would prevent Tinubu from becoming president. Even El-Rufai the midget would be laughing Babachir Lawal. Tinubu's allies in the North are loyal to the core. El-Rufai lacks the network to turn them against Tinubu, which is why no northern political figure has ed him in his Twitter rants. Who will betray Tinubu for disloyal Elrufai? 119 Likes 15 Shares |

As long as Nigerian politics is concerned, no Nigerian politician alive can unseat President Tinubu, except Nigerians have decided not to accept bribe, gift from politicians. As long as the old process of electing leaders in Nigeria is concerned, everyone should forget about power, If you want to be president work for Tinubu, if he anoints you, then you can be president, this I have seen All these opposition parties should just go back to their private lives and business. With Tinubu I learnt that PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE. He’s the best politician and game player I’ve seen if you come to Nigerian politics. He’s not owing anyone anything, he didn’t borrow money from anyone to become president. 73 Likes 10 Shares |

LegendHero: Politics for the elites, as practiced by Tinubu cannot save him in 2027. If you can feel the pulse of the North right now, you would know that Tinubu is not getting anything close to his 2023 numbers in the North. Where were those loyal elites to speak in Tinubu’s favour during the tax bill? Little wonder the directors and board of the new development commissions are packed with sons and daughters of those "loyal elites". Besides, who really are those northern elites behind Tinubu? Ganduje and co? , people like Elrufai had to go against those elites to back Tinubu in 2023. Right now, Tinubu has only succeeded in convincing most northerners that the northern elders were right to have been wary of him and the concept of Amana (trust) that rallied northerners together for him has been broken by Tinubu himself. 32 Likes 4 Shares |

AMINDA: Lol you don’t understand the North and how they conduct elections. Political heavyweight matters in northern election and the North is not a monolith. Think about it. How many political heavyweight was with Tinubu before and not with him anymore in the North? Aside El-Rufai, who lost Kaduna in all election except governorship, who else left Jagaban fold? But daily we hear new entrants into APC even from Southern Kaduna of all places. Hear this, Northern bloc are preparing for 2031. Even El-Rufai tears is all about 2031 because his other Northerners already cut his wings. He is a political orphan now. We hear more than this noise in 2023, oh Tinubu will lose in the North. Northerners go stone am, them dey tear his campaign poster, burn APC broom. Oh Atiku will do this and that; eventually on Election Day, Jagaban still got more vote in the NW than Atiku. Na online una noise end. 71 Likes 3 Shares |

LegendHero: You are the one who doesn't understand the politics of the North. I ask again, who are these northern elites that you claim are behind Tinubu and where were they during the tax reform Bill. The northern elders, governors and religious leaders came out clearly to tell the President that they were not in of the bill until certain clauses were adjusted to their demands. Why couldn't the elites save Tinubu then? Why should the North be obligated to have Tinubu continue till 2031 when they can either have a Northerner like Atiku succeed him now. Heads or tails, power will still return to the North, whether in 2027 or 2031. So, what's the motivation to wait for Tinubu to handover to his annointed successor? They have the numbers to take it now. Mind you, Elrufai is basically the last of the C bloc in the APC and he's being systematically chased out of the party. This is after Amaechi and Co of the new PDP bloc have been schemed out already. APC of today is just Lagos branch of the ACN with a few yes men from the North and some old PDP ( Aregbesola, Fayemi, Amosun, Lai Mohammed, and other non-Lagos ACN all schemed out). 24 Likes 7 Shares |
