Transparency International, a global coalition against corruption, has ranked Nigeria as the 36th most corrupt country in the world.

Nigeria was ed by Uganda, Mexico, Madagascar, Iraq, and Cameroon in the same spot with a total score of 26 points.

The ranking released on Tuesday highlighted the 2024 corruption perceptions index.

The list ranks Denmark as the least corrupt country with 90 points, Finland as second with 88 points, and Singapore as third with 84 points.

No African country made the top 10 very clean list as it was dominated by European countries.

However, Cape Verde tops the list of least corrupt African countries despite being number 35 with 62 points.

South Sudan, Somalia and Venezuela are the most corrupt countries in the world for the year in review.

Citing the basis of the selection and result, the chair of Transparency Internation, Francois Valeria, said, “The 2024 Corruption Perceptions Index (I) shows that corruption is a dangerous problem in every part of the world, but change for the better is happening in many countries.

“Research also reveals that corruption is a major threat to climate action. It hinders progress in reducing emissions and adapting to the unavoidable effects of global heating.

“The I ranks 180 countries and territories worldwide by their perceived levels of public sector corruption. The results are given on a scale of 0 (highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean).”

Valeria further maintained that While 32 countries have significantly reduced their corruption levels since 2012, there’s still a huge amount of work to be done – 148 countries have stayed stagnant or gotten worse during the same period, adding, “The global average of 43 has also stood still for years, while over two-thirds of countries score below 50. Billions of people live in countries where corruption destroys lives and undermines human rights.”

Well...

It's one of two things. It's either other countries have become more corrupt than we are or there has been some improvement in our anti-corruption drive over the last couple of years.

Either way, our ratings seem to have improved.

I honestly pay attention to statistics, especially the ones with a link/report to survey or researches that leads to that deduction

When we have T-pain, the symbol of corruption in the country, as the number one citizen.

Goodswill Akpabio, with his monumental corruption profile at NDDC, as President of the Senate.

Abdullahi Ganduje, who was caught red-handed with wads of dollar notes stashed in his babariga, as the chairman of the ruling party.

Bello Matawalle, a federal minister who is alleged to be the sponsor of bandits in his State.

Orji Uzor Kalu, who was jailed in a massive corruption case worth billions of naira, now a senator and chairing the committee in charge of South East Development Commission

All of who are running the affairs of the country today, you begin to wonder why Nigeria is not even number one on the list

Hopeless statistics

Nigeria is the most corrupt country in the world.

If its a lie, take ten different Nigerians from different walk of life and put in charge of party rice and see what will happen.
Alternatively take ten different hopeless Nigerians bannies and ask them to fry dodo and let them not only expose their incompetence, they will also exhibit their greed mode.

Finally take ten different ikwerre youth to the backyard and tell them to share burial meat at the backyard without supervision and you will discover that 16 is greater than 19.

With this I hope I have been able to confuse you and not convince you that we are the most corrupt country in the world.

Nobody should drag our position with us.

The ranking is flawed, and is based on Western perception rather than any objective criteria.
However, speaking of their ranking; several years ago, when Nigeria was labelled as the most corrupt or second most corrupt nation, the economy was much better.
