Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has emphasized the need for structured policies and decisive leadership to drive Nigeria’s development after engaging with top Indonesian government officials during his visit to the Southeast Asian nation, News360 Nigeria reports.

In a statement shared on Monday via X (formerly Twitter), Obi detailed his discussions with Agung Laksono, former Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy; Muhammad Jusuf Kalla, former Vice President; and Yandri Susanto, Minister of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions.

Obi stated that his conversation with Agung Laksono provided valuable insights into Indonesia’s governance strategies under former Presidents Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Joko Widodo, particularly in planning, execution, and measurable development in critical sectors.

He also noted that during his meeting with Jusuf Kalla, Indonesia’s only Vice President to have served under two different presidents, the discussions revolved around focused commitment and decisive leadership as key drivers of multi-sectoral development.

Similarly, Obi’s engagement with Yandri Susanto focused on Indonesia’s structured rural development strategy, which categorizes villages from underdeveloped to self-sufficient, ensuring targeted improvements in education, healthcare, and small businesses.

Drawing from Indonesia’s model, Obi stressed that Nigeria could achieve inclusive and sustainable growth by implementing data-driven policies, industrialization, and economic diversification.

By adopting structured, data-driven policies, with political will and strategic execution, Nigeria can unlock its full potential and ensure no region is left behind,” he said.

I suggest Peter Obi visits Japan in order to learn one thing which he will implement as president: How to ensure that Nigeria has about 25 multinational giants listed on the Fortune 500 list of world largest companies.

America has about 140 companies on the list while China has about 130. Japan has about 45. These multinational giants will have a direct impact in of reducing poverty and unemployment in Nigeria. They will also improve infrastructure and power supply.
