A 200-level male student of the University of Ilorin, UNILORIN, Kwara State, has reportedly committed suicide over economic hardship.

DAILY POST gathered that the deceased, whose identity was yet-to-be known, was from the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences.

It was further learned that the student was on the cumulative aggregate of 4.5 academic standing at the Department of Mass Communication before his unfortunate death.

The incident occurred at his private residence located at Oke-Odo axis of Tanke community, Ilorin, the state capital.

Sources in the university community, who spoke to newsmen, said that the deceased committed suicide due to financial challenges facing him.

It was also learnt that the deceased lost his father a few years ago, while his mother, a retired school teacher, had taken over financial responsibility for his academic since.

The deceased’s financial crisis reportedly started when he resumed school last year.

The development is said to have made his colleagues to raise some funds to pay his tuition fees and buy foodstuffs for him.

However, it was gathered that the deceased decided to take a poisonous substance last weekend, just after his roommate had left for lectures, leaving a note which stated his inability to cope with his financial situation.

His roommate was said to have raised the alarm on the incident when they returned from lectures.

A senior istrative officer in the school management, who sought anonymity on the development, confirmed the incident to journalists in Ilorin on Tuesday.

He described the incident as shocking, saying that the development had thrown the university into a mourning mood.

So sad!

If there wasn't reckless spending and highest degree of corruption during he time of President Jonathan, i doubt if things would have gotten this bad the way it is. Nothing was set in place for the betterment of the common man.

Buhari tried his best and set the pace for development in the country. Tinubu by the grace of God will lead us into that promised land. He has started excellently well.

From another angle: Yoruba people will rather commit suicide or jump headlong into Third Mainland bridge than protest against BAT economic hardship

Things are hard really. You'll get to a point and all you have is hopelessness. Imagine the struggle of a poor man in this country. May God sustain the rest and be a pillar of hope to them

But for no reason should a man take his own life

The thought of it is awkward. God bless every soul that needed help at this time. Amen

This story doesn't make sense one bit! With NELFUND, no student is suppose to cry hardship.
He didn't commit suicide because of hardship but because of something else. Most likely a woman

Why did he give up without a fight?

As a student there are a whole lot of things he could have done to himself in school.

Education is not about reading and ing exams, it also include thinking outside the box to solve problems.

This is so sad ! Just look at what is going on in Nigeria, yet some fools are saying transformation is going on. All Nigeria needs now is a total revolution, make all these leaders feel the pain the citizens have been feeling. They should be made to loose all they have and cherish much and taken out of power by force like some other countries have done and experienced, no matter their political party affiliation, that's the only way out.. Just look at .....RIP to the guy

Some woke up to no hope of what to eat. Starting a day with no assurance of having food on your table. A country where basic needs have become a luxury. Food of all things are not available to many. This is terrible but the government people doesn't see it as such.

Are you retarded? Which ethnicity participated the most in the last year protests against the FG in the south and whose people criticized the FG the most?

You guys are just pathological liars. Despite knowing that Tinubu is just a scammer, u are still saying this. Tell me one thing the masses have gained since he became the president. You are lost.
